Predicting the 2015/16 league table

Featured Replies

As some of you may have heard William Hill are offering an alleged £50 million to anyone who can correctly predict the entire league table this coming season. Thought it'd be a good idea to have some guesses ourselves or just kill some time till the season starts: (ps I know there's a similar thread but it doesn't deal with the whole table)

1) Chelsea

2) Arsenal

3) United

4) City

5) Spurs

6) Liverpool

7) Southhampton

8)Swansea

9) Stoke

10) Everton

11) West Ham

12) Palace

13) Watford

14) Villa

15) West Brom

16) Leicester

17) Newcastle

18) Bournemouth

19) Sunderland

20) Norwich.

Feel free to make your guesses guys and girls. I'll take a cut if anyone does win using my prediction

Probably well worth a punt if the £50 million thing is true. I just can't see them actually paying that out

£50M for £2 - that can't be right?

Difficult yes but not as difficult as correctly predicting week's results for which the prize is only one million and also a lot easir than picking the lottery numbers.

1) United

2) Chelsea

3) Arsenal

4) City

5) Liverpool

6) Southampton

7) Spuds

8) Palace

9) Everton

10) West Ham

11) Stoke

12) Swansea

13) West Brom

14) Villa

15) Newcastle

16) Leicester

17) Watford

18) Bournemouth

19) Sunderland

20) Norwich.

I've put this on, I was thinking as I done it but can't get my head around it, can any maths whizz clarify for me...

What is the maximum number of possible combinations for a league with 20 teams? Surely it would cost less to do that than 50m so you'd end up making a profit from it, if you could be bothered sitting doing that of course.

Apparently there's an insane number or posisibilties so William hill obviously seem to be banking on no one getting it. There's 2432902008176640000 combinations according to several people. The maths behind that seems solid to me

Sorry but it just can't be right.

There maybe an insane number of possibilities but it's not like the lottery with random numbers. We all know who the top 4 are likely to be and who are going to be in the bottom 5 or 6. Someone will get this, especially if you can have as many goes as you want so there is no way they will put out a £50M prize.

The first guess is 1/20, the 2nd, 1/19, and on and on and on. 1/1x2x3x4x5x6x7x8x9x10x11x12x13x14x15x16x17x18x19x20

1/ 2,432,902,008,176,640,000

Chances: 1 in two quintillion, four hundred thirty two quadrillion, nine hundred two trillion, eight billion, one hundred seventy six million, six hundred forty thousand.

But it's not, as you have to factor in weighting etc so it's a lot easier than that. Believe me, it would be easier to predict the table standings than select 6 lottery numbers.

Really?

I personally think we will win the league but it will be so so close this year.

i also think City will come second, Arsenal 3rd. All within 3 points.

Relegation. Bottom - Watford, 19th - Bournemouth & 18th Leicester or West Ham

Based on transfers so far yes that’s what I expect sadly.

It will be close no matter what place the top 4 finish in I think.

If we manage to bring in a few players who will improve our first 11 then my mind would change but for now that’s what I think.

I appreciate other clubs have bought and should be improved but i think we can sneak it. What would be nice if we bought another striker (Costa could be missing quite a bit) at least. Maybe Stones as well for defense. Zouma can play with Matic as DM. Then i would feel a little more at ease.

It's not dead cert who the top 4 will be so it can't be assumed that us arsenal city and United will be there. Footballs a strange game

Which players that utd have signed will close that 17 point gap?

Nothing is a dead cert I'll agree, but the probability is the top 4 will be same as last season and the bookies odds will reflect this.

Arsenal

Liverpool

Everton

Tottenham

Southampton

Swansea

Crystal palace

Stoke

Newcastle

Positions 6th - 20th is a lottery almost.

Precisely. With the amount of sh*te in the league and the unreliable teams, Everton, villa and Newcastle I'm looking at you, it's actually really hard to predict
