You know all this Steven Gerrard overhyped palava got me thinking, how boring would football be without having enemies and rivals?

Although we have moments where our enemies/rivals get one over on us how amazing is it when it doesn't go well for them or we get the better of them?

I mean I always say I'd love to see Arsenal relegated but I probably wouldn't in all honesty as the game would not be the same without that rival that I truly detest.

So we all may laugh at Liverpool's demise but would we really not want them in the league? Will the rivalry be the same now Stevie Me has gone? I truly don't think the rivalry with Man Utd is what it was before when Ferguson was there.

liverpool.man utd,arsenal,spurs,man city,west ham....all to go bust for me....nighty night everyone.

I mean just looking at your list Man City are on there I doubt they would have been a decade ago but that's what's good about football new rivals pop up via different ways, i.e. A bad tempered moment or game, a rise in power etc. But that still wouldn't be enough would it? Which is why we also need to keep the rivalries going. Your post sums it up perfectly tbh.

Do you feel the league is any lesser since a big rival of ours (Leeds) got relegated?

I don't.

Not necessarily but that's one rival, I'm talking about losing more than than one and in this case Liverpool losing Gerrard kind of makes our rivalry not the same like when United lost Fergie.

Without our rivals PL won't be the same. There's always a big competition between us and our rivals, it changes the football and the feeling while watching. I won't lie, I want Arsenal to be relegated but on other side it's always fun to see Jose making it and winning them, same to other teams.

Bumped into some Leeds fans on the way home from the United game. Didn't get slapped, gobbed on or abused. I miss that rivalry.

Although every time I miss them I remind myself that they'd be insufferable arseholes in the premier league.

The thing with United, is that they and their fans have recognised their recent decline openly, that without Ferguson, their no longer the force that they were, unlike Liverpool who haven't won anything of note for a decade. Same goes for Arsenal, whilst they've got their best team for a while, they haven't won anything that makes us sit up and take notice of them since 2003. One FA cup win against Hull (which they nearly choked) means nothing, they've yet to show they can turn up when theres any kind of pressure (see Monaco). Hate both those 2 with a passion.

If you lived in Leeds you'd see that they're still the same sh*tty idiots they've always been.

It's funny I used to live about 15 minutes walk from Elland Road so went to a few of their matches back in 2010, they sing about us and United yet they don't sing about any of their own leagues teams. It's kind of sad how they really cling on to the past days. They're the same as Liverpool in many ways but without the past success, they're just bitter c**ts.

I had to laugh at the desperation of the Gooners fans last year, trying to give us sh*t after winning an FA Cup because we had a trophyless season even thought they'd have a decade of trophyless seasons.

Not even that, aside from the Man City game this year, I can't think of one other big game, when their backs were against the wall with a lot on the line and they battered out a result. Wouldn't at all be surprised if they lose to Villa if Benteke turns up. Last year we smashed them 6-0, beat City twice and saved football by winning at Anfield, who we also beat twice.

the only club I feel a real deep rivalry with is Liverpool but that's a personal thing because I spend a lot of time in the company of Liverpool fans (I need to change my social life, I really do)

so I've suffered the ghost goal and other slights and I've delighted in the Gerrard own goal; 4-1 at Anfield (which I watched amongst the Liverpool crowd) and a very satisfying run of being better than them in every way

what's adds to it is my Liverpool supporting friends cannot abide us; that just makes it all the more enjoyable

so you are spot on Bobby without rivals the game would be worth half of what it is, let's hope that never changes

I seriously hope they do lose the cup final.

Tbh thinking back to last season if a team was to have a trophyless season beating Arsenal 6-0, United 3-1, Spurs 4-0 and doing the double over City/Arsenal was about as perfect as a trophyless season.

It's difficult. I see Spurs and Arse as our main rivals as it's a London grudge thing and it's not just based on competing for titles against them, nor is it pure hatred as at the end of the day I didn't mind spurs having that CL run, nor do I care that Arsenal will win the FA cup, it's more their fans than the clubs. Liverpool are a different kind of rival because it is more based on hatred as their fans and club are just.... you know. Man U are the only rival that I both hate and respect, they are the biggest club in the league you can't deny that. I don't regard City as a rival. I just don't care about them, they could win 5 titles in a row and they'd still just be the second team in Manchester. Plus it's not like they have many fans to hate lol. Actually they helped stop Pool from winning the league so that's basically a friendship declaration.

Rivalries are the foundation of football and sport in general, but every time one rival leaves another one will take their place.

For example, it's only a matter of time until the FSW comes back to England, and Pep may come at some point soon too. They can more than make up for the loss of Slippy and Rio.

Strangely. I dont look at Man C as being rivals.....With all their new found bigness in ground and players , i still see em as a fairly good prem team...Rivals for next season ....Football wise there will only be Arsenal and Man U...........Football and non footy. There is and always should be only one deep rival....You know it....SPUDS

Personally I would love to see Liverpool dragged into a relegation dog fight but would expect to see some Everton V Wimbledon goal keeping which meant they stayed up in the run in . The Liverpool brand is to big for them not to be in the premier league.

Palace/QPR can just do one .....sh*t grounds , sh*t fans , sh*t clubs .......

Finishing higher than Utd Le Arse and Rottenham to win the league always has more kudos to me .

And Rottenham can continue to be the most hated club in the league for as long as they want ...........they really don't get it how much everyone hates them the only club pretty much every other fans feels the same about . We hate them , Le Arse , West Ham , Southampton ............the list is endless

Chelsea vs Leeds matches have an extra edge you don't get with games against Burnley or Wigan. I'd like to see them back in the PL. Though as soon as they were, I'd remember why I wanted them relegated in the first place!

I think that's the problem lol

Would never want any of our rivals to go bust - too extreme. I'd think twice about relegation too.

I prefer a rivals demise and misfortune to remain in plain sight for us.

For example, Liverpool, Arsenal and Spurs have become slight laughing stock now, all three in our shadow in football terms and they BLOODY HATE IT. I like them on the fringes of success, but failing, so we are able to run their noses in it when we succeed.

If teams were relegated and not to return, then they become forgotten about - the afore mentioned Leeds are a great example.

In the same way that without the odd agonising loss, winning constantly would lose its magic and edge, without rivals, football as a game would lose its edge.

No nor do i....! In fact the league is a better place. Wise/Poyet - Legends.
