Can we win the title next season?

Featured Replies

In my opinion, i really think we can. We do not need strengthening a whole lot, but i certainly believe we will make a profit in the summer and bring in 2 (at least) big name players to sure us up, and then hopefully a couple of youngsters such as RLC, Ake, Chalobah, Baker and Bamford will get a good few chances in the first team.

A lot of the media and opposition fans talking about Arsenal, City and Utd strengthening etc, etc, but they forget how solid we've been most of this season and that we only need a small handful of players to really give us that extra edge in retaining the title again.

Last season we were 2-3 players short of really challenging; this season we are on course to win it with a nice points cushion, so there seems to be a trend of us going from relatively strong, to strong, to very strong, and i believe next season we will be extremely strong and tough to beat, both in the ECL and the EPL. Also, Jose isn't a coach who is going to hand the title over to our rivals unlike pellegrini, wenger and rodgers.

Only a few weeks ago you wanted Jose sacked and Carlo brought back, now your awarding us the title before the points are in the bag... Deary Me

In the heat of the moment and after poor results things are said. I always thought that jose would need to win the title this season for his job to be 100% safe. 2 seasons without a trophy would not have looked good to Roman.

I do think we have probaly the best manager around right now, but sometimes his style can be frustrating when we don't see positive results and rotation to the squad over a long, hard season.

I would say the title is in the bag and if we lost the title now, i think his job a coach here would be very unsafe. I don't see how we lose the title now we're 10 points clear. We have two more home games against teams in the lower half of the table whom we should get at least 6 points from, and i think we get 3 points from Arsenal.

United will be challenging really hard. I do hope that van Gaal falls out with some of his players, which would't be all to unusual for him. But I guess that they're going to bring some world class players next season in. So it will be between us and United. Arsenal do have the quality to challenge, but I feel that they'll fail to do so, again.

If United go out and spend uncontrollably like they did this season, and it looks like they will, it will be very hard.

But also, Chelsea have a lot of room for improvement. 1 or 2 big signings, some added depth from the academy and we're set.

If right now id have to predict next seasons winner, it would be Chelsea.

It was half time during he Hull match, which was even more ridicules because its like holding Jose responsible for the back pass from Ivan to TBO Maybe something to consider in the next heat of the moment is some of things you wrote above, and could we have achieved what we have this season with many other managers around. Carlo, love him as we did was a far less able manager when it came to the league.

On next season, if we win the league, as stated in the following are rivals thread, I think Arsenal and united are closer then the table show's. Both are need of a decent center back or two. City need a better manager. And liverpool are f**ked

Would have preferred 'Can we win the title next season?'.

If this was the question I would say that we are in with a good chance.  Arsenal/United are on a roll - will be interesting to see if that survives the summer break - not always the case that a team that finishes fast comes out fast again.

As a wish list to help I'd like to see us find a world-class replacement for Terry and similar for Costa when he is injured (looking more an more that that is the price we have to pay for having his obvious talents on board).

Somehow the Oscar enigma needs addressing - he is very on/off but on their day when we play Hazard/Oscar/Willian and they are on song they are electric.  Ooops - almost forgot; we are a boring team!  :laugh2:

I think the really big question is how do we compete with Europe's Big Three.  The reliance on a relatively small squad hampers us when firing on multiple fronts - although to be fair we have nailed the League' Cup (I'm old!) and prob' the Prem' and didn't lose a match at all in Europe.  Still feel we need some more strength in depth in some key positions.

The honeymoon will be over come August, Van Gal will have to win silverware next season, the pressure on manyoo next season will be immense.

Yep, but we need some shrewd signings for this. Our squad too short imo, and we've been struggling since February although we are very fortunate to get results going in our way like our Rivals slipping up and us getting late winners despite playing shag for most parts of game. This won't happen next season.

We need a quality imposing Central midfielder to cover and accompany Cesc and Matic. A good attacking midfielder to complimentary Willian and Oscar.

A good defender to push for starting XI. And a backup GK. I think then we're done to challenge/retain the title for next season.

Our squad still is very much capable of challenging the title, but if we are to compete in 3 other comps like FA, CL, COC it isn't that deep imo.

And our form can very well stutter again this time of next season and our rivals can actually pounce on it.

Not to tempt fate, but I think with a couple of key additions we could win the title next year...

I can see us signing 2 of these players:

Pogba

Reus

Varane

Schneiderlin

Koke

Bale

I must confess I wouldn't say no to any of them, I think Bale and Reus are probably the least likely, maybe not Reus now Klopp is going.

If we replaced Mikel and/or Ramires with a quality CM like Koke and brought in a world class attacking player like Reus or Bale then we'd be set.

i wouldnt want reus. too injury prone

Struggle for points since Feb? if we do that next season, can see us walk the league again.

We collected from the 7th Feb up to yesterday 23 points out of 27,

if we replicate that struggle through out the season we would have 92 points out of 36 games.

If Costa and hazard stay fit ..then 110% we will win it again.....my first post..:)
