January 2, 201214 yr Just watched Horrible Bosses, it was decent and had some funny moments. Jennifer Anniston is one hell of a woman, smoking!
January 3, 201214 yr Watched the Simpsons Movie the other day and it was quite disappointing. There were some decent jokes here and there, but not nearly enough for a feature film. I'd almost go as fas as to say that you can tell that Matt Groening didn't really want to do a Simpsons movie.
January 3, 201214 yr Saw Tombstone yesterday, the one with Val Kilmer and Kurt Russell. Val Kilmer's Doc Holliday is superb, and he should have won an Oscar for it (he was not even nominated, which is a disgrace). "It's the drunk piano player. You're so drunk, you can't hit nothin'. In fact, you're probly seein' double. " Holliday (taking out a second gun): "That is why I have two guns, one for each of you." One of the best delivered lines in the long history of Westerns is that one. Edited January 3, 201214 yr by Spiller86

I also went in expecting it to be awful, so maybe that's why I liked it as much as I did.
January 3, 201214 yr I never watch the Simpsons anymore Me neither. I stopped watching about three seasons ago and I watched only a few episodes here and there during the the five(or so) seasons prior to that. I also went in expecting it to be awful, so maybe that's why I liked it as much as I did. All my mates who've seen have said that it's mediocre so I wasn't expecting much. Still it somehow managed to dissapoint.
January 3, 201214 yr Have had no power since three this morning due to a kind wind which has also removed trees, my shed roof, fence and trampoline. As a result I took kids out to avoid the cold and went to the cinema. As the kids are 8 and 5 I was somewhat restricted in my choice (or, in other words, I had none) amd ended up watching Alvin & The Chipmunks - Chipwrecked.. Now that is a film they will still be talking about in 50 years time...

Fortunately for you mate they grow up and your choices start to widen, I think the last film I saw with my daughter whose 15 was Rise of the Planet of the Apes so hang in their!
January 4, 201214 yr I could have started a new thread for this e.g. MOVIES I JUST DON'T GET but thought better of it. So.. I have tried several times to watch Forrest Gump, having been told many times by friends that they think it is brilliant. I just don't get it! Why is it brilliant? It bores me to tears! Can anyone explain what it is that makes people rave about it? I'm convinced it's an Emperor's New Clothes thing!
January 4, 201214 yr Can't explain anything other then it just has an amazing story and a message behind it, watch it again!
January 4, 201214 yr I may as well shock Andreas further (and possibly Moos as well) by saying I've just noticed there's a film on TV tonight which totally underwhelmed me - Mamma Mia!
January 4, 201214 yr Mama Mia is really bad. It's looking at a pretty girl and waiting for the next Abba song. Forest Gump is sentimental pap. I liked it the first time around but I now see how manipulative it is. It appeals to people on an emotional level. They like the story of a good-hearted simpleton stumbling through life. Most people can relate to that person, on some level. And he wins, which means they win. Everybody likes a happy ending, as it were. There''s also a novelty to the story, and the gimmick with the historical video is a nice fillip. And you can't discount Tom Hanks' personal charm and warmth in selling this nonsense. January 4, 201214 yr I was agreeing with you all the way till you mentioned Tom Hanks' personal charm!
January 4, 201214 yr ..I've just noticed there's a film on TV tonight which totally underwhelmed me - Mamma Mia! Isn't Amanda Seyfried in that? If so, it might be worth sitting through all the Abba in it!
January 4, 201214 yr OH my God! The envy that has just flashed through my body! Please let me be reincarnated looking like that! But I think I'll just watch Frost on ITV 3 - it's not the ABBA songs that put me off, it's the pathetically lame and gooey, not to mention implausible, plot. Can you imagine your own mother saying to you "Sorry, poppet, but there were actually three men I shagged within ten days of your possible conception date" ??? I had enough trouble envisaging my parents doing it twice in the whole course of their marriage!
January 4, 201214 yr I may as well shock Andreas further (and possibly Moos as well) by saying I've just noticed there's a film on TV tonight which totally underwhelmed me - Mamma Mia! What the.....how dare you.....for heavens sake......I......I.......
January 4, 201214 yr What the.....how dare you.....for heavens sake......I......I....... Sorry, old bean. I am allergic to chick flicks!

God, I feel much better now. When it first came out, I told my wife that it was the worst movie I ever saw, bar none. My wife thought I was crazy! I saw it again recently, and detested it. "It" is Forrest Gump, as I have never seen the Mamma Mia movie. Edited January 4, 201214 yr by Phillip

January 4, 201214 yr Tom Hanks' personal charm and warmth Some say "personal charm and warmth", I call it hamming it up. He really seems to have a habit of doing it. Terminal is a good example(I don't know why he needs to play the immigrant as if he was a retard) and the remake of The Ladykillers is another one(I wanted to punch the television every time he was on screen).
