Posted July 2, 200915 yr Its Turnbull. 4 year deal on a free from Boro. http://www.chelseafc.com/page/LatestNews/0...1711898,00.html Interestingly Hillario has also signed a 2 year extension. No-one couldve predicted that. Anyway, best of luck Ross. Welcome to Chelsea. Edited July 2, 200915 yr by Mod
July 2, 200915 yr Hmm. I don't have an opinion one way or the other about this one. COuld turn out to be good on the long-term though. All the best to the lad! :D
July 2, 200915 yr Makes sense to have a third option given the history of injury problems we have had with keepers over the years. Also makes sense to have back up keepers who it would appear are happy being back ups as it measn we won't need to go hunting for another in the near future.
July 2, 200915 yr Interesting signing on both front....Turnbull and Hilario. Wonder what that means for Evans, as he was making some bench appearances last season

But it would be nice to have shown some faith in youth in the rare chance the third choice might play. I feel for him a little , seeing us sign a backup keeper and then give another backup keeper a contract extension will be gutting for him i expect. Anyway who do you think will be second choice ? July 2, 200915 yr A bit of loyalty would se Hilario as number two however I suspect it will be Turnbull as he has a lot more years on his side.
July 2, 200915 yr Evans who? :D Rhys Evans, young Welsh keeper currently in our reserves, and the little I have seen of Turnbull didn't show me that he offers that much more than Evans does
July 2, 200915 yr Evans left Chelsea in 2003, reserve keeper is Taylor and he's only 19 I think Turnbull is 24 or 25.
July 2, 200915 yr Ok, so take my posts and sub Taylor in for the name Evans, and you get my point. Sorry Scott, up early on teh west coast here (not by choice) and not thinking straight

July 2, 200915 yr I'm so excited by this news, I can barely breathe. Ross effing Turnbull ! Take that Real Madrid ! I bet they haven't seen that one coming.
July 2, 200915 yr It makes Zero sense giving Hilario a contract, two years at such. OK; everyone here is a new contract,This club is officially a joke.
July 2, 200915 yr The negativity around this site takes some beating. :D When the topic is what it is and all we have been discussing lately who is better Aguero or Ribery you can expect response like this. Signing Turnbull could be part of this English-born players quota as much as getting an able keeper as a back-up.. Welcome Ross, now don't screw up :D
July 2, 200915 yr Doubt we'll be seeing very much of him... I disagree. Carling Cup appearances and early FA Cup too IMO.
July 2, 200915 yr Doubt we'll be seeing very much of him... Which makes me wonder why we signed him. I'm not negative about him coming here, I hope he does well and we got him on a free so no big loss. But with Hilario still here, Taylor still here and the fact that we have "the next Petr Cech" in our ranks makes me wonder why we welcome yet another young keeper to our ranks. Admittedly, Sebek will be in the reserves, but as we've kept Hilario he'll be second choice. Then it's up to Taylor and Turnbull to battle it out for the 3rd spot in the keeper ranks? It doesn't make much sense, in my mind it is only slightly more logical than the Miniero signing. Scott
July 2, 200915 yr I'm not holding my breath, but he's still young and has showed some promise... Hopefully he'll develop into Seaman's successor at Chelsea... :P
July 2, 200915 yr I think his main use will be for Europe. We need all sorts of quota's now. 24, 6'4! English. Played 20 odd games for Boro. Lets give him a chance. Oddly I am SURE on SSN a few days back it said Hilario had been released. Yet to see who else has been cut but reserves like Cummings, Magnay and Younghusband will surely go.
July 2, 200915 yr The negativity around this site takes some beating. we only finished third and won merely the fa cup last season mate. it's tough times. personally from what I've seen he's a very erratic keeper, but 24 is very young for a keeper- many of them only really start getting recognition towards the end of their twenties. he'll be working with an outright world class keeper though, better staff and hopefully that will help spur him on. there is some talent there, though I don't think he's starting quality in any premier league side (yet). he should be fine for what we need him for- so this is a good and necessary signing.
July 2, 200915 yr Not sure if anyone has posted this but: http://www.chelseafc.com/page/LatestNews/0...1712156,00.html
