I have to admit I haven't seen the original, so I can't comment on how much they've changed the script/characters, but everyone tells me the original is far better. I did still enjoy it a lot, especially George C Scott (the cantankerous old man who only turns at the end), Armin Mueller-Stahl (the rational stockbroker), Jack Lemmon (Henry Fonda's role) and Edward James Olmos (the European watchmaker).

yes, the Henry Fonda version was excellent, but I'll try this one - the combination of George C. Scott and Jack Lemmon sounds promising!

I just saw The Hunger Games with my wife last night.

She read the book, and still thought it was pretty decent. Obviously there were some things missed, but it was a pretty good adaptation. I, not having read the book, thought it was very good.

I was surprised because I didn't have many expectations. It's not one of the greatest films I've ever seen, but it's pretty darn good and worth the price of admission.

I thought it was OK, but I'd have liked to have been given more insight into the lives of the spectators, and how this state of affairs had come about. Presumably they are going to make sequels...

I think that's fair. My wife said that they were pretty spot on about getting the story right (just some minor things here and there that were inaccurate). There were some areas that weren't as detailed as she thought they should have been. I don't want to get into details though in case others are going to see it.

I would definitely say that sequel(s) will be coming...

Quite right - let's not give the game away. The film is still worth seeing. In fact I now want to read the book sometime.

My wife says it's an excellent read and recommends the entire series.

Thanks. I'll investigate that.

Watched Inception the other night, I'm still confused!

Think I need to watch it again.

I think I understood it when I watched it, and my conclusion was that it was more about style and being obtuse than it was being sincere.

It's been a while since I've gone to the cinema. Every time I get the urge, I look at the listings and see nothing that's worth the (outrageous) price of admission. It's depressing. The only film that I wanted to see but missed, is the oddball Will Ferrell movie called Casa de mi Padre, done entirely in Spanish. A vanity project, but supposed to be funny. I have a lot of time for Ferrell's indy leanings since I saw the wonderful Stranger Than Fiction and the pretty decent Everything Must Go.

TBH I wasn't paying enough attention at the start, perhaps that would of helped!

Thanks. I'll investigate that.

The series as a whole is excellent, first YA series to have me gripped since Harry Potter. The less I say about the ending of the series the better, however...

That's a lot of money. Was it 3D? Falling asleep is never a good sign! I like Josh Whedon's Firefly series and movie, so I'm tempted to see this one.

Been looking for some good horror recently so I checked out The Innkeepers and House of the Devil.

Innkeepers was mostly good but the big payoff scene in the final section of the film felt a bit poor.

House of the Devil was incredible in how much it kept the feel of an 80's film but the great build up was again spoilt by a poor final section.

Rented Tower Heist on the cheap last night.

It's a caper movie. Bunch of guys get together, plan a big crime, dash of humor to make it light. You know, like Ocean's 11, that sort of thing.

Problem is, a caper movie needs very tight plotting. You have to be able to look back at it and see all the parts fit. In Tower Heist the plot isn't water-tight and the movie takes liberties with the laws of physics. Also, the relationships -- another foundation of a caper movie -- are a bit slapdash.

Basically, Tower Heist is a movie let down by its writing. That's a pity because the villain -- played by Alan Alda -- is nicely unlikeable.

I was interested to se that you said "Everything Must Go" is decent. It just showed up on Netflix Instant Watch not too long ago. Another movie that did is "Melancholia", which I have heard is either an amazing movie or an awful movie, not a lot in between. Hoping to get around to those soon. First however, I think I need to watch "Captain America" and "Thor" so I can get more excited about "The Avengers".

Saw The Avengers last week and thought it was amazing, you'd think having all these superheroes on one screen would be too much, but it was handled so well by Joss Whedon. Going to see it tonight again with my housemates.

Just watched "Take Shelter". I really liked it, Michael Shannon gave a great performance. Still thinking about the ending though, not quite sure what to make of it.
