Southampton v Chelsea (PL) Tues 30th Aug 2022 19:45 GMT
Ridiculous to give him a new contract just to try to one up Barca. His legs have gone. How we've ended up giving a pay rise and a 2 year contract to a player not good enough anymore is absurd.

Anthony Gordon
Gordon is a goal machine compared to out forwards (Sterling aside)

I like it. Aside from the absolutely atrocious right wing but that's something we can only fix in the market. Ziyech is our best right winger tonight but another pacey double digit goal scorer on the right would slot in lovely for the rest of the season.

Joško Gvardiol
Incredible player. Didn't think it was possible but 90m and getting to keep the player may be too hard for Leipzig to turn down. Hopefully Timo put in a good word for us, it didn't work out for him here but he always had the full support of the fans at the game.

Looking like the 4-3-3 we've been crying out for. Mount dropping into his best position in midfield and our 2 best wingers starting. Looks promising.

Christian Pulisic - Official
@USATimwhen he sits down to watch Chelsea and sees Pulisic has gone from being benched by Mount and Havertz out of position to being benched by Mount, Havertz and Ziyech

Christian Pulisic - Official
I have a hard time buying the idea United or Newcastle would want Pulisic anyway. There's the commerical side of course but he doesn't start for either and he wouldn't even get off the bench at United who have 4 much more talented Wingers. Infact both Newcastle and Manchester United were seemingly so horrified at being linked with Pulisic on loan they've both gone out and spent 70+ million on new attacking options. I honestly think we're just protecting the player because no one actually wants him with his current wages. He's in the Kepa/Drinkwater category. He may want to go and we're happy to move him on but finding a club that can take on his 150K a week salary who he'd get game time for isn't easy. Given the state of our forward options we're probably the only champions league club in a major league he'd get minutes at at all.

Official Thomas Tuchel *Now Sacked*
Interesting comments by Tuchel today that none of our options on the bench are giving him a selection headache. Coupled with the fact he's playing attacking midfielders on both wings and that we're apparently after 2 new wingers before the window shuts I think it's clear he's completely lost faith in our deadwood wingers on the bench.

Neymar
At the start of the summer I said Neymar would score more goals in his first 10 games than Pulisic and Ziyech will manage all season. He's almost certainly already done it in 5. Neymar has more goals and assists this season already than Pulisic has managed in a single season in his career and more than What Ziyech has managed in his 2 years here. He's the only player on the planet we could possibly sign that could see us challenge for the title this season. Just a ridiculously good footballer and if there was a glimmer of hope of this happening we should be offering him all of king Midas's silver. If Mbappe FC doesn't want Neymar us signing him on loan even for a world record salary makes far more sense than signing someone like Auba any of our other options or keeping what we have. highly doubt there's anything in this unfortunately, Even the cult of Mbappe won't sell or loan a man averaging over 2 goals/assists a game in the 5 first 5 games of the season. He's too important to them

World Cup year... best Chelsea player from every country?
England- Lampard France - Makelele Brazil - Willian (Technically Diego Costa) USA - Slonina
-
Callum Hudson-Odoi
CHO is far more naturally talented than any winger at the club aside from Sterling. He's lost some pace since his injury and he has to adapt his game to compensate, in the youth teams he was blisteringly quick as well as skillful, now he's not quick enough to lose defenders easily and needs to use his skills more. He absolutely does have the skills but he needs time to figure out how to adjust his game and he'll get it on loan. Personally I'd rather keep CHO here than the deadwood wingers we're keeping but I think this loan could do him the world of good and he could come back ready to perform for us in the long term.

Wesley Fofana at Chelsea *Official*
Ndidi is a good destroyer but has absolutely no ability on the ball and given we dominate possession most games we play he'd be a disaster here. Someone we should stay away from. I'd happily go for Tielemans though I think he ticks a lot of boxes for us but there's no suggestion he's the type of player Tuchel wants or that we've looked at him.

Southampton v Chelsea (PL) Tues 30th Aug 2022 19:45 GMT
Same front 3 as the last 4 games. There is no one else.
-
4 days to go. Besides fofana will we sign anyone else yes or no?
We simply have to. Without a new forward the season is over. 5th place at best. We simply don't have enough goals to compete with City/Liverpool/Arsenal or Spurs. Over the course of the season.

Welcome Ross Barkley
This. We lost £15m on Ross We lost more on Timo and Lukaku We'll lose a lot more on Pulisic, Havertz, Ziyech, Kepa and pretty much everyone else we've signed in the last few years. Barkley seems like a bargain in comparison.
-
Welcome Ross Barkley
Disapointed to see it end like this. I've never rated Ross too highly, didn't think he looked particularly talented at Everton but there are far worse players who regularly get minutes for us. Thought Barkley probably should have been used more last season he offers something none of our current midfielders do. The ability to actually score goals.

Wilfried Zaha
Are Cucurella and Fofana not young players? Or the 2 wonder kids we've signed this summer for sizable fees? We've attempted to sign Dembele, Raphina, De Ligt, De Jong, Kounde this summer certainly not a bunch of old heads. I don't feel the signings we've made indicate Tuchel would rather work with experience than Youth but the talent has to be there to nurture. Our young attacking players don't have the talent to nurture. A manager can sharpen the attack but Tuchel can't turn a bunch of spoons into knives. If there were younger options of equal ability avaliable I'm sure we'd all over them.
-
Wilfried Zaha
I think he's more sick that there are no ups. I don't think you can Argue he's been inconsistent he's just been terrible. You can persevere with a young player showing promise but a lack of consistency but when players are just consistently bad I think any manager is going to want to go into the market rather than hope a guy that hasn't managed a single good season his career has one on the 8th attempt.
-
Wilfried Zaha
Personally I think they'd be happy to take Gallagher who was their player of the season last year on loan + a small fee. Zaha is clearly their best player but with Eze, Olise and Eduard they actually do have more attacking quality now than what they've had in previous years when they were solely dependent on Wif.
-
Wilfried Zaha
He's the same age as Ziyech...just 3x the player and do you think Pulisic will ever be close to Zaha's current level at any point in his career? It's far more important to get the right level of quality than solely think of age. If we could find a 20 year old with the quality that's obviously better but who is it? And would they cost 7 or 8x what Wilf in his last year will? 2 years ago we had a young "promising" attack of Werner/Pulisic/Havertz/Tammy and CHO and how's that worked out for us? Their values have tanked and they've all failed to varying degrees to the point We've been forced to move Mount into the attacking positions. while Liverpool had Firminho, Mane and Salah who are all older than Zaha and have seen goal after goal and now have Younger players like Jota and Nunez playing alonside high quality attacking players in their prime. Those aren't bad stats at all. Wilf plays less passes because Crystal Palace themselves are a very direct side that don't seek to retain possession. It's completely a style of play choice, Wilfs actual pass completion rates are solid, he passes the ball into the box more than most players in the league as well which are typically the hardest passes to complete and as stated he's both a regular goal scorer and a successful dribbler which naturally means he'll occupy defenders. Strange to say no top club has approached him though given both Arsenal and Tottenham have gone in big for him in the past but he's been priced out of a move by Palace because he's so valuable to them. Not sure how you can suggest he's playing for a final contract either when he's been a consistent performer for years now. The only reason he may be avaliable for a low price now is because he has a year left on his contract. There simply won't be a better player avaliable for what Wilf is this summer.
-
Wilfried Zaha
It's a scandal we haven't signed him already. Wilf has played 3 games this year and is just 1 goal away this season from matching Pulisics career average annual output and has already matched the average number of league goals Ziyech has scored for us per season. Honestly given what we need, what we have, his premier league record, desperation to prove himself at the highest level and his contract situation there isn't anyone who ticks more boxes for us than Zaha. Crazy to me how anyone can see us with attacking midfielders on the wings, see the difference between them and a pacey winger who can beat a man at pace like Sterling and not think Zaha can bring a lot to this squad.
-
Raheem Sterling signs for Chelsea
Excellent to see Sterling off the mark. Hopefully this puts the ridiculous chatter that's began around him and the system to bed. 111 premier league goals for a 27 year old winger is exceptional and after 3 games without scoring people are talking about him like he's Christian Pulisic. A proven world class player that has been the standout player in our attack 3 out of our 4 games this season. He's our best attacking player and he'll continue to score goals just as he always has. His movement and anticipation is too good for him not to.

We've been worse defensively than against Leeds. Absolutely hanging on here. If Vardy wasn't 104 years old he'd have scored a hattrick today.

Whoever called Havertz a generational talent shouldn't be allowed to drive.
