What is Mount’s position? Because I doubt anyone would say it’s a winger. There’s a mass of them on the books, yet he’s played put there - why? Then, in other games, he’s played at eight, false nine or ten - sometimes all three.
He’s 24, still very young for a footballer at this level, and I think his flexibility is working against him. Pick a position for him to hone and let him get on with it. Get back to basics.
Saying that I do feel he is struggling emotionally, and I believe it’s because he has doubts about whether the club he loves values him. Indeed, I think the doubt may have started in Lampard’s time, when Havertz joined for a huge fee. Suddenly, someone comes in who plays in a similar position, I’m assuming on more money, despite him having a brilliant season. And it did change the balance of the team - starting for tactical reasons, I don’t think we’ve seen the best of Mount since. To tie it up the above, maybe there’s a nagging question mark why he tends to get moved around for others, rather than being used as the lynchpin of the team.
Then we have the contract situation, which is the club’s chance to show how much is valued. Yet they’re refusing to do so. So now he’s low on confidence and possibly low on support, generally being played out of position in an out of form side.
As painful as it is to say, a move may do him a lot of good in the long term.

This season was going off the rails under Tuchel with a healthier squad. Personally, I think we should have kept him and let him ride it out but there's no denying there were issues before he was sacked.

It feels like Moyes' reign at United. How can players have respect for a manager who has won less than them, and has a 'small club' mentality to approach and tactics?

I only hope that the new signings are Potters and not somebody else's!

Though I’m sure it would catch Wolves out if we did play three wide on the right.

Who knows but extremely frustrating to see a path back into the starting XI for senior players immediately when the likes of James and Mount in particular have more than earned their stripes.
It's the path of picking tried and tested in hopes of instant results as we've seen time and again with the manager churn we have.

Yeah, he clearly had the greatest respect for Frank while he was talking to the Chelsea board behind his back.

Don’t lose more than five games, Thomas, or you’ll be sacked. And don’t expect a message from Roman.

Sacking Frank bears some similarities to the circumstances of Di Matteo's sacking.
Just reeks of the club looking for any excuse to jump ship at the first sign of trouble and move on to someone more experienced in the job. They may well be vindicated in their decision in the long-term.
It does make me wonder whether Frank was always a stop-gap measure in the eyes of the owner/board after losing Hazard and having a transfer embargo over our heads, and they knew that appointing a club legend would appease the supporters for a while.
One way or another, it's a sad set of circumstances.

Why is that an idiotic comment? Even if someone feels the time is right for Frank to leave the last thing they should be doing is celebrating. If they’re a true Chelsea fan, that is.

IF TRUE I think the player spoke in the present tense, whilst Frank was still in charge; The Athletic has changed it to suit the changing situation. Does make me wonder if it was Azpilicueta or Zouma mouthing off due to the Jose reference, though.

But surely those managers have an input with the DoF and sign players they want; not get a number who they didn’t ask for. Despite being a fantastic prospect the signing of Havertz never made sense at the time and still doesn’t now; maybe he’ll come good under a new boss but the balance of the squad is not right at the moment.

That makes you and 99% of us on here.

I'm not as sad as others because I accepted it a while ago, but I know how much it stings. And for people who believed in Frank and still do, that must really hurt, so I feel for them. But I do think in the longrun we'll look back on this and know it was the correct decision.

The irony is I think I was prepared for it after the Manchester City game - if he was sacked then it wouldn’t have hit so hard. It feels like we were starting to grind out results (any team could go to Leicester and be flattened) and possibly find a path forward again and suddenly this has happened.
