Jeremy Toljan

I don't think his offensive output (games to goals contribution) is great for an 'attacking RWB' (if compared to Alves/Conti) but looks a top up and coming FB for me. It's his versatility I'm most impressed by, he may yet still develop into a top RCB for a back 3 and can also cover at LWB. Potential replacement for Ivanovic. Worth a punt for me.

Spurs are apparently looking at him as a replacement for Kyle Walker.

we already have a prospect in RWB position and his name is Aina. if we are to develop a young player i'd rather we develop one of our own. either buy WC player that will significantly improve our squad or not at all. go big or go home

This guy absolutely wrecked England's left hand side in the recent u21 semi-final. Thought he looked extremely classy that day.

On the one hand I'd be happy to sign him because I believe he's on his way to becoming a fantastic right back/wing back, on the other hand it would be disappointing for Aina.

Aina is just 20 so there's still time for him to develop into the player we all hope he will be - Aina didn't even make the Euro U21 squad, on the other hand Toljan has impressed at Euro U21 (Germany U21 play Spain U21 tonight btw) and is starting week in week out for Hoffenheim (who finished 4th this season). Aina imho needs a loan next season.

Aina already declared for Nigeria's national team. Why on earth would he then play for England's U21 after doing that?

Has he? Sorry I wasn't aware of that. As far as I'm concerned if Aina counts as 'foreign' he isn't worth a place in the squad if that's the case?

(edit: Aina still counts as homegrown despite declaring for Nigeria)

He did it months ago. Pretty sure he'd have made the U21 squad if he didn't. But I don't really rate him so I couldn't really be arsed. Don't think he has a future here.

Makes me wonder why he declared for Nigeria - maybe he just isn't that great.

He does have the likes of Clyne and Walker ahead of him in the England set up. Add Trippier now as well. Plus his dad is very connected to Nigeria so it didn't in fact come out of nowhere. Not everybody has to play for England. Iwobi declared for Nigeria too when he could have played for England.

True, but he if stays with us he'd presumably be off to the ACN every couple of years.... I don't think he's that great to be worth the hassle.

At one point we had Drogba, Kalou, Mikel and Essien all going off to the ACN every couple of years and we still survived. Just saying that generally btw. Don't really care for Aina.

Well he had another monster of a game last night...raiding down the right wing and throwing in brilliant crosses after crosses...let's sign him up before BM slap their lauderhausen on him...

It's not a simulation where if you do the development credits you reach the total, you can develop till you're blue in the face if the player starts to show limitations that's all you can do, if a young prospect is better than ours we buy him, makes no difference it's about the best player not which one has been with us longer it's a football club not a lineage of blood, you can't be sentimental I feel you want to be the best I refer you to contes cold decisions there is just no room for sentiment at this level the sooner people come to terms with that the less upset they will get about our youth

hencewhy we should buy WC players instead who will improve us significantly, immediately. prospects, no matter how high the ceiling is, is still just prospect, they won't improve us immediately.

it's not about sentiment toward our academy players, but why spend money on other players that may or may not have higher ceiling, when we can utilize our own player who's maybe not that far off and save the money to buy some other, better players

So with Sandro now seemingly off the table, should we be going for this guy? Very cheap, and the board will love that. Does anyone know much about him?
