Why are Chelsea fans so obsessed with Gerrard and his slip?

Featured Replies

I don't get the whole Liverpool's greatest player thing. I know it's been a while but have they forgot the amount of quality they once had? I think the Gerrard love is a way to celebrate something in the face of becoming a second rate big club over the last 25 years.

No they lost the title losing to us, they could have beat Palace and they still would have lost the title on goal difference.

What the hell are you on about? The point I made is Gerrard has made more high profile mistakes than other players and it's very much ingrained into people's minds. I swear you just love picking fights out of anything. Maybe read my post properly next time.

You're right about the Palace point, but I disagree with the rest. Seemingly acknowledging just the mistakes is an unfair way to judge any player.

Watching their game now. Sky sports tounge so far up Gerard's a*^e it's unbelievable

That's why I prefer to watch an episode of 'Castle' I have seen at least 3 times already :-) I just can't take any more Stevie Me crap, when even on my Dutch tv guide app the match was announced as his final home match. FFS...

Ha ha, sky have brought back player can especially for it....

Palace fans singing 3-0 and you f**ked it up, so disrespectful, a disgrace etc....

To be fair I love a bit of player cam!

If those mistakes are remembered by General football fans then yes they do define that player to some degree. I am not saying by any stretch that he wasn't a top player because of these moments but the stigma of these will always surround him, that's a fact.

So JT is defined by Moscow? See I'd disagree with that and suggest the person saying that knew nothing about football.

Phil Thompson was crying on sky....crying becauseca footballer is saving a club....actual tears on live TV. He's a grown man.

Oh how sensitive... Did he get a drippy nose?

I've seen many grown men cry at football matches.

Reading your posts makes me realise how far Cumbria is from SW6.

Go f**k yourself you tedious clean shirt c**t.

You've not understood my post then. When the Utd players retired did you make a point of posting something negative about them, or did you just let them have their moment in silence ? That is the difference here.

Things were different, we didn't have the media shoving it in our faces every day. It's hard to not say anything negative when things go this over the top.

It will always be remembered and will be a certain stigma to him. However Chelsea and JT came back from that and won more including the CL, eclipsing something goes along way in it been forgotten to history. Gerrard's slip is probably the most memorable thing that has happened at the back end of his Liverpool career so yes people will always remember this more and the fact they sing a song about it will forever be sung when he's around. Gerrard will be remembered mostly for Istanbul and the slip.

He got there a long time ago.

With JT people point to Moscow, and what else? You could make a highlight reel of Gerrard's gaffes, set to the Benny Hill music. Can't think of another player as hyped up as him who has made so many high profile and costly c*ck ups.

JT didn't though. He got himself sent off in the semis.

That's the point though. He's a great player who isn't defined by his errors.
