  1. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/queens-park-rangers/9801632/Joey-Barton-and-former-Liverpool-and-Man-City-midfielder-Dietmar-Hamann-in-frankly-hilarious-Twitter-altercation.html Par for course with Barton, but I'm surprised Hamann allowed himself to get dragged into that. Barton has nothing to lose in those situations, it's not like people are gonna think any less of him, that's impossible.
  2. Kompany's red card rescinded. Proper decision and good news for tackling in the game.
  3. I wouldn't, and I'm not just saying that to be argumentative. You mentioned intent, and Kompany's only intent is to win the ball. His eyes are on the ball the whole time and he times it perfectly to ensure he gets the ball and the ball only. But it all comes down to interpretation of the rulebook and whether or not Kompany was reckless or dangerous (the tackle being two footed is actually irrelevant though most refs will treat them as dangerous). The ref has deemed it reckless and dangerous and in all likelihood the appeal will fail. While I feel dangerous and reckless tackles need to be wiped out, I'd hate to see all physicality driven out of the game as a result. There's far too many soft free kicks given as it is without people getting sent off when they have, in my opinion, done nothing wrong.
  4. In the last few days I've seen Argo, Lincoln and Django Unchained. I thought Argo would be better. It was good, but not worthy of the high praise it got in my opnion. Lincoln is good. Daniel Day Lewis is predictably brilliant and should secure another Oscar. Django is typical Tarrantino, and I mean that in a good way. Christoph Waltz and Leonardo DiCaprio are really good in this. A lot of the shoot out scenes are a bit over the top and stupid, but it's something you'd expect in a Tarantino movie. Special mention also for some really funny scenes, particularly featuring Samuel L. Jackson.
  5. I don't see it at reckless. He hasn't lunged at Wilshere and his feet haven't made any contact with Wilshere either. It's Wilshere's own momentum that takes him into Kompany. The red card should be rescinded, but I doubt it will.
  6. Mike Dean got 1 decision wrong and that was the red card for Kompany. Everything else was spot on. Arsenal, Wilshire apart, were sh*te and City should have hammered them. Sturridge looked good and lively for Liverpool today. I think Liverpool's coming back into the game was more down to United easing off more than anything else. That was another match where if they really went for it they could have put up a much more comprehensive score. Also, how the hell did Welbeck get man of the match? I thought he was poor and wasted some really good chances in the first half. Sturridge was a far bigger threat in his 45 minutes than Welbeck was all game.
  7. Not really. He wrongly booked Ba for diving (the correct decision would have been a goal kick) and Ba was unlucky to have a goal ruled out for offside, that would be on the linesman rather than the ref. Other than that there was no major decision for him to make really.
  8. First and foremost, well done Swansea. Defensively they were very good and very disciplined, the second half especially. Although we did play into their hands for most of that half. As for us, the longer that second half went on the less confident I felt about us scoring. We were aimless, had no urgency in our play and generally looked clueless about how to break Swansea down. As for Torres, it's not that he did anything wrong tonight that's the problem, he didn't do anything full stop. Ba had more of an influence in his brief period and it simply came down to urgency and movement. Terrible decision to book him btw. Should have been a goal kick and nothing more. Whatever about anything else, whatever about Rafa's team selection or formation or subs, if an experienced defender makes 2 major mistakes like Ivanovic did, there's not much he can do about it. But still, Rafa out please. Can we turn things around? Absolutely. But it will take a big effort to do so. And Ba starting up front.
  9. Monumental f**k up between Ivanovic and Turnbull aside, we've done alright in that half. Luiz has been immense in midfield. Better finishing and better final balls should have seen us a few goals up. Only change I would look for Rafa to make, either at half time or early second half, is Ba for Torres.
  10. I'll do a Dutch team but as before, I'll stick to players I've actually seen play. ---------Van Der Sar------ Reiziger--Stam--De Boer--Cocu ---------Davids--Gullit------ Overmars--Bergkamp--Van Persie ------------Kluivert--------- Not sure how it would work out as a team to be honest. I was stuck for a left back so I went with Cocu there, midfield would be a better use of him but that's the way it worked out. The only other option was van Bronckhorst but I never really rated him.
  11. I laughed when the scousers were enraged by Torres' comments when he joined us, especially Phil Thompson almost crying over it on SSN. The funny thing about it then was his comments were somewhat twisted. He hadn't said anything about Chelsea being bigger, just that there was no level above them (I took that to mean that there is no level above challenging for the league and being in the Champions League) or something to that affect. Anyway, I'm not fussed in the least bit about his comments. He'll have the scousers w**king over those comments and I won't begrudge them their highlight of the season.
  12. Messi was always gonna win player of the year, so no surprise there. As for the XI, the midfield and attack are obvious choices and no issues there, but the back line? The only one with any kind of argument is Ramos, the other 3 should be nowhere near it.
  13. While I think we'll be ok with him so long as we continue to qualify for the Champions League and generally be competitive, I wouldn't be as confident as some that he'd definitely stay. In his short time at the club he has already played under 3 different managers, and come the start of next season, it will be 4 (hopefully). Now I don't know how he feels about it, I'm merely speculating, but I wouldn't blame him if he got sick of everything that goes on here and moves on, even if it isn't to Barca or Madrid. Like I said already though, I don't think we have much cause for concern.
  14. Nice vid. Those 2 goals against Liverpool were absolute class. He didn't quite live up to expectations, but I wouldn't say he flopped.
  15. Shevchenko was doing well for Milan before he joined us, 19 league goals and 9 CL goals the season before. Torres had been struggling since the World Cup before his transfer (his performance against us aside of course). But back on topic. My top 10 in no particular order: Torres Shevchenko Boulahrouz Ben Haim Mutu SWP Veron Pizarro Sidwell Maniche
  16. It was Drogba that gave the trophy to Roman in Munich, not RDM.
  17. I got 32. There was a few I would never have thought of, like Nakata. I knew he was a big star for Japan but I didn't think he would have moved for such money back then. I presume it was his move to Roma.
  18. They showed the final in its entirety last night on SS1. I caught extra time and pens only. Missed Drogba's equaliser by a few minutes :( But anyway, despite knowing the outcome I still felt tense during the shoot out, and the same joy watching the winning pen. Edit- Just realised I posted past midnight, so when I say last night I mean they showed it on Sunday night.
  19. I had to laugh when Fergie was suggesting that RVP might have been killed. Don't get me wrong, it was a dirty thing for Williams to do and Fergie & RVP have a right to be angry, but to say something like that is outrageous. He said it was the most dangerous thing he's seen in football for many years. I wonder where something like a kung fu kick to the chest (like Evans on Drogba) ranks among his dangerous things seen in football list.
  20. His performance was typified by a moment in around the 41 min mark when Lampard took a shot and their keeper parried it to his right. Torres was around the edge of the box and had ample time to get to the ball either before or at the same time as the defender that cleared it. Instead of busting a gut to get there and trying to make some kind of goal scoring chance, Torres was slowly walking AWAY from the ball while looking back at it. It was unbelievable. I had to rewind and re-watch it to make sure I wasn't seeing things. I'm far from a Torres basher, but if he's not gonna try and make something from a parry from a keeper there isn't much hope for the guy is there?
  21. That's a bit disrespectful towards Swansea. They are a good side and we didn't have the best of times against them last time out in the league (or the time before that either come to think of it).
  22. I'll give it a go, but will only add players I've seen play, so it will only be players from the last 20 years or so. ------------Peter Schmeichel------------ Cafu---Fabio Cannavaro---Alessandro Nesta---Paulo Maldini ------------Fernando Redondo------------ -----Zinedine Zidane---Pavel Nedved----- Cristiano Ronaldo---------------------- Lionel Messi ----------------Ronaldo----------------
  23. He wasn't celebrating in front of the City fans, he was in front of the United fans. The coin came from his left side, where the City fans are. 2-2 would have been a fair result on the balance of play, but United did have a goal wrongly ruled out earlier. I'm happier with a United win than a City one. I dislike them a little bit less than City.
  24. Diving is cheating, and so is going down easy under slight contact. Until retrospective punishment is brought in for this it will continue to happen. Carzola deserves dogs abuse for that and so does anyone else that does it (and I know that will include Chelsea players who've done it and they too deserve abuse for doing it). I'm not advocating a return to the old days of "hard men" getting away with outrageous tackles and players just generally kicking the sh*t out of each other. I'm just saying it should be demanded that the players cut out the diving and cheating and should be punished when caught. The same should be true of players who commit dangerous fouls and/or deliberately try to hurt or injure others.
  25. You make a fair point, but the problem with ignoring him would be that it my be interpreted as him winning us over. Now the media can spin things however they want and I still won't care what they say, and I care even less about what rival fans would think, but I would be very afraid that the clowns above Rafa would think that we would be ok with him being here long term.
