He was also very good in the World Cup on 2006 which was his first major tournament (well he was at Euro 2004 but was really there or the experience as much as anything else)

For someone of his age he has a phenomenal number of caps (over 60)

As a Bayern fan I'm sad to see that it didn't work out between him and us. He has immense potential, a lethal left foot and speed in abundance. With 23 he wants to play regularly now, but was only third choice after Toni and Klose. I don't know if he would be suited to you, becuse you rarely play with 2 full strikers and I doubt that he would start consistently for you which is what he is after. A move to Italy or Spain would be better for him I think.

Sadly club Podolski is a different player from NT Podolski.

I'm not sure about him yet.

He can finish, there is no doubt about that.

Just not sure about the rest of his game.

your right, hes one of them rubbish strikers , the kind that do nothing other than score goals..... :D

only kidding.....

Like you 4EVER I am not 100% convinced by Podolski however I must say that if came to a choice between him and Huntelaar (who appears to be a firm favourite around these parts) I would tip Podolski to do better in the Premiership.

Most probably the best possible signing during the winter transfer window. As long the Man City sheiks stay away from him, I think he would be a great buy. I really hope we can trade him for Malouda or Kalou. I have no idea what his possible signing fee would be, but if we could buy him for around J15 mln it would be fantastic

I agree.

I dont think he is as good as anelka. If he does sign for sure it will be a good signing. just be intresting to see how he adpats(if he does)and how quick he does it.

No matter how great some strikers are, some are not suited to the EPL.

The German media is saying that his coach doesn't allow him to go because he wants to have 4 fully available strikers in his team.

He is likely to join another team but from I have read so far he is keen on joining another German club rather than going abroad but he doesn't exclude the option entirely.

Maybe Ballack can convince him? *gg* I'm always pleased to see a German addition - given the fact they're great at penalties and penalty shootouts are a virulent point in Chelsea's history in the recent years ::ChELSeAFaN::

He strikes me as being a German version of David Healy. Scores international goals for fun but doesn't produce the same effect at club level. Might be wrong though.

the fans of FCB where he currently is want him to go out. Most people believe he'll return to Cologne his home club, but they don't have the cash to get him. And I think we don't have it either - they want 15m for him.

Podolski really is a mystery. He was leathal at the Europeans for Germany but can't convince Klinsmann enough to sideline Klose or Toni. He might turn out another Milan Baros in the EPL. I think he will go to a team he is certain to play. Sad to see such a powerful kick and lightning speed go to waste..

German fans of FCB are telling that he's not engaged enough and willing to fight for a starting place. I have no clue how it's really going on there - just read the reports and reactions of the fans. If it turns out to be true I can understand it.

Agree with Virosh in that we will not find anyone better that's available in the January window.

Would love to sign him as a result, I think he'd be the sort of player who could get a goal from no where, which is exactly what we've needed for a few games so far this season.

I'm very pro-podolski. I think his technique is excellent, his passing is fluid and finishing razor sharp. I think he would really flourish with us, only 23 still! Get him in Jan and we can more realistically compete for both PL and CL. Great opportunity. Yes, yes and yes.

I remember he played as LW in Euro 2008, one of the better players for the German. He can provide some compeition for Malouda, and of course as a second striker. Get rid of Kalou and get Podolski, a good deal !

I am open to the idea of Podolski. Although if his attitude is the problem, and he isnt willing to sit if he isnt first choice, then I doubt we will be much better off with him.

He strikes me as a kind of raw-Rooney. A trequartista kind of striker. But if he hasnt put his game together at the club level, and gotten his head straight, I dont think its worth the effort or money.

if we could get Klose, on the other hand....

btw, welcome to the shed end, reaver

I'd take him and Huntelaar to be honest. I doubt very much that Drogba will be with us next season, if even for the rest of this season, so we will probably need 2 forwards.

I've advocated Huntelaar for a long time now, but that is merely because he was an option I favoured, untill now Podalski hasn't been mentioned. I'd take them both.

However, if I had to choose one, it'd be Huntelaar as I feel he's a little more versatile than Podolski who is a litte more one footed and a little less predatory...in my opinnion

We need some new marksmen for penalty shootouts?

:D true!

With Ballack in the team Podolski could get his head straight and to concentrate on working hard to earn his spot. Nothing wrong with his skills that is for sure and he is only 23. Changing country could do him good.

He would end up in the same situation as he is in Bayern so that is why I don't think we will buy/get him.

Kalou actually is in same situation as Podolski. Both players don't fit into their coaches systems.
