Can’t believe she was Kevin’s mother from Home Alone 1+2, barely recognised her. Her lilting accent had me in hysterics most of the time, bebehhhh Yeah her voice is ridiculous and hilarious. I`m halfway through season 4 which so far has possibly been my favourite. The cast has a few surprises, namely the dad and son are real life dad and son.

August 20, 20205 yr I’ve been really enjoying Escape At Dannemora lately. You could think of it as Prison Break for grown ups. It has a great cast and most of the episodes seem to be directed by Ben Stiller, who I only know from Zoolander and Tropic Thunder. This is nothing like either of those.
August 31, 20205 yr Phoenix Rising - documentary on Netflix about the Paralympics based mainly around London 2012
September 1, 20205 yr We are almost finished with the Office, we have I think less than 10 episodes left. After that we are likely going to move onto either Umbrella Academy Season 2 or The Rain Season 3. I am more excited about Umbrella Academy and I think my wife is too. The rain will probably come after that. Millie Bobby Brown is going to be in some Enola Holmes series on Netflix coming out later this month. I'm interested in seeing that. The Crown season 4 drops in November. So it looks like my wife and I are booked in terms of stuff to watch through November with maybe a possible lull in there in late October/November were we will have to figure out something to watch until the Crown drops. In terms of what I watch on my own, I binged watched Cobra Kai while my wife was working this weekend. I also watched one episode of Luther on recommendations I got on here. Too early to judge IMO if I will like the series or not so I'm going to give it a few more episodes. Edited September 1, 20205 yr by Valpo

September 8, 20205 yr We had a 3 day weekend here and my wife and I blew through Umbrella Academy and The Rain. I found out that the Danish have a cuss word that sounds exactly like the English cuss word.
September 8, 20205 yr I'm up late most nights and found the X-files showing on Paramount. Seen most yet not all so enjoying this while I can. Some are neat some are not. Edited September 8, 20205 yr by strider6004

September 9, 20205 yr @Stretford Ender What did you think of the X-file movies? I liked both of them though the second came in for a lot flack not sure if this was because of the limited budget preventing a blockbuster like the first or whether they just thought the story was weak.

I enjoyed the second though of course it was not about the Alien theme. Reading up on it, it was thought to be a mistake to release it so close to the Dark Knight. I thought the story was good as was seeing the actors in different roles later in their lives as they then uncover the cause of deaths which interestingly was a recent theme emerging out of some of the conflicts and what was happening to prisoners. The Billy Connolly character too was interesting and a little bizarre. Re the first one, it was released in '98 and as you know partly set in Antartica which is known to have a magnetic anomaly indicative of something like metals under the ice. So a general mystery. Then in 1999 NZ radio ham amateurs picked up details of a 'fight on the ice' and a US plane was flown there during winter and evacuated some staff that were taken to a hospital in Christchurch and as the media hordes descended a security blanket was constructed and then the media were told the patients had been moved, destination unknown. I was living there at the time so it was a strange event, just looked for it and found these articles referring to an illness by a company working for Raytheon. I know Raytheon as being a US military contractor. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1312258/Pilots-land-Antarctic-ice-runway-rare-winter-rescue-mission-save-sick-worker.html https://www.theguardian.com/world/2010/sep/14/antarctic-rescue-flight Still don't know what happened here yet it must have done wonders for the X-files movie as large parts were set in Antarctica! I suspect the 'fight on the ice' was misheard and might been 'flight' rather than 'fight'.
September 9, 20205 yr You were living in Antarctica or NZ? The former has all kinds of stories attached to it dating back hundreds of years, if not more including the theory that the Piri Reis map showed part of the coastline not covered in ice.

NZ and yes familiar with the Piri Reis map. Have you heard about that alleged military expedition in 1946 to Antarctica supposedly to flush out a Nazi base?

Last two nights the X-files was put back to later so last night watched the ordinary Red Heat with Arnie as a Russian cop in Chicago trying to catch a Russian criminal. Struck me it was unlikely we would see a film made today with a decent Russian character. That was made when Gorbachev was in power.

Why do police in Russia walk around in threes? One can read, one can write, and the other keeps his eye on the two intellectuals.
September 27, 20205 yr I've just watched or should I say endured the first episode of Ratched. Here's something I've never complained about before but the incidental music is deafening it's like having an orchestra in your front room. Everything is so loud from the main character's clothes to a doctor's office which I can only presume as it's a mental hospital is supposed to be soothing for the patient is not for the viewer it's migraine inducing. It comes across like a camp version of Silence of the Lambs and in the film she was cold and unsympathetic and in this she's almost a criminal mastermind who regardless of the circumstances would be plotting major heists rather than working in a mental hospital.
September 28, 20205 yr Have loved the Mortimer & Whitehouse fishing series on BBC. Only found out about it towards the end of series 2, so watched rest on catch-up and have just watched series 3 - final episode was last night. Never really been into fishing but have always liked the idea. But the programme is not really about the fishing. More about two funny blokes, getting on in years, both of whom have had health issues and are clearly very fond of one another and every episode is just a great 30 minutes which leaves you feeling a lot better about the world having watched it.

I'm a fan as well. The actual fishing is almost irrelevant, I just love hearing them take the piss out of each other.

Our telly is probably a bit old now, but it has something called a "volume" button on the remote. Oddly, it can allow you to make the sounds coming out of the TV both louder AND quieter on the same button. A bit like Beckham's thermos flask.
