Lucas Piazon

I'd like to know how we're going to sign him. He's not a full international, and he's only fifteen, he'll never get a work permit. Unless somehow he's entitled to a European passport.

I guess failing that we could always loan him out to some other side in Europe, but could we trust another with his education at thi vital point in his career?

I'll guess he will stay in Brazil on loan a while anyways.

Alex was older in that situation I believe, but I don't why this 15 year old deal makes me think of another Kakuta affair. Would it be that wise to get into this kind of transfer in January?

We can sign whoever we want in Brazil, it's just that they can't be shipped over here until the transfer window after they turn 18.

Not 100% sure but I think their may be a rule preventing Brazilians from leaving until they are 18. That would explain why Man U signed Rafael and Fabio but had to wait 18 months to get them.

Hmm thanks for that bit of info, I just bought a kid from Brazil that's 17 (FM) and pretty much confirmed it ::clap2:: Well then....go ahead with the deal ::clap2::

Didn't Milan have to wait when they bought Pato as well?

Are you sure? I think the transfer was completed but he wasn't eligible to play for some time. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I just read this on wikipedia:

"Milan officially confirmed the signing of Pato on 2 August 2007, paying €20,000,000 to transfer his contract from Internacional. Due to FIFA football regulations regarding non-EU minors, Pato was unable to play official matches for Milan until 3 January 2008, when the Italian transfer window and registration reopened."

So it was because of the regulations regarding non-EU minors. Not sure what the regulations are though.

Breaking news in Brazil this evening suggests that long-term youth target Lucas Piazon has agreed to join Chelsea from Sao Paulo when he turns 18, for a reported fee of €10m.

The website “Lance!net†initially reported that the teenager, currently playing for Brazil in the South American Under-17 Championships, will join the Blues ahead of competition such as Juventus, who were believed to have agreed a deal to sign him earlier this year.

The news has since been confirmed by Sao Paulo themselves (the link quotes club officials).

Touted as ‘the new Kaka’, Piazon was initially linked with a move to West London two years ago as a fifteen year-old, and has since gone on to impress in Sao Paulo’s youth teams.

He is set to travel to England at the end of the current international tournament for medical tests and to sign paperwork, before arriving at the end of the year after turning 18, in line with FIFA laws.

^ Next January. Meaning he'll come over the summer of 2012.

edit: Unless they allow him to move in the middle of the transfer window, as his birthday happens to be right in the middle of January.

Not to be confused with Lucas moura who is also an attacking midfielder from sao paolo, who. impressed at the u20 south American cup last month.

Never seen Lucas piazon play but if he has as much potential as his namesake, then it is a sterling bit of buisness. Pity we have to wait a year to see him play, if he makes the same impact as kaka did at Milan he could be an ace up our sleaves come next years run in.

So the rumours are it has already been announced on the Sao Paulo website, though I couldnt find anything 100% definite anywhere. Does anyone actually know anything about him? He`s been compared to half a dozen players already, from Messi to Kaka so I presume he`s an attacking midfielder.

From what I've read he's more of a second striker, but can also play in the hole and on the flanks. no official announcement yet and I doubt there will for a few weeks, as the player is in equador on international duty, so he still has to pass a medical. there were loads of reports saying he signed for juve last month , so I guess wel have to wait n see.

He seems built more like kaka and pato, than robinho and neymar, just hope that if we do sign him, he uses this year to bulk up, as that seems to be a big factor why players like kakuta, are struggling to produce performances like they do at youth level.

I am not holding my breath. Aren't we all pretty well aware of the last Brazilian midfielder named Lucas who came to the English Premier League?

I know.

It's always a bit of a gamble when signing someone young. They might have potential, but there's no way knowing if he will reach his full potential.

I mean, we've seen "huge talents" like Reyes, Jeffers and such who didn't exactly become great players.

From what I can tell Piazon is rated better than Kaka at the same age. But I guess he can still become only an average player. On the other hand, maybe he will become a new Kaka.

It's a gamble, but it might pay off.
