PloKoon13
Mmm... in the end I chose Bosingwa on the basis that he got a couple of decent crosses in...

bjd
Terry and Bosingwa? Crazy. Boswinga ? Are you serious ? I am now very much maintaining my theory that against good opposition he is ordinary and is suspect defending when up against top players. A bit like the team as a whole really. Man of the match today ? Toughie, Ivanovic maybe. Looks a top draw player. Still, he could easily have been booked twice today.
goose
Difficult to pick out anyone but went for Cole as he seems to be one of the few up for it and ran his bollicks off for the cause.
Kerry
Chelsea and Arsenal were training on the pitch for most parts of the 90 min but only the referee decided to play after some time - so if someone deserved it, then it's him
loz
Ivanovic for me. The only defender in our team who currently looks like he is good enough to be in a title challenging side. For me the next back four should be Ferreira...........Alex..............Ivanovic.....................A Cole

As long as Carvalho is still injured that is (from what they were saying today it sounds as we wont be seeing him until the New Year) Edited November 30, 2008 by bjd
blizeH
That's what I meant, no way I'd of picked Terry or Bosingwa for man of the match, also agree with Loz to an extent, although I'd pick Belletti over Ferreira and I thought that Ashley Cole was great tonight :P Lampard, Ivanovic or Cole for man of the match. Chippy
I thought Kalou was going to surprise us and done ok for periods in the first half, Cole done OK, Boswinga ok in the first half but it seems as soon as Clichy started pegging him back we got worse and in fact if he is quiet we struggle. Ivanovic done well and gets my vote although was lucky not to earn a second Yellow Edited November 30, 2008 by Chippy

Yeah Cole did have a good game. I think Belletti is similar to Bos in that he is good going forward but suspect when it comes to actual proper defending. Belletti is also prone to having an absolute stinker of a game once in a while. As the season progresses i wouldnt be surprised if more teams pinpoint Bos as someone that can be got at. He nearly cost us a few times today and I would say he is the whole team encapsulated in one player - good, sometimes outstanding against mediocre opposition but struggles against better teams. Just as some seem to advocate the Cole/Bridge link up on the left, i think we could do a lot worse than a Paulo/Bos link up on the right. Paulo,i cant ever seem to recall letting us down (at right back) against a top team in a big game. For a game that we know will require more defending than usual he would be my first choice. People seem to forget Paulo was an integral part of the best ever Premiership defence and the best defence we have ever seen across a season at Chelsea. Since then for him it has mostly been games at left back, centre back and 10 min cameos and his confidence has taken a knock. The only time he has had an extended run in the team was at the end of the 06/07 season which ended with what i thought was a mom performance at Wembley where he kept Ronaldo totally quiet. Food for thought, anyway. Edited November 30, 2008 by bjd
ethicalstrategy
Well I can only really judge for the 60 minutes that we turned up for. If I based it on the last 30 then it would be impossible to give it to anyone. Upto then Ballack and Bosingwa were playing well. Ivanovic was superb but then it was his terrible header that led to the first goal. The player who really made the team tick was Mikel who completely dominated the midfield until he was subbed. Mod
Ashley Cole. For me the next back four should beFerreira...........Alex..............Ivanovic.....................A Cole I agree, though if Riccy fit put him in Ivanovic's place and Ivanovic on the bench. loz
It is a pretty tough call between Alex and Ivanovich to be honest as neither have done much wrong. My inclination is to go for Ivanovich over Alex although I realise this is pretty tough on Alex.

icecoolguy22
Mikel for me, although he only played 60 minutes, we had complete control of the midfield while he was on, and he sheidled the backline easily. Wenger must had a laugh when Scolari took Mikel off.
Mod
Alternatively we could consider a back line ofIvanovich......Alex.....Carvalho......A Cole I'd still prefer Paulo at Right back. I think Ivanovic is good and the last few games has been one of our best, I just think giving Paulo a good consistent run of games would get some good games from him. I'd even say play Paulo anyway and push Bosingwa up on the wing.

Must say the way Boswinga can cross the ball he could be a good alternative on the wing, someone has to get service to Anelka and if we play a more defensive RB i dont think our choices at RW are going to deliver it. PloKoon13
I'm starting to like the sound of this idea of bringing Ferreira back in at RB, and pushing Bosingwa and Ashley Cole forward. Alternatively we could have a three-man defence, have Mikel covering the back four, so we have an extra man forward, giving us more options to give it to Malouda to blaze it into the crowd ¬___¬
Mod
It just makes sense. Jose has pace and can flip a ball in nicely where as his defensive duty lacks. Paulo (with a good run of games) is a good defender that doesn't like to get forward too much.

loz
Well generally speaking with centre halves that is all you are looking for. It is only now and again that a centre half is going to win a game with a goal. You just want them playing well and not making big mistakes. Alex and Ivanovic tick those boxes for me so far this season.

Alex and Ivanovic tick those boxes for me so far this season. I think most fans (when voting for MOTM) are looking for moments in a game that a player actually did something to earn the vote, weather it may be for a last gasp challenge, or a goal line clearance, a save, or some other moment that may have decided the game in some way. Its a shame were having to vote in this way, I would much rather we were voting for positive moments in the game, rather than for 'not doing anything much wrong' as such.
