Predicting the 2015/16 league table

Featured Replies

Just off the top of my head, a lottery you only have to choose 7 numbers (I think) of which their are 50 possible options.  For the table its 20 positions with 20 options.  Either way, the odds are astronomical but I actually think the lottery is easier even though you have a better idea of whose where in the table.

anyways the value is 20!, if memory of statistical combinations and permutations are correct, which is 20x19x18x17x16x15x13x12x11x10x9x8x7x6x5x4x3x2x1= # of variations.... which is a rather large freaking number!

Spurs, Arsenal and Liverpool in a perfect world. Though the season after would be a tad boring.

wouldn't you keep the spuds for the entertainment value alone?

Nothing is a dead cert I'll agree, but the probability is the top 4 will be same as last season and the bookies odds will reflect this.

Even if you take the top and bottom 5s as given there are 5!*10!*5! = 52254720000 possibilites.

You have much better chances with lottery. 6 from 49 (which I think Lotto is in the UK) is 1/13983815 odds.

not if they turn us over at the Lane like last season!

please this is the spuds we're talking about. That was a freak occurrence

Surprised no one has placed City as winners. Seems over the summer they have become the unfashionable team to predict as champions. I think it will be between us and them. I fear that if we have trouble scoring (As preseason may have partly suggest) we could be in danger of possibly 3rd.

Just an honest opinion, all depends on Diego... if fit for the vast majority of the season 2nd perhaps... but if we have to rely on Remy/Falcao we're f**ked. If Liverpool's new players gel I don't think it's inconceivable that we could actually finish 5th tbh.

I'm open to your views totally and can see it happening. I just know people sometimes have blue tinted spectacles when they come to predictions sometimes.

Assuming the top 4 is fixed in any order, and the next 2 are Liverpool and Tottenham, with Everton, Southampton, Swansea, Palace, Stoke and Newcastle taking the next 6 spots, this is the number we can expect.

4! * 2! * 6! * 8! which is 1.4 billion possibilities. That is 57 billion times more likely than the uninformed odds. Now this is conservative. If we assume that the bottom 4 is also fixed, then the number of possibilities becomes just 20 million possibilies, around 100 times better than the previous odds. If 20 million people play around with the possibilities in a systematic manner, they set to make a likely loss of 10 million pounds :) unfortunately that level of mass scheming cannot happen. The number of possibilities can be reduced even further with some thought.
