I hate a great deal of many players but it never changes my opinion of them.

 

Gerrard is and always has been overrated, not saying he wasn't a good player because he was but he has always been put in the same bracket as the likes of Xavi and Scholes when he has been nowhere near those. He is the most overrated technical player you'll find, he never even matched the same intelligence on the pitch to be shared in that bracket. 

 

Also Lampard is and always has been better.

mediocre player at a primitive club that was last seen nearly 30 years ago who just so happen have the most disgusting and filthy fan base in the country

I enjoyed the Gerrard song but was also happy to applaud him when he was substituted. That was one of the highlights of the PL this year - Chelsea fans showing their class and appreciation (of all those mistakes!).

Good player - that's all. Untied fans would argue Scholes was a better player, I would agree with them. We would argue Lampard is better, I would agree wiith us. 

 

Personally think that Alonso was a much more effective player for liverpool that Gerrard.  He's a great athlete. And has a decent skill set but f**k me how often is that man out of position. How often is he buying in to his own hype trying to hit the hollywood ball time and time again even if it's not on. If gerrard had moved to united as a youngster when fergi was interested he would have been a far better player because he would have learn't about playing as part of a team, playing your role within that team.  

 

I'd have also prefered Kean, or Patrik Viera in my center mid if pushed, although appricate that both are more defensive minded. I think in general he is probably rated about 20% better then he actually is because he plays for liverpool

That Pirlo quote is bollocks.

He said nothing about Gerrard, he did say though..'The only great England midfielder during my career was Scholes, He had elegance in him, the others were pretenders'

Well, I don't really care what Pirlo said or didn't say about him, just that Milan tried to sign him. And unless all these quotes are made up, they did.

Seen this mentioned before. I apologise for not responding to every point but I do try. If I've got 83 notifications though I may miss the odd one.

Getting back to the point, Jose's comments do carry a lot of weight and I think the majority of criticism of Gerrard is based on tribalism. The thing is that most football fans seem to be able to put the tribalism to one side and at least recognise the players talent.

I've not said he's not a decent player, but the reaction to him retiring is beyond all proportion!

 

We shall see how Sky/BBC handle it when JT retires, but I won't be holding my breath.

At the height of he's playing power SG was a top player fact is he hasn't played well in years as age catches up with every player they went close last year but I don't think he done anything that major except score all the penalties they got which was a lot. He was a top player faded a lot as he got older and the media attention he's getting is OTT. The reason he's getting so much hype is because he's playing with LFC. Giggs has won countless throphys has stayed at the same club all he's life and did not get nowhere near the attention SG has been getting. I don't blame LFC or SG they can celebrate the player what ever way they want but the coverage from the media is disgusting .

I think he represents what a lot of us want to see. One of our own come through. There are very few players who come through their hometown clubs, captain them and lead them to the top of European football.

I think that's why he's got so much attention.

I think it would be amazingly poetic if Ruben Loftus-Cheek could have a similar career having made his debut against Liverpool.

Yet ask if Paul Scholes was a great player and I'd expect a majority to acknowledge that he was.

 

Maybe some people just don't rate Gerrard as highly as you do and aren't interested in joining in the w*nkfest that surrounds him. I don't know why you find that so hard to accept.
