Mohammed Diame might just be a bargain
Fellaini, Vidal, Inler, De Rossi, Marchisio, M'Vila and Moutinho off the top of my head. All would be more expensive than Diame no doubt, but we already have Romeu, Mikel, Essien, Lampard, McEacheran and Ramires as CM's, we don't need another decent player, we need a top class player and yes that does cost money.

Paulinho
Haven't seen much of him, but from what i've heard hes probably the best player at the CWC not in our squad, will be keen to see him. Then again Neymar was a complete no show last year against Barca.

Smearing spreading Mirror
It really is hilarious how we're being slandered for events not in the slightest related to our club anymore, next thing you know they'll find out that the pitch invader has an uncle that lives in west London and suddenly the entire thing was our fault.

what if...
What if (and i'm not suggesting this is going to happen because he had two good games against inferior opposition), but what if the FSW somehow does get Torres scoring consistently again. a) Do you think we'll still pursue a new striker in Jan and b) Do you think if FSW can get 25 goals out of him this season, Roman would keep him on on a longer term basis? It hadn't really occurred to me earlier, but if Torres actually does start scoring again, considering Roman has shown he values him far more than any manager, he might keep on the FSW just for his benefit? Scary times.

Torres - The "Groundhog Day" Thread
yeh fair enough i put that the wrong way, with or without munich he would have been a legend, but now that will always be remembered as his defining moment, while without that people would always remember the CL was the only trophy he never won, and then you think back to that night in moscow and that silly red.. i feel like the CL run made him the greatest player in our history, without it he was still one of the all time greats though.

Would we have viewed Drogba differently...
I was watching a documentary about it and Drogba said that Cesc had told him that he'd dived. edit: He would have been a legend regardless because of his other performances in big games, and banging in so many goals on our way to league titles, a lot of them being true stunners, but winning the CL in his last game has really turned him from a legend to some sort of mythical hero, I mean really who wins the champions league with their last kick of the ball, mfw.

Torres - The "Groundhog Day" Thread
there were a lot of times when drogba really annoyed me, there were games where he clearly just didn't give a toss and would walk around with a surly expression not dissimilar to the one torres has most of the time of course all was forgiven in munich

Hazard Unfairly Targeted By Refs ?
I realise thats the rules, but a lot of the time you see a player go down after hes taken a heavy touch (torres) and even if he is fouled, normally the ref won't blow the whistle because more often than not its because the player has realized hes lost the ball and goes down under any touch, hence why i've seen a lot of fouls not given in the box.

Following our nearest and dearest rivals
ordinarily i would have been sympathetic to the player, but theres only one rio ferdinand.

Hazard Unfairly Targeted By Refs ?
oh well Ramires got one on the weekend which at first glance didn't look like a pen to me as it seemed he'd already lost control of the ball, although on replay it looked correct

MOTM vs Sunderland
For perhaps the first time ever, I can honestly say Torres was our best player on the field.

The return of Sheva? Yes you read that right.
I think if this was a ploy to appease the fans, he really does have no idea about what the fans want can think of many great past players over the past decade i'd rather see come in and do some coaching!

The return of Sheva? Yes you read that right.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2244284/Andriy-Shevchenko-join-Chelsea-coach.html Andriy Shevchenko could be handed a role within Chelsea's coaching set-up. The recently retired Ukrainian has spent considerable time at the club's Cobham training base as he works towards qualifying for his coaching badges. And owner Roman Abramovich has held talks with the 36-year-old about a role at Stamford Bridge. The Russian is close to Shevchenko and sanctioned his £31million transfer in 2006. Shevchenko never came close to his AC Milan form in a Chelsea shirt and left the club on loan to the Italian giants in 2008. Chelsea have a habit of bringing back former players to play coaching or managerial roles. Former player Bolo Zenden recently joined the club as an assistant to new manager Rafael Benitez. Eddie Newton and Benitez's predecessor Roberto Di Matteo were also former Chelsea players before they rejoined in a staff capacity. ---------------------------------------- Thought you'd seen the end of him eh? Thoughts on his return as a coach?

falcao or higuain stuff, but more importantly, a tenuous link to klopp!
I agree on Klopp, he'd be my 2nd choice to Jose in our next manager. No doubt Pep is a quality manager but hes unproven in an environment where the players aren't already there for him, or just without Messi in general. Klopp built a great term and unearthed a lot of stars, plays smart tactically and his team can beat anyone in the world on their day. I'd be very excited about him.

Is it time to look at a new captain?
Right well i disagree with a lot of whats been said on here but i might also be completely wrong. Looking back at who have been the best captains in the EPL; JT, Keane, Viera, Adams. The one thing all these people have in common is that they would do anything, week in week out anything, to get their team the victory. This didn't make them very popular with opposing fans but they became beloved by their own supporters for their willingness to put their bodies on the line. Here's my problem with each of the people that have been recommended on here: Mata: He's too much of a nice guy. Granted he's shown that hes the sort of player that can save big games (corner in the CL final, free kick + winner against Arsenal, comeback vs spurs, etc.), but I think that's down to his own individual brilliance as a player, and not down to him inspiring the rest of the team. On top of that, he already carries the majority of the creative and attacking burden for the team, and pretty much every move flows through him. To put the extra responsibility of captain on him would be too much and I don't think would be a good idea. Cech: A true legend, and in games like against Barca and Bayern where we're camped around the box for large periods of the game, I think he'd be a great captain. But in those games when we're struggling to break down opposition and we need someone to step up and inspire the team, he's too far away from it all, and this has been evident in our leader-less performances this season without JT or Lamps. Personally I would have preferred Ash to be the 3rd choice captain because he always seems to be very vocal and is all over the pitch. Ivanovic: Probably one of the best candidates right now, but he is prone to lapses of concentration that have cost us in the past. The main problem with him is the same as the problem with Cahill for me, and that is that neither of them are guaranteed starters. I think Cesar's performances this season have shown he's surely going to be our first choice RB in future, and hes already looking like a young Ash (on the other side ofc) with his great pace, ability to defend and attack, and rarely gets bettered in a 1 on 1 situation. This being said, I think Iva's future will be as a rotation player as he can play in 3 of the 4 defence spots and will probably be used to give each of them rests throughout the season. Also considering by the time JT's contract expires he'll be 29 going on 30, I think it's too late for him. Luiz: I rate him as a player a lot more than a lot of people on here do, but I don't consider him to have leadership qualities. Granted he does seem to really love the team and is a very popular figure which I think would make him a good leader off the pitch, but on the pitch I feel like he has a hard enough time keeping himself focused let alone having to worry about everyone else. But by the time JT leaves he may have matured enough and his English would be better, so while I don't think hes suitable right now, give it a year or two and possibly. Cahill: I think the only reason everyone thinks he'd be a good captain is because he's tall and English and plays at Centre back, and looks a bit like JT. I've yet to see any evidence of his leadership qualities, although if he was made captain presumably it would be because behind the scenes he's already shown to possess them. The other problem is that he's not a guaranteed starter, which your captain has to be. So after pooping on all the suggestions i don't even have any constructive advice, because right now no-one (except Frankie and Ash) are worthy of taking over from JT, and both will likely be gone before him. Hopefully Luiz can show he is worthy of it in the next 2 years but right now hes a no for me, there is no-one in our squad under the age of 30 that has that dogged personality of those captains i mentioned at the start, and is also a first team starter. Perhaps Ramires but I don't know how good his english is. Stuff it, just give it to Nando, he was captain of Atletico at 19 so he knows what hes doing.

Tactical changes making a difference?
These certainly worked against nordsjaelland but only time will tell if he continues to use these tactics in harder games, and whether they work.

Eden Hazard's first English paper interview
I like that most if not all of our squad are really likable characters. Can't imagine myself liking someone like Rooney or Scholes or Tevez because they're all just detestable.

Chelsea v Bayern Munich (CL Final) 19/05/12 KO 19:45 BST
ah nice one mate, I only found out theres a decent sized group of chelsea fans that watch the big games at a pub in the city a few months after this, been out there to watch the games against arsenal and united, wish i could have been with some other CFC fans to watch the final.
