Now Man City want Ash Cole

Man City will make an amazing £20million bid for Ashley Cole in January.

The club’s billionaire Arab owners are trying to exploit Cole’s contract situation at Chelsea — and also sign Portsmouth midfield star Lassana Diarra.

An £18m deal for Diarra is almost complete but Cole will be much harder to sign.

City are willing to pay Chelsea £20m and will offer him a £130,000-a-week deal to move to Eastlands.

Cole, 27, has 2½ years of his current deal left which pays £82k a week — much less than Frank Lampard and John Terry.

Chelsea are aware of City’s intentions and also of the fact Cole could ‘buy out’ his contract next summer and move for nothing.

FIFA rules state the contract of any player over 27 is out of the ‘protected period’ when there are less than two years left.

A senior City source said: “The owners agreed to strengthen the team in January. The Diarra deal is almost done and Cole is very interesting.â€

Media drivel - not gonna happen. I don't think Cole would go to a club destined to win bugger all just for money (ok, he is probably the one player on our team I shouldn't be saying this about <_< , but surely he rates winning trophies).

Besides, whoever told these journalists J20 mln is a lot of money ? We paid 18 for Bosingwa and A. Cole is arguably the best left back in the world.

Also, that thing about being down in the salary food chain causing him worries is so far fetched - he knows JT and Lamps are the leaders of the team - they deserve more.

Are we the only club where this can happen? That's what the press seem to believe

I think it says a lot about our players, City claimed they'd buy "the best" and they've been linked to a few of our players already

Agree - so is it a pride that our players have the class of Cristana, Messi and Steffi? Wow! Unbelievable! So now ManCity has become the new hype-indicator. Incredible

I guess us as Chelsea fans need to watch what we say in case of being accused of being hypocritical but I think Man City are just taking the piss out of football.

Yes, we have bought big before (though definitely now a thing of the past) but Man City seem to be taking this to a whole new level. I think that for the majority, we have (in the more spending days) bought players that we needed to fit into the team (even Sheva) whereas Man City seem to at least for now, be interested in players because they are 'names'.

I think if most of these 'apparent' offers turn into sales come January/August next year, English football will take a whole new turn! I also think things could get mucky for City down the line.

I've heard they're already thinking of loaning out SWP to Madonna

Any evidence that this is City rather than the press filling its pages with transfer speculation, based on nothing other than Man City having lots of cash they want to spend?

They have Robinho, this is proof enough  for claiming they want just about EVERYONE, ManC-factor = hype factor - will this help in the contract talks? - Boss ManCity wants me and they're offering me XY m cash per year - more I want more! More or I join City to become the fifth striker in the row!

To be fair to City the press are linking them to pretty much everyone much the same as they did with us for about four seasons until we finally began to slow down in the market. Expect a load more of this as we approach the transfer window.

That's why whoateallthepies wrote City has become Chelsea before their breakdown. But I think City's not really becoming Chelsea just the press has found a new golden baby as ManU, scum, Gooners and Mighty Chelsea have obviously becoming boring the last weeks.

I dont think they would seriously bid that for Cole, but if they did I would call their bluff and tell them to double it if they want to make a deal. We might as well scalp them like so many have with us. It would send the wrong message, though

They are doing what we tried to do under Claudio, IMO. Get a huge number of outstanding position players, and hoping that works in a system. Except when we did that, we brought in Jose to put a system in place and he flushed out all that we didnt need.

If Man City want to do that, they can prepare to flush a year or more, and 100 million down the drain. If they wanna do that, I say let them.

The press are merely using citeh as they have used us in the past, and so will their agents. For every investor that come into the premm, all agents will be using them as leverage to campaign for more money on their contracts.

I think these allegations will level out the playing field but I could see citeh snapping up a couple of big names. Terry and Cole from us???? I doubt it, but seeing as we paid so little for cole (comparatively speaking) I could see him leaving

Hope this makes us focus our efforts a little more than just buying big names
