before anyone slags me off Terry is the best there has ever been in the prem and a great captain

looking at our  team shape and the players i have come to the conclusion  that we have no choice

but to play a defensive game as we lack the pace in our defence to play a high line,

and we can not afford to get our backs to push on as our centerS cannot cover

this is why we have to have the holding midfielders to allow cover in the wide  defensive postions

Perhaps this is why JM is eager to gain the services of stone  to form the fondations of our

team for the next ten years

NEW DEFENCE WITH PACE TO SPARE

Kennedy is a winger!

doh no players  have ever been molded to play in  different position have they ? ok for the sake of a discussion remove Kennedy and put in Dave  or wallace  when time allows but the topic was to discuss why we have no option but to play defensively

PS Kennedy is  a striker

A. It's Kenedy.

B. I believe he's a utility attacking midfielder who can play anywhere across midfield or up front.

C. I don't understand if you are asking a question or posting a statement.

From your post
I can see that what you are suggesting that we have been looking for and acquiring young quick defenders which would suggest that we are looking to play a more attacking style of play with a higher defensive line in the future, and that you think Kenedy an attacking RW would be a great RB I am guessing Dani Alves esque?

I personally don't believe a Dani Alves type defender will work in the BPL and would get caught out on way to many occasions we are already complaining as a fan base that Ivanovic gets caught out to often I think we would lament someone like Dani Alves who thinks he is a winger.

I also wouldn't implement this system for some time even if we get Stones as I believe JT is a much better defender than Stones who is currently full of mistakes. I also think defending in this system can be disastrous if you aren't use to it and you aren't suited to it, just look at Arsenal and how many goals they concede because of their high line and because their full backs are always getting caught out of position and this is a team that have been playing this way for years .

For the future I think we have been making good positive strides the signings of Baba and Zouma and that they could do well in a high line with attacking wing backs, I also feel you need a very good CDM which we have in Matic to provide an Anchor to the midfield and you need workman like midfielders and I see Oscar being able to fill one of these roles.
However I would only want to see this evolution if we took 2-3 season to implement it slowly working it into our play.

And for me in 2 years time we will have a defence that can play in this style, with;

Azpi - Zouma - Cahill/Kalas - Baba
                  Matic
sub Christensen

and if Stones comes he will be in there ahead of Cahill and will probably have taken his place by then.
For me Matic would be the most important player in this system and if he has a bad game we will concede goals but we will have a much more attacking style of football

I also don't think Terry is incapable at playing in a high line as Mertesacker who is slower than Terry is currently playing in a high line. but I think a high line wouldn't suit Terry and our current personnel as Fabregas isn't good enough defensively.

What a charming man you are, mother must be proud. I'm actually from London originally.....nice try though.

As to point C. There is no question mark in either of your previous posts, I ask again, question or statement?

From what we've learned from he last game that even though a great defender,Ivanovic is a goal scoring defender too,and a fan favourite but never a right back.He can't handle a fast winger to save his life,he is a center back.Obviously he was very good at right back for several games and most of them was when he scores and ends up being the hero.Don't get me wrong he is a superb player and a worthy vice captain but not a right back.

Missouri is a good poster on this forum, so for him to be called a 'yank who shoots from the hip' by a new poster seems rather ridiculous.

This; Missouri seems a good guy.

i cant see how  there is a problem saying that a person shoots from the hip  as it means they speak how they find   if people are not able to contribute to a topic

then its better not to comment than  try to aggravate members for there own and friends amusement  perhaps more people would contribute

The difficulty is finding the transition  between winning now and building a winning feam for the next 10 years and more importantly 2016/17

and will the defensive premiership team system   work in the champions league ?

Do you honestly think are current  defence will be playing  for us in 2017 ?

Transition is the balance.  Ideally you want someone who can learn from Terry, but not feel that they should automatically take his spot.

As for our current defence playing in 2017....maybe Dave?  Not sure about Cahill.  Certainly not Terry and Ivan

I was trying to contribute by suggesting what I knew about Kenedy's position. It's not my fault you have to get aggressive with others, as displayed against myself and others in this thread.

You talk about 'little red dots' being used by some as some kind of prestige system to belittle others yet you state you've been a member since 2012 and a support since 1972. Seems a little hypocritical to bring that up unless you are in fact doing the same thing. The fact you called me a 'yank...shooting from the hip etc' made you appear quite ignorant, whether you are or not.

I find it amusing that you are so passive aggressive, as show by starting your original message saying 'before anyone starts' or whatever you said. Obviously used to get people having a negative reaction to what you say. I wonder why?

I agree with your point in this post, 100%. See what happens when you don't start attacking people.

I see you have found the question mark key on your keyboard, this helps to show when you are asking questions.

In regards to question 1. I'm sure there will be times it works and times it won't, seen against Barca, Bayern, etc.

question 2. I think there will be members of the back line still in the team. Azpilicueta and Rahman (if we sign him) will surely be first choice on the flanks. I believe Zouma will be first choice CB by that point and hopefully Stones/Varane (someone of that calibre with them). Maybe Cahill will be 3rd option at center back.

See how much easier things are with the right tone?
