Josh Acheampong

Featured Replies

Personally, I don't think Acheampong is ready, mainly because of the physical side. Saying he can improve that in the gym is too simplistic. He can go to the gym all he likes, but he needs to learn to use his physicality more than gain muscle. This has been his main issue in the little we have seen of him and it's something he will need to develop to make it to a top level.

Other than that, I think it was always going to be difficult for him to integrate into a team with what he has around him. Young players need experience and quality around them to learn from, especially at CB. It's the position that requires the most amount of concentration. Every defender in this squad is a disastrous time bomb, you can't really grow as a footballer surrounded by this amount of dross.

Sure the £30m buyback clause was too low, £40-£45m with a 20% sell on clause also, We had a £35m buyback clause in Livramento’s sale to Southampton, and chose to bank £15m instead. Spanish giants Madrid & Barca have been exploiting this for fun. Madrid sold Nico Paz to Como last season for €6m, and are resigning him for €10m this summer when he is at minimum a €50m player.

Well if he decides to go to Arsenal for £40m, a sell on clause at say 20% will kick in meaning we bank an extra £8m.

I liken his situation to Quansah at Liverpool who they sold to Leverkusen for £35m with a £70m buyback this season, and £56m one in 2027. He went out on loan at 19 to the Championship, came back at 20, racked up 1190 PL mins. That dropped to 539 PL mins at 21. Knowing Konate & Van Dijk were going to be 1st choice pairing, he was sold to Leverkusen with buyback clauses inserted. He has racked up 2500 Bundesliga mins in his 1st year.

Josh had 665 PL mins last season, he needs to be doubling it this season if he stays or it will just be a waste of everyone’s time.

I understand he needs more minutes. But we all think he has the ability to be world class.

So the issue with a sell on clause is that we lose control of the player.

We aren't Madrid, if we let a world class player go, we don't know if they will come back when we ask. They will have options.

If we sold colwill to Brighton with a sell on, he 100% wouldn't be playing for Chelsea next season.

That's why I'd loan him.

Isn't Nico Paz on the verge of turning Madrid down to stay at Como?

Does he have a say? The buyback clause kicks in again next season for €10m

Of course he has a say, you can't force a player to sign a contract.

This explains why you were so pro buy back clause.

The buyback clause requires the player and the original club to agree a new contract. It's not loaded in the club's favour beyond the price.

I mean anything else is basically slavery, im surprised anyone thinks otherwise.

I know that. He is hesitant about going back till he knows where he fits in the club’s plans.

In this instance; a sale with a buyback clause strengthens Josh’s position, instead of just sending him out on endless loan deals.

Anywhere but here to honest. He isn’t going to game time here, and if he is smart needs to be handing a transfer request.

Well you clearly want him gone !

He is just 20 years old made appearance, yes admittedly as a sub, in 17 PL games years in season 25/26 not bad I would say for a then 19 year old.

It will I admit be very interesting to see if Alonso plays a 3 at the back but I suspect that we will see far more of him next season and if Gusto is sold I would imagine they won’t be looking at a replacement as they already have one in the squad.

Likely going to be less with no Europe and if Alonso, like many before him, are allegedly pressured into playing Fofana or Tosin.

Fofana will fracture his pussy and miss 3/4 of the season again so no need to worry there

Any chance you can actually read the things your posting links to before losing your mind every single tedious time.

This place can really be unbearable during the summer months...

I suspect it's a mostly AI-generated "article" based entirely on an "EXCLUSIVE" tweet from an arsenal-ITK account. It even includes the tweet and mention that he has a "mixed" record, so at least it's being transparent. I like how the tweet claims "Chelsea do NOT want to sell him but the player wants to leave and has been offered around". If we want to keep him, why would we be offering him around?

It baffles me how people can get themselves so worked up by such nonsense.
