I don’t think Conor fits into the possession football team Enzo Maresca would want to play. I can see a midfield three of Lavia, Enzo and Caicedo.

Unless Conor transform his technical abilities over the summer he’s surplus to requirements unfortunately.

Yep.  This seems to be the way.

It is a squad game. You have the starting XI and then you have the 5 "subs" [although the possession based managers do not call them "subs" anymore]. Enzo Maresca is not going to favour a player like Conor.  Even though Conor would be extremely useful for the Chelsea squad and his energy would be a great asset in certain games, especially against the so-called 'lesser teams'.  He would offer a different option for Enzo Maresca. Bu we know that Enzo Maresca is stubborn and he will keep going with his system and he is not going to adapt it. Just like Sarri-ball of olden times. It is a great shame. He doesnt want a different option - or so we have been led to believe.

We paid £53 million for Lavia. We paid £106.8 million for Enzo. We paid £115 million for Caicedo.

Gallagher can play in this system no problem. TT who played tippy tappy ball kept playing Conor even after disaster and red card performance.

When I analyzed some of our games last season, Conor stand out big tim, he is like a machine.

I've said it before..

Every Chelsea academy player potentially up for sale because of our ridiculous overspending , suddenly becomes " just not good enough " to play for us in the eyes of some of our fans.

Not sure exactly what's happened with the contract but fact is if a new contract isn't signed then he has to go this summer. Sad but true.

Conor's on £50k a week.

Malang Sarr is on £120k a week!

Conor is well down our list of earners at the moment ,  it's all ridiculous money anyway, but that's football.

There should be a £150k pw contract on the table for Conor. I guess we'll get the details once Conor has been sold.

I'm not his biggest fan, but you can't fault his desire and work-rate.  And once moved deeper, well, everything just clicked (and allowed us to play to Caicedo's strengths).  He finished the season with respectable stats.

I respect Conor, and if we are to play a high intensity pressing style we need his energy in the squad.  Hopefully gets a new deal.

Was talking to a Leicester mate of mine and he says Gallagher will be vital. The #8s in Enzo's system do a lot of running (underlaps).

Selling Hutchinson, Chalobah, Broja, and Maatsen can hopefully prevent us from selling Gallagher. There's also the Kovacic, Kepa, Hazard, and Mount bonuses to consider (trophy wins).

If the 8s need to run no way should Enzo be one of the 8s. Which in this style of play I fully support.

Connor and Caicedo have the engines and good passing range to press, and Enzo is the 6, more a quarterback I guess.

So Lavia a back up perhaps.

Yeah agreed. There's just questions on the attack as Palmer and Nkunku are better as inside forwards vs touchline wingers.

Yeah that's the question. Have read Enzo likes touchline wingers. Which would mean Noni plus maybe Sterling? Have the pace for it, unlike Cole.

So Cole and Nkunku as the 8s? Confusing.

Guess we see what he does.

I think we’ll go 4-3-3 with wing backs being inverted when the other attacks. Our width will come primarily from James/Gusto and Cucu/ Mastsen or a new signing.

i reckon we’ll go with Lavia and Caicedo as 6’s and Enzo as an 8

That leaves the front 3 of Nkunku, Palmer and Jackson or a new striker.

Could be, but Enzo is said to like 2 8s and just 1 six though.

Exactly with either the LB or RB stepping into the 6 role when you have possession. 4-3-3  turning into 3-2-4-1. The 6 is pivotal to the setup in both defence & offence.

Which leads me to wonder if his name saked, Fernandez, as the least mobile of our midfielders and the best passer, might be that 6 as a sort of quarterback.

Villa may be a destination for him.

Would be a great move tbf.

Aren't they in the process of buying Barkley currently? Can't see them needing two more bodies in the middle unless they're selling anyone. Gallagher seems too similar to McGinn too.

Ya, Barkley to Villa for 5m apparently. He was good for Luton playing deeper, running their game. And Gallagher would seem to duplicate McGinn. If Gallagher does go, can't see Villa as the destination.

Conor has brilliant attributes as a footballer and a player that Enzo or any other manager could use.

- his workrate is second to none

- his mentality is team/club first

- he is able to rack up decent goal involvement numbers in a season.

- he is a leader among our group

- his ball recovery numbers are league leading level

- his counter pressing ability and rate is up with the best players.

Enzo Maresca's system is heavily relied on midfielders and how they succeed. This is why Conor might well be a watershed player...

I didn't know about the bonus thing, good news.

We've got ourselves in a right state financially if we have to sell 4 academy players in order to keep just 1.

Not sure that'll happen anyway . But, who can tell ?

Hope there's more assets knocking around that we can sell to ourselves .

😜

I think Fernandez could certainly play the 6 role. He is a very good passer & solid defensively. Which LB / RB is capable of stepping into the  6 alongside him ?

Atm, Cucurella and James.

Yes .. I was thinking  Reece James, he has played DM before.  I'm not sure where Chilwell fits into a Maresca team.
