  1. I understand the thought, but I think you’re underestimating how quickly Jackson could find his feet. He’s a bit raw but he’s already showing more than a lot of ‘proven’ goalscorers have in the past. The issue would then be that If we’ve pumped another 80m in this window in Toney, we’re left with another very expensive problem to solve.
  2. Really solid game, glad he is covering for Reece well. Won’t be easy to be 2nd choice to the club captain but looking like he will keep James on his toes when he’s back fit.
  3. Really hope this one goes well for him. Feels like he's had a few push backs already in his short Chelsea career, so it would be great to see him kick on
  4. We are rolling back the years tonight people, gone are the days that Chelsea don't know how to score. 5-0 Chelsea, Jackson to get his first goals with an Enzo screamer. P.S No, you can't have any of what I'm smoking
  5. Only counts for loans outside of English football as well, so Santos, Casadei etc dont count Edit: @Sexyfootball beat me to it!
  6. It’s utterly outrageous that he’s got the arrogance to come and admit that. We should be all over complaining to PGMOL and I don’t care how we look. At the very least we plant an idea in their mind that we’re owed one of their dodgey decisions
  7. Does seem strange, although Slonina is still a few years younger than Djordje and probably purchased with a view to being integrated in few years time or more, based on development. Petrovic, as you said, fills a need for now and is likely a bit further on in development. Probably does cause an issue further down the line if they begin to fulfil their potential but one that works for us financially.
  8. I agree, that's probably what the squad needs. I don't know who fits though
  9. Brad Friedel had some good things to say about him and supposedly his stats were the best in the US last season but that is the most I can claim to know about him. I have a better feeling about him than I did when we got Sanchez, but it does leave a very glaring unknown for us going into this season.
  10. It would be worth taking a look at the Mason Greenwood Saga you have admitted to not following in your first comment. The audio and pictures that were released provide a completely different dimension to the statement of 'innocent until proven guilty'. It's very clear that he has done more than make a mistake in his relationship and as dkw said, he's got off of prosecution due to the victim withdrawing her case. Which sadly is similar to a lot of other domestic abuse cases.
  11. Spent some time thinking about this recently, with various media personalities bashing us for not going out and buying a world class striker instead of what we have, but I'm genuinely lost as to who that would have been. Kane is the only obvious answer I can think of but Levy would have made us double Bayern's price. People talk of Osimhen but I don't see him as a guarantee for goals in the prem, especially at the price he would cost. I really think the only viable option was Toney and he's got a ban. Carragher made an interesting point that it wouldn't need to be a striker but just a goal scorer (referencing Salah as Liverpool's main outlet) but again the question is who? It's very easy to say we haven't bought guaranteed quality where we should have, but we know more than most that there's no such thing.
  12. Would really like to see a move back to 4 defenders. With the central midfielders we have signed, the protection should now be there to move away from 5 at the back (Even if Chilly has been playing at lw). Hoping for a positive response to the last two games and the start of a good run if we can get things to click.
  13. Reports he missed training today, doesn't say why. Would be a real shame if he's injured. The last thing he needs is more delays to finding his feet
  14. * Or rather we will have Colwill, Badiashile, Disasi and Fofana for the treatment room. Knowing our luck
  15. Triple swoop for Juan, Eden and Oscar would sort our creative problems right out 🤭
  16. Think he'll end up being a decent squad option and injury cover. Silva must be running out of Elixir of Life soon, Colwill and Badiashile look like good prospects and Fofana may still work when he comes back from injury. Don't see him being a nailed on starter but I don't think we need him to be.
  17. But how can you possibly know? We're two games in! This is the whole point. Chalobah was/is a decent squad player. Who have we signed that isn't? Sanchez hasn't had a great start, granted, but Petrovic (last I saw) hasn't even entered the country. How do we even possibly know that they won't end up settling well and coming good? Yes, on the surface £1b spent and you look at our squad. It doesn't add up, I won't dispute that. But our transfer policy in the years leading up to Boehly and Co taking over left us with a squad of players signed as ready made stars/starters that ended up out on loan, with us covering part of their extortionate wages to play for a different team and no one wanting to buy them permanently. Some players are still here today! I'm not saying that what we are doing is the best plan, or that it will even work. But why give up on it after two weeks?
  18. Despite his recent actions, I think saying his success went to his head is harsh. I think his success went to the heads of the media and fans, coming into the first team the way he did and the performances he gave in his first couple of seasons had some people beginning to put him in the 'Almost world class bracket'. I think he's a hard working midfielders that is capable of technical brilliance but not technically brilliant. His end product has always been inconsistent and unless he is at the top of his game, he struggles to maintain a decent level. He didn't deal with the increased criticism great when he was here (I believe there was a story that fan backlash led to him deactivating some social media) and that was still with some support from fans that had seen him rise through the academy and had a desire to see him do well. Now, he's sacrificed that security blanket and replaced it with the pressure of being united's new number 7 that was going to revolutionise their midfield and bring the glory days back.
  19. I would never wish to deprive anyone, twitter glory hunter or not, of their opinion. I'm sure others will more passionately dispute those who wish to provide a negative view on the current situation. I would simply encourage positive thought and a slight bit of patience given that we are in a new season, even though you are correct in suggesting similar mistakes have been made already regarding transfer. Financial/strategic gamble or not, our transfer business is our transfer business and our squad is our squad. We don't have much choice other than to try and get behind the team.
  20. Yeah it makes for horrible viewing but I won't justify negativity around 2, arguably solid, performances under a new manager based on a series of results from last season which came under an inexperienced full time manager and two interims. If we just sit on our backsides and say "Ah f**k it, lets be negative because last year was negative" what will ever change Edit: And to add to this, we may have been competing for trophies as recently as 2022 but we've had squad issues that have been papered over for years and that's what we are paying the price for now.
  21. The only thing I can ever remember coming out was reports that a Spurs match was on and Conte came on the screen so Tuchel said to Lukaku something along the lines of "Hey look, its your Daddy". 😁
  22. Maybe I'm just blindly optimistic but I look at our performances compared to that of United, for example, and we look so much better. Last year we looked like a team that had no idea what is was working towards or what would happen next. In these first two games we've looked like a group getting to grips with each other and how we are going to play. Fine margins have prevented us being 2 wins from 2 laughing at how far we have come. We dominated Liverpool in spells and if Enzo coverts the penalty then we probably go on to win comfortably again West Ham. I can barely remember a successful pass from the backend of last year. We've a decent little run of games now to hopefully gain some confidence and momentum before things take a bit of a turn fixture wise, so lets see where we sit in the next few weeks. With all of this said, if anyone genuinely expected us to be back at the top based on the numbers we have spent I would suggest you close twitter, switch off Sky and come back to reality. The only EXPECTATION can be Europe (of any kind). Sure, there's a chance we have a great year and somehow challenge (So could Luton, who knows), but we can't expect it and neither should the media. Spending money is never an indicator of success, especially in as short a time as we have. They'll tell us we've spent a billion so should be winning the league. But we've spent it on young, developing players. If that's right or wrong, we'll find out in a few years time. Let them rave about Spurs' new system, Arteta's title winning squad or City winning the quad. It's impossible to know where a team is based on the first few weeks. I thought we were winning the league last summer and Tuchel was gone before I went on my holiday. Make a drink, grab a seat and enjoy the ride. You may as well because you can't get off and its only just started.
  23. What went wrong is that the bloke thinks he belongs with the best strikers in the world and deserves the respect that comes with it. He lives off of his early promise and that Conte season with Inter. Even last year he was regularly on the bench for them. His attitude is a plague and is the last thing that we want around a group of young players that we are hoping are going to develop into a crop of world beaters. There's a reason not only no club wants him but fans actively protest when their board show any level of interest. It's also telling that he is not longer desired, loved or even respected by teams he has already played for. He claimed to be a Chelsea fan before he even signed for us originally, but has never shown us an ounce of love other than in the first few months when we re-signed him and I'm sure that was only because we were treating him like the god he thinks he is. And even that wasn't enough for him to keep his mouth shut for a calendar year. He struggles to maintain his fitness and physique and that's only going to get worse as the years go on. Even if we could arrange a relationship of convenience until next summer, there's no guarantee he can deliver the goods anymore. Its a high risk, low reward tactic. Hence why the club have removed him from the first team group.
  24. Really don’t like the look of the pitch. It’s giving flashbacks to that pointless post season game that ruined RLC
  25. Isn’t he on silly money at Juve though? I may just be plucking that from nowhere but I’m sure I saw he’s on north of £200k. Cant see a world where he lowers it and can’t see us paying that for to a 2nd/3rd choice, probably not even a 1st. Edit: Cycled back a page and wage was already mentioned. Just really don’t like this. I doubt Juve play football for a striker to thrive but just doesn’t feel like a natural fit with what we’ve gone for so far. Will be happily wrong though.
