July 31, 201213 yr Watched 21 Jump Street last night (on my new telly and blu ray, bloody great picture) and enjoyed it. Good buddy film with some proper laugh out loud moments. Even had a nice little cameo from the actors from the original TV series, Johhny Depp and Peter DeLuise.
July 31, 201213 yr If you mean the one with Gregory Peck, then yes and yes it was. I loved it, thought it was much better than The Exorcist, which was released around about the same time? maybe a few years apart.

I quite liked it as well, but am I the only one who thinks that the special effects in the movie are pretty crap? Looks like something out of some cheap 80's movie.
August 1, 201213 yr Steve McQueen's Hunger. If you're not familiar with the movie, it's about the last weeks of Bobby Sands' life at Long Kesh. Most of the buzz about Hunger revolves around Michael Fassbender's performance (indeed, he's brilliant) and some have accused the director of hagiography (which is nonsense, even though it's obvious that Sands is a hero of McQueen's, the movie is far more balanced than I'd have expected) but the thing that really stood out for me is how raw and powerful Hunger is. It's not forced and artificial, the emotions conjured up are genuine and result from the fact that it feels like a documentary. It's well shot and McQueen resists the urge to get cute with camera tricks. The highlight for me is a 20+ minute conversation in the middle of the movie between Sands and a Catholic priest that's done in one take. Rarely is dialogue so enthralling. Another thing that I felt added weight to the movie is that it isn't all about Sands for 100 minutes. He's not even introduced until half an hour's passed and his hunger strike only takes place during the final quarter. Needless to say, it's not a happy movie at all, but it's one that I'd highly recommend. Edited August 1, 201213 yr by That Boy Brandinho
August 1, 201213 yr I quite liked it as well, but am I the only one who thinks that the special effects in the movie are pretty crap? Looks like something out of some cheap 80's movie. I think that was intentional, since they were remaking a cheap 80's series. I thought it was pretty good, but I watched it with my girlfriend who hated it. Whenever something like that happens, it takes away from my enjoyment of the film.

August 2, 201213 yr According to the BBC World Service last night, Vertigo has overtaken Citizen Kane as the greatest movie ever. Coincidentally, it is on ITV3 tomorrow night. My wife has never seen it and, as it was made in the same year as she was, I think it is time. Anyway, general concept of "greatest film ever" - What's the forum consensus?
August 2, 201213 yr Vertigo is certainly one of my favourite films, what a masterpiece! James Stewart was also a complete legend of a man.
August 2, 201213 yr Vertigo is certainly one of my favourite films, what a masterpiece! James Stewart was also a complete legend of a man. I made my wife watch it for the first time a few years ago and she absolutely loved it. Then watched North by North West which is one of my all time favourites and she loved that too. tried it with The Big Lebowski, she didnt like that at all. Bloody philistine.
August 2, 201213 yr Watched Ted last night. Was really disappointed to be honest. Would have rather sat through 6 episodes of Family Guy. Had the odd funny moment, but the storyline dragged and was so cliche it was unreal. Also couldn't get over Ted being Peter Griffin. Would probably be more funny drunk/stoned, but if not I wouldn't recommend seeing it.
August 3, 201213 yr Vertigo is on TV tonight! ITV3 at ten past eleven. Well worth staying up for! As Dickywuh said, North By NorthWest is also a brilliant film . There is also a wonderful French film called Les Enfants Du Paradis, made in 1945 with Marcel Carné directing and Jacques Prévert (famous French poet) as scriptwriter. The title is a pun in French - Children of the Gods, as in the less well-off theatre public who sit right up in the "gods" at the theatre.
August 6, 201213 yr Saw "Sense and Sensibility" on tv today. The version with Kate Winslet, Emma Thompson, Hugh Grant and Alan Rickman. I've seen it before, but it was worth seeing again. Brilliant movie with some brilliant actors. And Alan Rickman. He took my breath away. Divine!
August 11, 201213 yr I've just watched Psycho again for the first time in donkeys years. had forgotten just how brilliant it was, and how superb Anthony Perkins acting was. It's quarter past two and I'm scared to go to bed....

August 14, 201213 yr Just came home from the viewing the Bourne legacy, thought it was awful. It's a decent action flick but it's not a Bourne movie. The trilogy felt mysterious and had an intelligent/thriller feel to it. This one just felt like one of those sequels that makes it straight to dvd. It had a strong cast which was the only plus pount but it lacked the Jason Bourne character badly. If you're a big fan of the Bourne films you'll be disappointed for sure. My worst fears have come true. Its not even the same director, producer, actor. Not the same film at all. SAD The first 3 were so good. PS the last film I watched was "The Expendables". I hadn't seen it before and I watched it because big Arnold is in the second one properly, his return to the action throne. Edited August 15, 201213 yr by Zola
August 15, 201213 yr My worst fears have come true. Its not even the same director, producer, actor. Not the same film at all. SAD The first 3 were so good. And the book was not even by the same author as the first three. Sadly, Ludlum died and Eric Van Lustbader (I kid you not) has taken up writing Bourne books (I suppose it beats having to come up with an idea of your own) These EVL Bournes are not a patch on Ludlum's originals
August 15, 201213 yr As usual they will ruin a great trilogy, pack of bar stewards. On a similar theme, I have just seen a trailer for a new "3 Stooges" movie, is nothing sacred.
August 15, 201213 yr Its not even the same director, producer, actor. Not the same film at all. SAD The first 3 were so good. The original trilogy had two directors and several different screenwriters. They did have the same actor playing Bourne, though. I think it's a good thing they changed the cast and crew for the non-Ludlum sequels. The expectations won't be quite as high. As they shouldn't be. ..."The Expendables"... ...big Arnold is in the second one properly, his return to the action throne. I'm not so sure about his return. I mean he is back(did they really have to use that joke in the trailer?) making movies, but he looked so wooden, they might as well have used an animatronic puppet. He wasn't the best actor in his prime, but he was perfect for the action roles. Right now he's so much older and he just doesn't look the part anymore.
August 16, 201213 yr It was pretty good, but not quite as good as I had heard it was. One of those types of movies. Pretty sad too, but I expected that.
August 16, 201213 yr Anyone see the trailer of Cloud Atlas? It could beat all this years movies.. Proper excited.
August 17, 201213 yr Just seen Cabin in the Woods. Really enjoyed it but it still left me oddly unsatisfied. Maybe because I wanted it to spend less time on the 'main' horror part and more on the other stuff. Well worth watching, it's fairly funny, especially if you're a fan of horror. Don't be fooled by the poster, it's a tongue in cheek parody/homage, not something gritty or especially deep. Also don't read too much about it beforehand, it's better to go in "fresh".
