Rate our wingers

Featured Replies

Just responded to a message on the CP thread.  Got me thinking.  My favourite players to watch are flying wingers, however my favourite players over time have always been right backs (Stevie Clarke, Ivan and Dave) ha ha.

Im going to mark our wingers out of 10, let me know your thoughts too.  I'm going to start with Clive Walker, Charlie Cooke before my time.... and I'm sticking with main winger at the club (i.e. Excluding say Canners as Pat was the main winger)...

walker (7/10) - inconsistent but moments of magic in a crap Chelsea side

Nevin (8/10) - super skilful but wished he would have scored more.  Oddly, my teenage memory used to think of him as not particularly fast but in his book he said he was quick.  Maybe my memory playing tricks.

McAllister (3/10) - poor man's Nevin.  I recall Stevie Clarke having to beat the full back for McAllister...

Wise (5/10 as a winger 8/10 when moved to the middle) - just didn't do it for me as a winger.  Not skillful enough.  Like to see my wingers skinning the defenders.  When he moved to the middle thoigh.....

Gronkjaer (5/10) -  first game I thought he was brilliant and then Ranieri took him.off at half time!!!  After that realised he was fast but not much else.  Did score that goal though.

Robben (9/10) - world class to my eyes with the exception of being made of glass.  Always thought this was more mental as opposed to being actually injured.

Duff (8/10) - breaking my rule about the main winger as played with Robben but a personal favourite of mine.  Just a shame injuries took their toll like Joe Cole.

Malouda (8/10 for his season and a half of good play 2/10 either side of that purple.patch)  - enough said.

hazard (9/10) - him and Robben in the same team, wow....

Pulisic?????

Phil Driver 10/10 in the 6-0 v Newcastle. Barely featured after that.

I'd give Nevin 9/10 for his impact and consistency. A joy to watch.

No way is Robben worth the same mark as Hazard. He had the talent, no question, but his output was nowhere near Hazard's.

How are you rating Willian and Pedro ?

Willian 7/10 for me. Solid player, but not consistent starter level consistency to his game but truly undervalued

Pedro 7/10 - had some outstanding moments and scored some important goals. Also, collected a ball 10 yards from our own 18 and dribbled it out for a corner for the other team. So, it was a truly mixed bag.

Pulisic - 6/10 - when he is healthy he's active and finds himself in good positions for rebounds. Tracks back and gives his all for the squad. However, he cannot keep himself healthy for any stretch of matches.

Hazard was better than Robben.

Agreed. I would rate Robben as a 7 for us, mainly because he was injured so much and his third and final season was pretty mediocre. His first two seasons when he could play at his best were exceptional. He was a much much better player at Bayern and one of the best wingers of his era.

Hazard was vital to pretty much everything we won when he played with us, and we relied on him far too much. I remember the criticism he would get when he would go on a run of not scoring a goal, but if we had the players around him that would step up when he couldn't, fans wouldn't have got on his back. The difference with Hazard and all of our other top players over the years is that they could afford to lose their form a bit, there was always somebody else that would step up, Hazard never had that luxury. If Hazard wasn't performing, then Chelsea wasn't perfoming, it was like that throughout most of his time with us.

I'd give Pulisic a 6.5 purely because I think he's better than just above average. He's shown blistering form which helped take us to top 4 in his debut season. He scored in his 1st ever ucl semi final and assiste in the 2nd leg. On song devastating player and I think rival fans know it, a fit confident Pulisic in 2 years could destroy this league he just needs to stay healthy and continue to hone his craft.

Hazard 9.5 yeah I'll fan boy a little, if you're the best player in the league you're not a 9. Some days he touched Messi level in terms of not only goals but, performance because you could say all you want about cr7 (I'm a big fan) as he got older his style changed he wouldn't rip through a team like Messi or Eden in fact what Hazard did in his last season some of those goals were truly breathtaking.

My favourite Chelsea player of all time. Had he not been obsessed with Madrid perhaps he could have touched truly legendary status (I think he is a legend just not the extent of some of our other greats).

I agree with all the other ratings

CHO 6

Ziyech 6

Werner not exactly a winger more an inside fwd but I'll still rate him 7 since he was a creative force last season how many times did he run down the wing and put on a plate.

Ziyech and Hudson-Odoi a 6? I wouldn't rate them above average at the moment. Hudson-Odoi is a 4 and Ziyech is a 3. Ziyech has been dreadful in all but a few games, and Hudson-Odoi hasn't kicked on since recovering from his injury.

I'm not going off just this season just both their tenures including both of their forms before injury. 18/19 CHO had me excited for a youth product for the first time in a long while alongside Ruben.

Also I'm one of the most critical of CHO because I know what he should be doing and what he's capable off. He is a very good passer of the ball, he can cross well on occasions but, his shooting let's him down. Lowest I'd go for CHO is 5.5 but I'll stick with the 6.

Ziyech gets the 6 because he contributed in big games last season, yes he was anonymous in a lot of games but, he did score vs City twice, Athletico, Villarreal in a cup final and before his second injury under Lamps he looked like the best player in the team.

Duff, J Cole (felt sorry for WH back then only 6million), Robben, Hazard all were mustard. Anyone remember Goldbaek

Scored a brilliant goal at White Hart Lane.

Was signed after Laudrup moaned he was homesick shortly after joining Chelsea.

Surprised there's been no ratings of these Chelsea wing legends.
