Romelu Lukaku

Tottenham, Arsenal, ManU don't. They play open attacking football. Lukaku has more space. I also think PL teams react to us differently than against Everton.

The way we have attacked for some years now we need a player who can hold the ball. Lukaku for me isn't that player. Maybe Conte can change all that to fit Lukaku in but I don't see it.

Funny that you mention those three teams. Of the top ten, they're the only teams he didn't score against last season and they play 'open attacking football'. The general consensus on here is that he can't score against packed defences or top teams. He found the net against Chelsea x 2, Man City, Leicester, Liverpool, Southampton x 2, West Ham x 2 and Stoke x 2. Interesting where people come up with their theories.

^ None of those teams sit deep and pack the penalty box though (with the possible exception of Leicester when defending a lead and Stoke away). You've just named some of the most expansive sides in the division.

They also have a different style of play. Everton ship in goals like they love it. Lukaku and many of the players feeding him play more of a free role just like their FORMER manager saw football.

All in all it is very hard to compare these things but what I have seen Lukaku is not for us at that price anyway.

I like to see a young player with masses of potential and again don't mind him coming here.

In tight spaces he is for some ridiculous reason not very good. He should use his massive frame a lot better. Maybe it comes with age.

I think it would come from a manager who isn't essentially a chimp in a circus outfit playing cymbals. Martinez is a sh*t manager, I reckon with good coaching Lukaku could learn to use his strength a lot more.

Well those numbers debunk the theory that he doesn't score against the good sides. What sides sit back in the box? He scored against almost every team in the PL last season...

Yeah, fair enough. I think a lot of it has to do with age. It will be interesting to see how his development goes under Koeman.

Is that supposed to be an answer? Or did you quote the wrong post ?

Probably should just write him off now hey? Players don't get any better after 23. Just look at Kante and Mahrez. Oh wait.

So rather than answer the question being posed, (which is a legitimate one, when spending £60m should you be investing a lot of development time in the player?) you choose to be snidey, a recurring theme in your posts.

So how long do you guys think he needs development for?

Drogba was what, 26 when he arrived right? And hadn't the best of seasons in his first, Lukaku still has plenty of time to improve his game, i'd say within 2 years he'll be a consistent 20 league goal per season striker

when spending £60m should you be investing a lot of development time in the player?)

On top of him being 'developed' for the past 7(!) years, nearly twice as long as Kantes entire footballing career.

Rooney is a more apt comparison than Drogba, and it didn't take Rooney 7 years to be one of best in the prem. He also didn't make massive drogba level improvements in performance.

But the thing is, Rooney peaked a lot earlier, he was at his best by 23/24, and he's been in a total decline since he was 28.

Try ignoring my posts if they bother you so much. You'll save us both time.

So rather than addressing the question being posed you again resort to another snide reply.

Is there a reason you're such an angry little man?

Rather than ignore you I think I might just continue to mock you from afar.

You're right, lets get Cuadrado back whilst we're at it. Like you said, players can always get better no matter age and he's had a very successful loan in Italy.

Surely the answer to all our problems in attacking mid?

Just because some players do well and develop later, doesn't mean all will. With Lukaku's arrogance i can't see him getting his head down in training to become the best of the best.

From all reports coming out Lukaku is actually doing a ton og extra work in trainig and watches videos of hinself and opponents in his free time. He doesnt strike me as someone who wobt put the work in. He has improved every year since coming to England. I remember when I first saw him play, it looked like he had never kicked a ball in his life. I think Lukaku will peak as a footballer in 2-3 years time

Cuadrado is 28, Lukaku is 23. They're two different numbers. 28 is significantly larger than 23 in terms of development, therefore Cuadrado has a smaller scope for improvement. It may take you some time, but you'll eventually get your head around it.

Ronaldo is arrogant, he seems to be doing OK in getting the best out of himself. I would rather Lukaku back himself in than lack confidence. He has ambition and wants to win trophies. From all reports he's far from complacent with where he's at now.

But as you have so often pointed out, Drogba improved ten fold between 26-28? Please elaborate, you seem to be contradicting yourself.

How is that contradicting myself? The older you get the smaller the chance you're going to improve. Lukaku is a lot younger than Cuadrado so there's more of a chance he will improve. I never said Cuadrado wouldn't or couldn't, but it's less likely considering he's 28.

Careful dropping the age thing mate. You might have to break it down a little more for the simpletons on here.

Well now we've established that 28 is a higher number than 23 we can at least be grateful that this discussion hasn't been a complete waste of time and energy.

you know that game against ireland, he's so dire to watch especially in the 1st half but at the end of the day he scored 2 goals.. is it a case of getting something while not playing well?

lukaku to me seems to fall into a category of counter attacking striker, he doesn't seem suited to link up well with the midfield..

Your superb language use almost thwarted a quip, but here's an alternative.

23 would be higher than 28 if 23 were the number of weetabix stacked alongside 28 rice crispies.

Edit, make that 28 Coco pops as I've just glimpsed Coco's hammer as it were, it's there, at the ready, will he pop his ban hammer cherry?!
