ANCELOTTI: HUTCH CAN STILL SUPPORT US

Carlo Ancelotti has praised Sam Hutchinson for his attitude over the past three years, and expressed his hope that the young defender stays with the club following his retirement.

The 21-year-old was forced to bring an end to his promising career following three years of knee problems, but plans to stay with the club as an Academy coach while also studying sports science at university.

'We are sad, disappointed about this, he decided to retire after very strong work to recover from his injury,' Ancelotti said.

'He was not able to do this but now we are together to look forward to support him in everything. He will start to study sports science, he will start to train with our Academy, and we would like that he stays in our family because he has a strong character and showed this during the years when he tried to recover from the injury.

'He is a very good man and can have a fantastic job here in Chelsea and support us with his character,' the manager continued.

'Obviously he is sad now but he has to look forward, there are a lot of things. You can't play but you can do different jobs in football, he loves football and we will support his passion.'

Sam Hutchinson starts for the reserves today! Imagine if he could come back and be a part of our first team in years to come.. It would be incredible, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

Apparently he has been in Dubai with specialists and has trained at Cobham this summer. Brilliant news if he can have another go.

There was a story on another Chelsea site a while back that he might be making a comeback. Didn't report it here because I didn't want to raise people's hopes, and besides it was unsubstantiated.

Brilliant if true though. Best of luck to him.

I hope he can make it back. he looked quality. I think if he hadnt have gotten that injury he'd have gotten in our team last season.

Frigging hell, this is one out of the blue. Fantastic news and would be truly amazing if he could make it all the way into the first team where had it not been for injuries I have no doubt he would have featured heavily for us by now. Well done to the club for standing by him too - guess that is further proof of the potential of the lad.

Even with a new keeper and a first look at the team, this is the best news of the day. I heard we were losing at Crawley any idea of how it finished up?

Fingers crossed for the lad because you just never know,at least there looks to be a glimmer of light for him to have a career in football, best of luck Sam.

What I would like to know is why are so many players getting 'big' career threatening injuries?,hardly a month goes by it seams without a knee problem or muscle tear.

What's the cause?,to much training?,modern studs digging into the turf to much?,or are the pitches to blame?.

At this rate, most modern players will have had at least one major injury by their late 20's or early 30's.

Maybe we should bring back Gola football boots & mud for pitches!.

I read that he only joined in to make up the numbers, his future is still very up in the air.

That may be true, but even so, having a future that is "up in the air", i.e. with a possibility that with successful treatment he may at some stage be able to make a return to professional football, is still a big improvement, and sound immeasurably more hopeful than a career that was prematurely and permanently ended due to injury.

Yes that is very true. I thought he was going to take his coaching badges and start working with the youth team.

I went to Bromley vs. Chelsea XI today and Hutchinson was read out before hand to start. When the game kicked off I couldn't see his number and he wasn't on the bench. I fear an injury in the warm up ruled him out :(
