Arshavin In The Winter ?
Sub-standard teams like Villareal, Marseille, Leverkusen, Bayern Munich & Rangers? I could understand your point if they'd got to the final by playing teams from Malta, Luxembourg & Slovenia, but they clearly didn't. I think 27 is too old for an over-rated and extremely over-priced player. Arshavin just isn't good enough, and at 27 he's not likely to improve much either.

Boyd: I Won't Play For Burley Again
Sorry mate, but I don't think the 4-5-1 was working at all in the first half - weird how people see games differently - so you're clearly wrong ;) :D I thought McFadden was a far bigger threat than Maloney, but by full-time I'd say that Scott Brown was probably Scotland's MOM. I don't believe that Maloney or Robson are good enough to play for Scotland, I'd far rather see Steve Naismith given a chance (no bias there at all!), and I reckon Steve Fletcher is destined to do well. There are some decent young Scottish players around, but I'm beginning to worry that George Burley is already undoing all the good work that Walter Smith & Alex McLeish put in.

Boyd: I Won't Play For Burley Again
The general consensus seems to be that Burley should have started with a 4-4-2, not a negative 4-5-1. I know it improved once Burley changed it, but it was the fact that he took McFadden off that really annoyed people. McFadden was probably the best Scottish player on the pitch up till then, and I just can't understand him being taken off - especially as the ineffective Robson and Maloney (*) were left on. I also don't understand why Iwelumo was given his debut in such an important game. If it was a friendly match it would make sense, but to chuck him into a World Cup Qualifier alongside Steve Fletcher beggars belief. I like Fletcher and think he's a very promising player, but he needed an experienced player alongside him yesterday, and that player was Boyd. I agree that calling for Burley to be sacked already is ridiculous - but he definitely made some bad decisions yesterday. (*) - the fact that both these lemons play for Septic is mere coincidence! ;)

Arshavin In The Winter ?
From what I've seen of Arshavin, he seems pretty over-rated - and he's not exactly a youngster either. As coco says, the one position we're short in is a striker, though I hasten to add I can't possibly agree that Owen would be the answer - he makes Darren Anderton look like Mr.T (Owen that is, not coco) ;) My preference would be Huntelaar, he's young, strong, and as far as I'm aware, not cup-tied. Even if he is cup-tied I don't care - he'd still be an excellent signing for the rest of the league season and indeed for the future.

Boyd: I Won't Play For Burley Again
Err, he never said that - he said he wouldn't play for Burley anymore, but made it very clear that he hopes to play for Scotland again. So it seems pretty obvious that the problem is a personal one between Boyd & Burley. Like I said, none of us know what might have been going on behind the scenes - I personally think there's more to it than the substitution decision. No matter what the reasons are for Boyd's decision, he's well within his rights to refuse to play for a manager at international level if he doesn't want to - a player isn't contracted to play for an international side like he is with his club.

Boyd: I Won't Play For Burley Again
I can understand him being pissed off with Burley - yesterday the Scottish manager chose to put on an unproven striker in a World Cup Qualifier (who then proceeded to miss an embarrassingly easy chance), rather than play Boyd who has proved time and again that he's capable of scoring at that level. I think it goes a bit deeper than just that though - Burley also took off the best Scottish player on the park yesterday (McFadden) for no good reason. There's either a lot of sh*t going on behind the scenes, or Burley just isn't up to the job. On a similar note, I'd love to see the entire Chelsea/England contingent withdraw from future England games, as their efforts certainly aren't appreciated by the majority of England's fans - yesterdays booing of Ashley Cole after just one mistake was a disgrace, but sadly, not totally unexpected. Maybe if Lampard, Ashley, Joey, JT & Bridgey all packed in playing for England the fans might actually realise just how much they contribute. Never gonna happen, but I can dream.... :) Oh, and Gem - "a player with the stature of David Beckham"??????? B) :) :) ;)

England V Kazakhstan
I listened to the game on BBC Radio 5Live, and from what I heard the crowd weren't too impressed with Burley's decisions, firstly to take off the best player on the park, McFadden, and then to bring on Iwelumo when he had a proven goalscorer on the bench in the shape of Kris Boyd. They booed those decisions at the time of the substitutions and again at the end of the game. They never once booed Iwelumo though, which is as it should be - it's not his fault he's crap, but what the f*ck was Burley thinking??? :)

England V Kazakhstan
You're spot on Gem. The commentator was clearly orgasmic at the thought of Beckham providing a cross which led to an England goal, but not once was it mentioned that Lampard provided the corner and the free-kick for the first two goals, even at the time! Lampard's not my favourite player by a long chalk, but credit where it's due, he did the business tonight and yet again it wasn't mentioned.

England V Kazakhstan
Agree 100%, Lofty. The booing of Ashley Cole was an embarrassment - he made one mistake and the crowd turned on him - and it wasn't just a few either. Along with the previous booing of Lampard, this proves beyond doubt that there's a hell of a lot of w**kers who "support" England. Before anyone jumps on me, I know there's a lot of decent England fans who would have been just as angry about it as I am. I can't think of one England player who actually performed well tonight, yet strangely it's only the Chelsea contingent who ever get any stick. Watching on ITV, it was pretty clear why this might be - every time Lampard made a mistake, the commentator picked up on it straight away, yet whenever Gerrard/Ferdinand/Rooney f*cked up, it wasn't mentioned (apart from once in the first half, when the commentator must have been so embarrassed he felt he had to say something).

The Shed End - Greatest Films Of All Time.

Sad Songs Say It So Much
Naah, relax Tim, if I started posting all the sad songs I liked I'd be here forever. With this in mind I decided to post just one sad song which epitomised all sad songs everywhere - "Kev's Courting Song" by Kevin Bloody Wilson, but for some reason it won't load on here, tragic really...

Where can I find ESPN Classic? Nibs - I know what you mean about Hollins' management f*ck ups, but in fairness he was one of our best and most consistent players for well over 10 years.

Chelsea And The Media Again !
I know the clip you mean, and it's true, Chelsea got the blame (as usual). I used to enjoy going to WHL as it was always lively, but you had to be careful not to get seperated from your mates, as the N17 scum were experts at picking off lone away fans. That was another reason I always hated them, they were the most cowardly mob in the country in my opinion. They could never decide on which was their home end either - one season it was the Park Lane, the next it was the Paxton, after that The Shelf - very confusing! Some people who watch old clips from WHL in the early 70's may wonder why the terracing behind the Park Lane goal was pulled back to create a bigger gap - the reason? Spuds fans threw a dart at an opposing goalkeeper, I still remember the pictures in the papers the next day of the keeper being helped off the pitch with a dart sticking out of his head. C*nts! Mind you, they weren't alone in this kind of thing - most northern clubs used to throw darts, bricks, bottles, and all kinds at away fans, and the police never did anything to stop it. Seen it at Middlesbrough, Leeds, Sheff.Utd, Sheff.Utd, Man.City & even Huddersfield - yet we always got the blame.

Chelsea And The Media Again !
That is so true, really f*ckin' annoys me! A few hundred Chelsea fans got in the ground and were battered by the ever cowardly Tottenham fans who outnumbered them at least twenty to one. I was one of the thousands of Chelsea fans who couldn't get in the ground that day, but as you say, we kicked the f*ck out of 'em after the game. Happy memories of the true story at least ;)

I've never yet managed to sit through 'Dr.Zhivago', I'd thoroughly recommend it for anyone suffering from insomnia.

Boredom Threshold
Totally agree with ethicalstrategy regarding Star Wars. I've only ever seen the first 10 minutes of the first Star Wars movie, and that was 10 minutes too long. I got so pissed off with the gay robots I didn't pursue the movie any further, and from what I've seen from various clips over the years I made the right choice. I thoroughly enjoyed "Porky's", a really funny film, but the sequel, "Porky's 2" (how original!) was absolute sh*te. I sat watching it waiting for it to improve, but it never did - a real disappointment.

Is it my imagination or does Mick Jagger's performance there make Boy George look butch?
