Maybe AVB rates him higher than Josh.

Well. of course. He has a kind of exotic sounding name in Piazon and he comes from Brazil. That should be more than enough

This kid has dominated the competition that he has played against so far. He played really well in the FA Youth Cup and personally I feel that this kid is ready to play in the first team. Hopefully the way this team has been promoting youth changes and lets Piazon show what he can do. Wishful thinking though.

It's only wishful if you look at our track record, but it's the whole point is'nt it ? the target is to bring through one of these kids that the scouts get paid for finding, about time they earned their money.

It cant be easy for our managers past and present. The youth are there and we want to see players come through but the managers cant risk not winning someone other wise they get the boot.
I would like the board to hire a manager and say his target is purely to build a new team and bring through the right players into the first team.
How ever they wont do that. They may say they want that to happen but they also expect to win the league, rebuilding takes time and because we havent been replacing and moving on some of the "dead wood" / older players each season it is now a massive task.
I put this down to having a new manager nearly each season. The new gaffa comes in and needs time to look at the squad, well there goes the first transfer window. In January we are told that no major business gets done in January and then by the next transfer window we have a new manager and the whole thing starts again.

Other teams seem to have the same expectations and still bring through youth players. Arsenal, Man U, and Spuds seem to be bringing in some youth into the team. You look at some of the players we have in the youth system and it looks like we have a great set up. Players like Chalobah, Piazon, Bertrand (Establishing himself already) Lukaku, Josh, etc should all be first teamers at some point.

As for Piazon, I think he is the most polished player we have in our youth system. I even will go ahead and say that I feel that he is better than Josh. Now I know some see Josh as the next great one, and I agree he will be a good player, but I seem more from Piazon. Piazon is more of an attacking threat where Josh would be better from a deeper central position.

You cant really talk about Man Utd and Arsenal in the same way you can with us, their managers are in a massively powerful position and can risk playing youth. Spuds expectations are also massively lower than our own, or at least were lower.

I've said it before, but the pressure on the manager to perform immediately is too big for them to focus on the Youth Team. However, maybe with the Europa League pending next season, and potentially Robbie as our manager, it'd be great if we stuck with a plan to bring some of them through

It's about continuity. The Youth team needs to play exactly the way the first team plays, so that they can be integrated without too much fuzz (this is why Barcelona has 7-8 La Masia products in their first XI, they have played the same way for 15 years). Since our Youth team now plays more or less like AVB wanted the seniors to play, it's difficult to find our man to take the manager job and to integrate our academy players. RDMs Italian philosophy (solid defending, emphasize on physical presence) or Capellos physical style of playing would be super contra-intuitive if we want to integrate Piazon and Josh in our squad next year.

And also, which players have United brought up from their academy? Scholes and Giggs of course, they were/are good, but they have used a lot of money as well. Arsenal? Well, the African/French team has a very smart philosophy, but then again, how many trophies do they have? As for Spuds, well... They have a drinker as their coach and will not win anything.
