Yehvan Konoplyanka

Featured Replies

I'm basing my view on the two videos below.

He reminds me of Hazard in some ways, he is fast, dribbles well and loves to cut in from the left. He does seem somewhat one-footed though as his left foot lacks that power to put in a good cross. Oh, and his finishing looks pretty bad.

Nevertheless, he looks very dangerous in counterattacks and has this sudden burst of speed to evade most challenges.

Sadly, I don't think he is what we need now as we already have guys like Hazard (if on form) and Willian who can do a better job. He also just joined Sevilla this year after signing a four-year deal and I doubt they would want to negotiate a deal with us.

Looking at the reports on why Jose watched the Ukraine game, it seems to me that he was scouting (if he was really doing that) Yarmolenko. Yarmolenko might actually suit us more in terms of his playing style and physical attributes(umm).

As an Ukranien, I'd say he's good enough to play in that level, but I'd prefer Yarmolenko. Konoplyanka is more Jose player, he would track back and do more defensive work than Yarmolenko. But Yarmolenko is better scorer, has good long shots, good attacking option for every team.

Could be he was looking at the Spanish players rather than the Ukrainians,  Paco Alcacer in particular.  I thinks we are more in need of a striker than attacking mid.

The compilation vids of alcacer are underwhelming to say the least. Just looks like a poacher and that's it. We need a forward who has a great shot from outside the box, can hold up, has good ball control. I can't believe there are so few out there like that.

I saw him in the Europa League a couple of times for Dnipro last season and he seemed like their standout player; I seem to remember him coming off the bench and scoring a tap-in equaliser during that absolutely mental Super Cup game between Sevilla and Barca.

From the little of him I've seen (and from what I remember) he's a decent winger, tends to start on the touchline and cut inside. Probably more of a 'pure' winger than Hazard, although his technique is good and he's fairly pacey.

He could be a good signing, although we're well-stocked in his position and he's also older than Hazard. Although I suppose José could have been scouting more or less anyone, or maybe he just wanted to keep an eye on how the Ukrainian players who are also in the Kiev team were doing.
