Why are Chelsea fans so obsessed with Gerrard and his slip?

Gerrard and his club get rammed down our throats by their many media shills on such a regular basis, it's hardly a surprise when everyone revels in it when it blows up in their faces. It wasn't just Chelsea fans who loved the slip, the entire football world outside of Anfield spontaneously collapsed in fits of laughter. It happened again after the Palace game. Football fans up and down the country have been belting out the Demba Ba song.

You missed the results/ scores update:

Updates on five Premier League matches on a crucial day at the bottom of the table, before Steven Gerrard's Anfield farewell.

That's just taking the piss.

EDIT: Not that the eight articles you posted aren't.

How many times has saint gerrard f**ked it up for his team mates pool/england by doing a brain fart pass/foul...that guy has screwed it up untold times...the lummox!

The best players in the world make mistakes.

not crucial ones in games where the team lost because of it....the guys done it untold times...the lummox!

Zidane?

Some players slip in Champions League finals. Doesn't mean they aren't some of the best players ever. I remember everyone doing the Seaman back in the day... Still a great keeper.

They do but the mistakes he's made have been hugely influential or highly memorable and it's not that often that happens so often to one player

- Euro 2004 poor pass back led to France scoring a late pen and betting England

- League Cup Final Gerrard own goal makes it 1-1 allowing eventual winners Chelsea back into the game*

- Prem 05/06 pass back to Henry, late goal and winner for Arsenal

- Prem 09/10 pass back to Drogba completely destroys Liverpool's top four hopes and helps Chelsea go on to win the Premier League*

- Prem 13/14 his slip let's Demba Ba score the goal that pretty much destroys Liverpool's title challenge*

- To many sending offs to count

Have I missed any?

Not all of those are massively remembered but three* of them are really well remembered

Gerrard this, Gerrard that. I don't remember Scholes, Neville or even Giggs ( somebody who got a lot of praise from the media ) getting this much praise when they retired and they achieved far more in their careers than Gerrard could ever dream of.

He's been a good player, a very good one, but the media constantly telling us how amazing he supposedly is is so annoying. It's been going on for years and it's tedious. The way people talk about him is sick. He's a monotonous, boring human being, not a god.

Don't like Gerrard as a person, but think he is a Premier League great.

Pity some on this forum can't be magnanimous just for a day.

"It's not vitriol in my case. It's trying to put things into perspective, given the grotesque media distortion of reality through Scouse-tinted spectacles. Yes, he's had a great career, but he's being portrayed as some Messianic superman, which is farcical. There are plenty of better players than him who haven't had a fraction of the glorification being given to Gerrard."

I think some elements of the media have gone that way, others have been fairer.

I think you'll find they have ALL gone that way ?????

They lost the title at palace if I'm being honest.

How many JT errors can you remember? What about Drogba? Judging a man by the mistakes he made really is a slightly unsavoury way to live one's life isn't it? Fact is big players often put themselves in positions where failure is a possibility. Bringing them up is fun to a one but to them ignore the successes is myopic.

They didn't lose it at Palace, before the Chelsea game it was in their hands, after that game they had to rely on turning GD around.

People have said he has been a great player, what else needs to be said ? I don't need to go over the top and kiss his ass like the media have. I didn't do it for United's players when they retired so why should i have to do the same for Gerrard ?

Update: Now you can enjoy live coverage of Gerrard's Anfield Farewell - the front page is already plastered with pictures of it. And you can also predict the scoreline of Gerrard's Anfield Farewell. Apparently Crystal Palace are playing today as well.

I give about as much respect for their legends as they do ours.

You've not understood my post then. When the Utd players retired did you make a point of posting something negative about them, or did you just let them have their moment in silence ? That is the difference here.

They lost the title at palace if I'm being honest.

No they lost the title losing to us, they could have beat Palace and they still would have lost the title on goal difference.

What the hell are you on about? The point I made is Gerrard has made more high profile mistakes than other players and it's very much ingrained into people's minds. I swear you just love picking fights out of anything. Maybe read my post properly next time.

I don't think even Alex Ferguson got this much, and he spent far longer and won far more things at the top.
