January 4, 201214 yr Indeed - i can't think of a single Tom Hanks film I have ever enjoyed. P.S. Sorry, I've just remembered Philadelphia. Edited January 4, 201214 yr by moi
January 4, 201214 yr I think it's interesting that Tom Hanks has done it twice that he first starred in a historical movie and then went on to produce a television mini series about the same subject matter, and in both cases the mini series was much better. First he was in Apollo 13 and then went on to produce the mini series From the Earth to the Moon. He starred in Saving Private Ryan and then went on to produce Band of Brothers. Both are much better than the movies, although it's a bit unfair to compare feature length movies to mini series, but I'd say that most individual episodes from either of the series is more interesting than the movie that came before it. January 4, 201214 yr I agree that Hanks had made some bad ones. I like him, though. Green Mile, for example. Private Ryan is uneven, but Hanks is not. Charlie Wilson's War, Road to Perdition (god, what photography!), Cast Away, Philadelphia, A League of Their Own, Big -- he's excellent in all of those. He's his generation's Everyman. Not too handsome, not too masculine, someone we can all relate to. A very pleasant screen persona. But hey, tastes differ. No-one's universally popular.
January 4, 201214 yr Isn't Amanda Seyfried in that? If so, it might be worth sitting through all the Abba in it! I bet there's been some heavy Photoshopping to give her that body. Especially that narrow waist. I reckon they sliced out a big bit where it goes all black right behind her.
January 4, 201214 yr Road to Perdition (god, what photography!) The cinematography in that movie is very impressive indeed, but to me that's pretty much the only memorable thing the movie. It's not bad, but it's not great either.

January 4, 201214 yr Saving Private Ryan!!! First 20 minutes are the finest depiction of battle ever made in a film, IMHO.
January 4, 201214 yr I bet there's been some heavy Photoshopping to give her that body. Especially that narrow waist. I reckon they sliced out a big bit where it goes all black right behind her. No, she's just a twig.
January 5, 201214 yr First 20 minutes are the finest depiction of battle ever made in a film, IMHO. The first 20 minutes is impressive, but the rest of it is pretty mediocre. I'm glad they did the movie, though, because we might have not seen Band of Brothers(at least not done in same the style as it was) without it.
January 5, 201214 yr The Natural was on TV tonight. Love that film. It's as cliche as it gets, but sometimes you gotta get past being pretentious and enjoy something for what it is.
January 5, 201214 yr Interesting! I'd never even heard of that one. I had to google it to find out it was a Robert Redford film. I'll give it a try some time.
January 5, 201214 yr You'll have definitely seen it parodied. The music is particularly widely known. Good film though, you sound a wee bit excited about the fact that it's a Robert Redford film. Did you have a bit of a thing for him back in the day moi?
January 5, 201214 yr Yes, when he was younger - like in the Sting or Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid or even Sneakers - but as time when on he increasingly had himself filmed with sunsets behind him etc to make himelf look good! A film of his I particularly disliked was The Horse Whisperer!

January 5, 201214 yr The first 20 minutes is impressive, but the rest of it is pretty mediocre. Again, I agree.
January 6, 201214 yr Just watched "Midnight in Paris" and I really enjoyed it. Definitely in my top 10 of the year (that post coming soon!)
January 6, 201214 yr Just watched "Midnight in Paris" and I really enjoyed it. Definitely in my top 10 of the year (that post coming soon!) Watched it last night and completely agree. Its one of my top 5 this year.(no post coming though!) The central idea of the movie is one which I had always pondered over in free time (like between two Chelsea games) and discussed with a few pals. Its about how we perceive a different period of time, a different era to be better, more beautiful than the present.
January 6, 201214 yr Watched Rango and Kung Fu Panda 2, two very good animated movies. Rango was probably the best out of the two, very good story and great voice acting from Depp. And for people who think that animated movies are just for kids, its not!
January 6, 201214 yr Was gutted National Lampoons Christmas Vacation wasnt on tv over xmas, its an absolute classic.
January 6, 201214 yr Yea I was looking for that too, it normally is on. I just put the DVD on in the end, its not Christmas without it.
January 6, 201214 yr ....people who think that animated movies are just for kids... People who think that animated movies are just for kids, simply don't know what they are talking about. Many of them are, mind you.
