  1. As two others have posted above, I too was born in 1989 and in my lifetime the club has only gone in an upward direction. Nevertheless, there have been some relatively bad moments: 1. Moscow: I felt appalling for about a week and excommunicated myself from everyone I knew for that period of time. 2. Mourinho's sacking: This happened on my 18th birthday (September 20th 2007). Suffice to say that that was undoubtedly the worst I'd ever felt on any birthday. 3. Monaco '04: The away leg, what a farce that was. I knew we'd blown it then in a year where we really should have won the Champions League. 4. January-March 2012: The darkest depth of AVB's reign. It was during this time that I started to become disillusioned with what has happening at the club; it was clear to me that many of the players simply didn't care any more. I've omitted the Ovrebo game from the list simply because I was out of the country and unable to watch the game, nor the highlights, for days. If I'd watched it it would be on the list at no.4.
  2. By attitude I was referring to his selfishness on the pitch and the fact that he never really seems to be trying out there. Rarely do you see him tracking back or busting a gut to regain possession when he's lost it. But then I suppose he is a striker really by trade so what can one realistically expect? You say that he's never given a negative interview. Well there have been many occasions where he's moaned to the press about wanting to play upfront, which is in itself an implicit criticism of Robbie's management.
  3. I don't understand what Torres is trying to achieve through these interviews, but his admission that certain players didn't care about our results last season doesn't surprise me at all. Malouda was the chief culprit, with the likes of Anelka and Sturridge not far behind. I remember being at the Bridge when we lost to Villa 3-1 on New Year's Eve; This was one of the rare occasions that made me wonder whether the players gave a sh*t at all or not. Even the ever trustworthy Frank Lampard looked lackadaisical and disinterested on that day.
  4. I think Sturridge has a lot of talent and that he could be a top quality striker. I just can't see that ever happening at Chelsea and therefore it seems inevitable to me that he'll be sold. If he could just knuckle down for a season, get his attitude right, and perform when given a chance up front then I don't think it would be impossible for him to even displace Torres as the no.1 striker. But at this moment in time, such an eventuality seems like a pipedream. It would be a shame to lose such a good English talent, but sadly that is what will happen.
  5. How I would love to see Yaya Toure running our midfield! IMO the best centre-mid in the Premiership, and probably the best box-to-box player in world football. However, we'd never sign him, and given that he's 29 already and would cost £40m+, I'd pass. I definitely want us to sign another dynamic centre-mid though, just not sure who it could realistically be.
  6. In light of Nigeria's qualification to the ACON, I think we will need to sign a DM because JOM will be away for that month. That would leave us with only Romeu, Lampard and Ramires. Bare in mind that we play a silly amount of games in December this season due to the Club World Cup and so it wouldn't surprise me if one of our CM's picked up an injury. In short, we will need more cover at DM, which to me is a position that we're light in currently anyway, given the Meireles' departure and Essien's loan. As far as the striker situation goes, if Sturridge is willing to stay as the backup for the rest of the season then I'm happy to go with him and Torres, with Moses being able to function in an emergency. However, if there's a chance that we can sign Falcao in January, I would do it, simply because leaving him until the summer will inevitably increase the competition for his signature.
  7. Edit: Also Torres has historically been unable to perform alongside another striker. Liverpool tried playing Robbie Keane alongside him which didn't work at all. The Torres+Drogba combination didn't either for us. In fact, Munich was the only time that either had scored for us when both were on the pitch at the same time.
  8. That wouldn't happen. RDM is quite set on the 4231 it seems, and with the personnel we have in our squad currently we almost have to play that formation. That aside, I just can't see how those 2 could work together as a pair.
  9. Falcao and Torres wouldn't be able to co-exist as Falcao would displace Torres from the first team. After having been in Drogba's shadow for a year and a half, Torres has made it clear that he will not be a back up any more.
  10. IMO there is definitely an anti-Chelsea bias in parts of the media. As Tommy noted above, there are multiple reasons for the unparalleled scrutiny which we receive. There was one game a few years back which demonstrated this to me most vividly. It was in Ancelotti's firsty year, ManU away where we needed to win or our title challenge would have essentially been over. There were 2 dodgy goals scored in that game. One of them was by Macheda, who handled the ball multiple times before bundling it in, yet the media totally ignored this. In fact, all the post match focus was on the offside goal that Drogba had scored before this. Yet it actually wouldn't have made any difference anyway if the refs had disallowed the Macheda goal as they should have. Also after the Stoke game recently all the pundits on MOTD wanted to talk about was Oscar's dive. If that had been United, they would have been raving about they "dug in" and put in a "champions' performance" by grinding it out with a late winner. All in all, as Tommy outlined above, it just seems as though the media are obsessed with picking even the smallest, most inconsequential holes in everything good that our club does.
  11. I'm suprised that some wouldn't want Falcao. He's the best striker on the planet, simple as that and would be a significant upgrade on Torres. I'd like him to prove me wrong, but I really feel that Torres will ultimately prevent our team from reaching its potential. In my honest opinion, if there is any chance of striking a deal in January, then we should press ahead and get Falcao signed. He could really be the difference between winning the title or not. Naturally, if we were to sign Falcao, then Torres would have to be sold.
  12. I've managed to bag a ticket to Spurs away next weekend and am buzzing for it already! I've been away 5 or so times to the Stokes and Wigans of the world but nothing as big as this, can't wait! Was just wondering, where do our fans generally go before WHL? Is there a Chelsea-designated pub around there? Or do people just go to the same places as on a home day and then just hop on the tube? I'm thinking of probably staying around SW6 and then heading up. Seven Sisters is one of the most hideous places I've ever been to and I don't really want to be in a Spurs pub around there.
  13. I can honestly say that was one of the most underwhelming 5-0 victories I've ever seen. But job done, so whatever.
  14. Moses could do a job, but you have a point to be fair. Nevertheless, couldn't help but laugh at the Borini news.
  15. HAHA LOL and it just keeps getting better for Liverpool! Imagine if Suarez gets the ban that he deserves for consistent diving, they'll have to play Downing up front or maybe even beg West Ham to get Carroll back...
  16. Guys, a lot of Sopcast related questions have answers on the wiziwig forums.
  17. I'll gladly take a draw, but we haven't won there since 2005 so its about time that changed. We are superior to them in every department, so if we're firing on all cylinders we should win. However, you can bet your bottom dollar that AVB will fire his team up for this, and the Spurs fans are usually on good form when we come to their place. Will be a cracking game, and as I said, a point wouldn't be a bad result at all. Haven't got the ticket yet for sure but looks like I'll be going. I've never been to WHL before on an awayday, so was wondering what pubs we generally go to beforehand? Or is just the same routine as for the home games but with a longer tube journey?
  18. Taylor and Coloccini were out, they can't defend without them.
  19. Guys have a look at what Suarez got up to today. What a despicable t*sser: http://ballsdot.wpengine.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/suarezgif.gif
  20. The creative 3 were all very good, but Mata was the best. He is in unreal form, best player in the premiership currently.
  21. I really cannot fathom how Mata isn't in the Spain squad. On current form, he's the best player in the Premier League.
  22. Terrific performance today from everyone. Credit where it's due Norwich scored a good goal, sadly one of Lamps or Mikel fell asleep and wasn't there to challenge Holt. The reaction was excellent. Some great finishes today, Mata was simply majestic. How Spain don't have room for him in their squad is beyond me. I also thought Oscar again showed some great flashes of his incredible potential. Lampard followed up a much improved performance in midweek with another great showing today. Torres took his goal well but really should have scored when he was through. Ivanovic would have put it away for sure!
  23. It's the moronic manner of it, the hashtag. There are more considered ways to voice your displeasure. Don't you think the #BUNCHOFTWATS bit might be met with a ban? So that will be another one of our key defenders suspended. And what of our club's reputation?
  24. Let's face it, Ashley Cole signing up to Twitter was never going to be a good idea.
