  1. Missed a chance to gain a lead on the Scousers. Villa v Liverpool 0 - 0
  2. In one word: Shabby. We should and could have won with a bit more determination. I guess it was one of those games.
  3. Yeah but apart for doing a fine job, resurrecting a youth system, getting better, reaching the youth FA Cup final, getting some exciting prospects and the young Argentinean Di Santo what has Arnesen ever done for us?
  4. Let’s hope it’s not something cringing then. Although I have a feeling he might be announcing that he will be staying at Madrid for another year. As for identify other targets I agree with you. Wasn't Kenyon supposed to be one of the shrewdest men in football?
  5. Apparently Robinho is holding a press conference tomorrow at lunch time.
  6. Damn you to hell and back Redforever64!! ;)
  7. The draw looks good, we should finish top. Man U, Arsenal and Liverpool have all done well against Roma in recent years in the CL and UEFA Cup so I hope we’ll do the same.
  8. Damn I was getting all excited. I could already see myself watching the Aston Villa and Roma games. Sorry but I am a bit thick, If ZolaGod was willing to sell tickets at face value and get the money after the tickets had been received by the buyer, what is the problem?
  9. How can anyone even contemplate to put Makelele in a list of losses is beyond me.
  10. From The Times on Monday "Steven Gerrard is a brilliant player, but he cannot start on the left of midfield. Brilliant, but he does not like it on the right, either. Brilliant, yet uncomfortable behind the striker. Brilliant, but obviously cannot play in the same team as Frank Lampard. Brilliant, but he must have Gareth Barry beside him. For such a brilliant player, Gerrard’s champions spend an awful lot of time telling the world what he cannot do. Almost as much as they expend detailing the precise conditions in which he must operate: in the centre, like Roy of the Rovers, with the England team built around him. Now there was a chap who tried that. Oh, you must remember him. Ginger lad, nice smile, carried an umbrella. Not been around for a while."
  11. I’m with you on this one, about dropping Terry, but I think the armband should be given to Crouch. Being the tallest player he has a better view of what's going on the pitch and therefore is in a better position to lead the team.
  12. Bloody Spurs losing their first two games, now they gonna come to the Bridge and play for a draw and “park the bus in front of the goalâ€.
  13. To be fair it was his first official game in charge of a new club in a new league. He needs to get a feel for it before he starts taking chances.
  14. I am with the conspiracy theorists on this one. Anyone who strongly objects to Terry being England captain it is because he is a Chelsea player, there can’t be any other reason. Personally, I do not rate Ferdinand at all, but let’s assume for argument sake that he is good, how much better can he be? If Ferdinand is an 8/10 then Terry has to be a 7/10 so how can you have such strong feelings against it when the difference between the two players is so minimal? It’s not like Capello has chosen Bramble over Ferdinand is it? And even if Ferdinand is a better player that doesn’t necessarily mean he is a better captain. Ferdinand is third choice at his club for God sake while Terry has captained Chelsea for about six years.
  15. Damn those pundits! They are going to give away our secrets. ;) Pompey were definitely below par and look shell shocked with 20 minutes on the clock however you can't take away form the Chelsea players the fact that a lot of the reason Pompey were o poor was that whenever they were in possession we were hounding them. We never gave them time to settle and every player looked like they were playing for the place in the first team such was the effort they were putting in. James gifted us two goals, Anelka’s and Deco’s. I couldn’t see the game as my Sky box stopped working when I tried to record the game before I went out. I got it working when I came back in the evening but by then couldn’t see anything because I already had put a foot through the TV. Only joking, I watched the highlights on Sky first and then MotD, couldn’t really tell from those if we were really good or Pompy was below par but as I said James definitely gifted us two goals. In an interview after the defeat on penalties against Man U, “Pompy†said that from what they had seen on the pitch they were confident for the season ahead. So it must have been us being very good. :D For the people who don’t remember a start like this, I seem to remember a similar start last season, all media praising our football after we beat someone at home on the opening day.
  16. Not for long. It seems that Liverpool and Villa are after him. Kaka is the better player at the moment, but I strongly object paying over 35 million for any player. Then again, following the Shevchenko cock up maybe I’ll have to increase my maximum to 40 million.
  17. I was thinking more on the lines of what implications will have the complete absence of Maka in front of the defence this year.
  18. As I said I’m all for slagging off The Mail, which is just a pile of manure but I’m not bothered about the pictures. Anyway, The Guardian on line runs a section called The Gallery, which is dedicated to photoshopped pictures of people in football.http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/series/thegallery
  19. In my opinion the argument works because we already have 8 midfield players who preatty much command a first team place.
  20. I wasn’t questioning his past commitment, I was questioning his future commitment. He is a year older and over thirty, that alone is a problem with strikers. He is stuck with a club he doesn’t want, if you believe what has been reported for the past year. He has got the raise he wanted. Where is motivation going to come from? Obviously, mine is just speculation but a fair question to ask in my opinion. I don’t know why you are surprised that no offers came in for him. He is 31 year old, you don’t see many top club investing in 31 year old strikers as their main striker. Or maybe he did have his heart set on AC Milan but when they failed to qualify for the Champions League he changed his mind.
  21. How effective is he gonna be next season now that his bubble has been burst? He thought he was gonna walk in any top European team and clubs would be fighting for his signature (to be fair he does have the credentials). It must have been a massive blow to his confidence when no-one came for him.
  22. I don’t know. It seems the average piss take you find on the web about pretty much any player or football team. But I do agree with any abuse thrown at the Mail.
  23. What I want to see, it’s us retain our grit, determination and never give up attitude that has characterised us in the past years and just add a spark of creativity to open up teams rather than rely on our defensive strength. In short not the Portugal we saw at Euro 2008 who for all their attacking play crumbled the first time they came across a decent team with some tactical awareness.
  24. For all of you VDV admirers out there, Martin Jol denied a deal had been done. He said that Real’s offer was ridiculous. However, what would we do with yet another central midfield I’m not sure. Have him play a small part until Ballack, Deco or Lampard retire? Which shouldn’t be long now.
