Alessio Romagnoli

Featured Replies

So. This Alessio is young. Is he the kind that you can rely your defense on to.

We are running out of options but Zouma is young and right now I'm sure most of us would have him as first pick at CB.

#CFC are expected to offer between €40m and €50m for #ACMilan 's Alessio Romagnoli http://www.football-italia.net/90288/chelsea-%E2%82%AC40-50m-romagnoli

30% of the capital gain would go to #ASRoma, if Romagnoli is sold. Galliani would be ready to track Musacchio & Badelj (La Repubblica) #CFC

Chelsea offers €45m plus €5m bonus for #ACMilan defender Romagnoli (La Repubblica) #CFC

He pretty much is our number 1 CB, but that injury f**ked him up. If it wasnt for that we'd be in a lot better defensive shape right now

Second bid rejected according to Gazzetta. Main story on their website now..

Cue desperation mode.

Who are all these teams rejecting 45m bids for their defenders?  This is literally astonishing stuff.  This guy is not worth this amount of money...neither is Koulibaly for that matter.

With Alessio Romagnoli the subject of an improved offer from Chelsea, Eurosport Italy's Mattia Fontana answers some key questions on the young defender...

What's his background?

He grew up at AS Roma and he played his first match as left back when he was just 17. The following year, he was used as a replacement player mainly on the flank, even if he is a centre-back. He had a great season on loan at Sampdoria (2014-15) and was sold by AS Roma to AC Milan just because the Giallorossi needed fresh money (€25m in 2015)

How good has he been at Milan?

His first season in Milan wasn’t as great as expected, but he surely wasn’t the problem in the troubled Rossoneri season. He showed great personality and great technique, with a good left foot. He has been compared by many to Alessandro Nesta and, in some way, the comparison is good. He hasn’t got the class of the former Italy and Milan stalwart, but it’s so difficult to find a 19 or 20 year-old centre-back to play regularly in Serie A.

Future prospects?

He is, alongside Daniele Rugani, the best prospect among young Italian centre-backs. I think he can become a world-class player if he finds a good coach (Antonio Conte could be perfect and improve his way of playing out from the back, like he did with Leonardo Bonucci). Most importantly though, he must fully concentrate on being a centre-back, which he is not at the moment. He can make great tackles and, soon after, make a completely wrong decision (he’s 21, after all). An example of this was against Torino, when he forgot to mark Daniele Baselli in their second goal on Sunday.

koulibaly, romagnoli, all sound like they're a mistake waiting to happen, and in the premier league you'll get punished for silly defensive mistakes.

Out of curiosity, have you seen them play much?

Rumours about that we're in negotiations with Access Milan about a loan and maybe a loan and a deal down the road for Pasalic...they claim that the deal is separate from any Romagnoli discussions

Looks like we have upped our bid but I'm hoping it's a bluff so Napoli come crawling back wanting to sell KK.  Alessio doesn't 100% fit the bill of what we are after right now

i haven't no, but from what i hear they still have brain farts. for the fee rumoured we would expect a cb to slot in and play well, not have occasional brain farts. maybe i am asking for too much

What defender doesn't have an occasional brain fart? It's just that more experienced ones normally have them less frequently.

Milan officially rejected our offer and stated that he isn't for sale. The fun continues.

Does this road of ruin eventually lead us to bringing Titus Bramble in as a free agent?  :face_palm:

Who's next.

I am positive the club has this under control though, not...
