How much time will Sarri get?

Featured Replies

We will have a fair idea of whether he's all hype or real substance by the end of the year.  Understandably, he will need time to instill his ideas and techniques into the players, but I think we should start seeing signs of that by January next year.

Until then I will wait patiently.

My only worry is if Morata has no potential at all to improve as a striker.

It will be a slow rebuilding process at the Bridge, and I hope our talisman doesn't turn his back on us just in case we miss out on Champions League football two seasons in a row.

I genuinely worry that Saari will be sacked by early 2019. We needed 3 top players this summer but have managed to get only one. I hope marina gets fired along with.

Never before in the Abramovich era have we went in to a season with such a weak squad compared to our rivals. We would be lucky to end this season in the EL places.

He will get enough time by his high standard. Although the last 2 title winning managers were sacked, they both over stayed a couple of months, Roman gave both time to turn it around, If we add another attacking player before the deadline in addition to the 2 expected ones, that's a pretty good team going into the season.

Can we please give the guy a chance before we start speculating about the timing of his departure.

Yeah, well, welcome to Chelsea Football Club

I don’t think our squad is that weak at all. We won the league with it just two seasons ago, and we’ve added a couple of great players in Rudiger, Jorginho and Christensen since. We still need to sort out the striker issue, but I think our squad has some great strength in it.

?

That was in large part Conte's genius. The team was still quite average compared to the relative strength of our teams in the past.

Christensen is thoroughly average and while Jorginho and Rudiger are good upgrades. We have massively downgraded from Costa to Morata. The team over all is not any stronger than two season back.

While in this time City and Liverpool have strengthened massively. For me, on paper we are the 5th best team this season. Something I haven't seen since 2002-3 season.

You might want to wait for the window to close,  although I wouldn’t have us 5th now anyway. United’s team is pretty trash, and if you want to talk about managerial genius it comes with Jose getting them 2nd last year by grinding results the way only he can. Pogba wants out, Martial wants out, Sanchez hasn’t set the world on fire yet etc etc. I’m not convinced they’ll even make top 4 this year.

Oh and I don’t get this ‘Christensen is thoroughly average’ stuff at all. He’s bloody brilliant, he’s just young and bound to make a few mistakes as he earns his place in the squad.

It took Guardiola a season to get Citeh playing his way. It took Klopp a season-and-a-half to get Liverpool to play his way. Given the disrupted pre-season because of the world cup and the protracted managerial appointment, Sarri starts off on the back foot. Therefore the club need to allow him a season to get things sorted.

We do have good players, but we also have some that look lost in this system given what I saw against Lyon last night. Drinkwater seemed incapable to play a pass and immediately move himself into space to receive the ball back - doesn't he watch Jorginio in training.

If we're twelfth in February will he be given time? I hope so, especially as things should be settling in by then. However, remember how exhausted the Liverpool players were following half-a-season of Klopp's high pressing game. This is Chelsea so anything can happen, but given this appointment surely more patience is required.

On Sunday Supplement last week, one of the journalists said that he had been told that if even if Pep Guardiola had been available this season, Chelsea still would have gone for Sarri - the board/club rate him that highly.

Thought that was quite interesting and perhaps  they are looking for him to really build something.

I’m not being argumentative or anything but... is that really a surprise? Sarri hasn’t previously said he doesn’t get involved in transfers/he coaches etc etc.

Do you think Pep would stand for the sh*t our board pulls in the transfer market? I highly doubt it.

I also dont believe that they know hee-haw about what goes on in the board room and what their thoughts are. I hope you’re right and it means he gets the hacking but sounds like a journo blowing hot air because no ones every going to be able to disprove it.

United team is quite poor but still has more balance than us while City, pool and spurs are certainly better. If we get Kovacic, we might leapfrog United and maybe even spurs. But I will wait to see if it happens.

I like Christensen since he is club trained (and maybe he will get better) but right now he is very average. Makes quite a few mistakes and lacks pace even at such a young age. Davinson Sanchez at same age is such a complete player, Christensen does not even come close.

Christensen lost the plot a bit after his error vs Barca granted, but upto then was incredible and the main reason our defense became so watertight in the middle of the season.

He was ok before that and I am afraid that ok-ish level wont be good enough to partner Rudiger in a back 4. I think the club knows this already hence the serious chase for Rugani.
