  1. Too early to say I'm excited about next season. I'm sure in the next few weeks when we find out who our manager will be and who's coming & going I'll start to get excited. Until then the only thing I'm looking forward to is the end of this season and finally being rid of Benitez. And to be honest it's not just about Benitez himself, I'm very much looking forward to the Scouse w**kfest moving on to the whatever club he's going to, where they'll bleat on about how lucky they are to have him and all that sh*te.
  2. Another trophy, another piece of history. The performance was far from perfect, but in the end everyone played their part in securing the win. Cech made important saves and was solid. The backline got in plenty of crucial blocks and clearances and withstood Benfica's onslaught. Ramires' passing and decision making was poor all game but still he caused them problems and won the all important corner. Torres did well tonight, made the most of limited service and did brilliantly for the goal. It's not a case now of "he's back!!" or "hopefully he'll kick on", instead it's simply a case of acknowledging a good performance and nothing more. It would have been a thing of beauty for Lampard's shot to be the winning goal, but I'm more than happy to settle for that incredible header from Brana. It was like slow motion watching it go in. I'm delighted for him especially after he missed the final last year. And finally, the fact that JT is getting people all wound up again over his wearing of the kit (for some reason he's the only one not allowed to do it) and lifting the trophy is the icing on the cake. At this point it's funny because it's so pathetic.
  3. If there's one positive from that half, it's that it's still 0-0. Actually there might be a second one, we can only improve from here, surely?
  4. I think you may have taken that line out of context. I'm open to correction but I think ducavis was saying that you don't see them beat their man and then whip in the early cross, instead taking an extra touch or two, slowing the whole thing down. Something of a fair point too, but the counter to it would be there's little point whipping in an early cross given the lack of numbers and movement in the box that we've seen all too often this season.
  5. It doesn't matter, those games are irrelevant regardless of who's in charge. If it is Rafa then he can rotate and make all the crazy substitutions he wants. There's only 3 games that he can f**k up left.
  6. I dunno, I think after last time he said that the pre-announcement was a mistake and that he wouldn't do it again. I don't have the exact words but it was something along those lines. If it is true, then we need to get the Rafa to United campaign going.
  7. I don't really understand the point you're trying to make. Are you saying if you're fanbase isn't x amount you don't deserve to be in the Premier League? Wigan are no more or no less deserving of PL status than any other club in the league. If you get the job done and finish outside the relegation zone you deserve your place. If you're in the Championship and do enough to get promoted, you too deserve a place. That's it.
  8. A Wigan win tomorrow means there will be just 3 points between 11th and 18th. I would say squeaky bum time, but I'd say it's far worse than that for those involved.
  9. Well said. Also worth keeping in mind there's only approx. 80,000 people in Wigan and also there's how close they are to Liverpool & Manchester and, as already said, rugby league is the big sport there, they do well support wise. It won't bother me if they do get relegated, but I'd like to see them stay up. The only team I would say I dislike in the dogfight at the moment is Stoke.
  10. It looked to me like it was going wide until the deflection, the keeper touched it onto the post.
  11. That made me smile. It was a crap game but we got what we needed. The Luiz thing is gonna be blown out of proportion by the hacks in the media and opposition fans, but it really, really isn't a big deal. He's probably laughing, as someone already mentioned here, in a "wtf was that?" kind of way or else laughing at someone in the crowd. The red card is shown after the laugh so that's not what it is. And there is no way the Ramires tackle on Rooney was a foul.
  12. It's tough to call. Wigan have Swansea mid week and they've been poor since the Carling Cup final so it's a good chance for Wigan to pick up 3 points. If they do, then Sunderland and Newcastle are in serious trouble. Relegated or not I doubt Pardew will be Newcastle manager next season.
  13. That's why he's 3rd choice keeper. Heartbreaking for Watford.
  14. Messi benched tonight. An early Barca goal, or 2, could make things exciting, but they still need 5 to get through and it'll be at least 6 if Bayern score, something they are fairly certain to do. I'll go 2-1 Barca on the night.
  15. Both sides were guilty of missing good chances tonight. Unfortunately for Madrid the first goal, which really got them going, came too late. Ronaldo had an off night, with Ozil & Di Maria also very sloppy at times. The better side over the 2 legs went through. Tomorrow night could follow a similar pattern. An early Barca goal could make things very interesting. But it'll take an epic Barca performance, coupled with an epic Bayern collapse, to prevent an all German final.
  16. That own goal on Saturday might be very costly for Wigan. Like others here I like them and am hoping they stay up. Of course, they're not out of it yet. They have a game in hand and play Villa on the last day. But there's 2 tricky trips to West Brom and Arsenal to negotiate first. My fantasy football points got a nice boost with my Lukaku-Benteke frontline
  17. I'd prefer to face them when they have nothing to play for. But it would be sweet to beat them to stop them getting it. As long as Arsenal don't win today I'm happy.
  18. I've gone with Luiz. Thought he was excellent. Honourable mentions to Cahill and Lampard.
  19. For the top 4 chase yes, but I don't want United getting the record points total. So a draw is what I'm hoping for.
  20. Job done. Did what was needed and Lamps is 1 closer to the record. A draw in the other game will go down nicely.
  21. Williams is a very lucky boy. With our luck, he'll probably score 2 in injury time now.
