This has been doing the rounds for sometime i believe.

Still who knows ? There has been such a lack of transfer activity everywhere this window it seems the hacks are clutching at straws more than ever.

This one would make sense on a few levels though. He's been pretty good this season, albeit of course in a lower league.

From The Sunday People...

CARLO ANCELOTTI NABS ADAM JOHNSON

Now Blues will loan him back to Boro

Chelsea are ready to buy England Under-21 winger Adam Johnson in a £5million deal - but let him remain at Middlesbrough until the summer.

Boss Carlo Ancelotti is close to pulling off the shock transfer coup and he will also be able to keep his clothes on as the young wide man WON'T play for the Stamford Bridge club until the summer.

The plan is for Johnson to agree to the deal, with the fee agreed and the top prospect left on loan at Boro to help them out and see plenty of first-team action.

Johnson has been on the Chelsea radar for months but now Roman Abramovich's negotiators are close to agreeing a deal.

The home-grown starlet is out of contract. in the summer. and Boro do not want to lose him for a tribunal-set fee, so owner Steve Gibson is looking for a larger sum - and Chelsea are 'virtually there' according to insiders.

Johnson had been lined up by Sunderland, but they have been squeezed out by the extra glamour at Chelsea.

Boro have also turned down approaches from Wolves, Birmingham and now Blackburn for Johnson. Sam Allardyce was given the go-ahead to buy him but did not have enough funds.

Gordon Strachan will be delighted when the deal goes through as he can keep Johnson for a play-off push and also use the money to buy players, starting with Celtic's Scott McDonald.

And Ancelotti will be delighted to keep his vow of bringing in no new faces in January - or having to streak around the Cobham training ground if he broke that promise.

Chelsea want Johnson tied up in this way because it also beats any FIFA transfer ban that comes in. They have got that punishment suspended in the window and hope to get it removed altogether.

But if they are stopped from making signings in the next window they will already have got Johnson .

The move came after Chelsea hit snags with the big names they were chasing. Bayern Munich's Franck Ribery wants more time to decide on his future, while Sergo Aguero refused to take a pay cut to come from Atletico Madrid.

I'd be happy to take a punt on him, like we did with Sturridge. If he doesn't work out, we won't lose much (if anything)

But I don't know whether he will come to Chelsea, knowing the competition he faces for starting spots.

Whether it is true or not I am glad that this is the potential direction we are going in. The only thing that makes me feel that this is not true.... we don't really seem to play wingers.

I've never seen him play. How is he?

he`s actually pretty good from what ive seen, he`s like downing only good.

Probably the same deal: purchased and then loaned back.

I'll be amazed if its still for 5 million. If thats all Boro could get someone there needs to lose their job

why's he going to city...what an idiot...bet he'll hardly play

well he`s got bellamy and petrov ahead of him at city so your probably right. i wonder if they will be accused of ruining him if it doesnt work out, same as they did with us over swp?

We're back in for him according to BBC's live transfer deadline day feed.

Hotting up. Now Chelsea have been linked with a move for Boro's Man City target Adam Johnson.

Not too sure whether he'd be a good signing. We already have two wide left players - Zhirkov and Malouda. And we dont play wingers.

Strange how these are "done deals" weeks before the window closes but then hours before the window closes its finally confirmed. The Okaka to Fulham saga was much the same.

Ah well, good signing for city, especially at 5 million. Sounds like he has alot of promise as a player

Yeh fingers crossed he can fulfil the obvious talent he has.

Looked very good last season. I'll be delighted to see it wrapped up though. Sick to death of Petrov being played on the right instead of an out of form SWP. Johnson can play both flanks. It also gives us cover for Bellers.

Would very much like this signing - but would it be worth seeing Carlo in the nude for??

PS - BBC live ticker keeping me occupied at work ::clap2::

EDIT: Doh! Just seen it was bluemoon who typed Boro have accepted the offer, should read closer next time.

Sorry Gem. ::clap2::

Delighted to be honest. I think we could and should of done more in this window to push for that 4th spot. I hope we dont regret it.

Looking at your games in hand and run in I think you have a great chance. The key will be winning against Liverpool at home I think. I'm sure most if not all Chelsea fans would rather see you finish 4th than Liverpool or Spuds

I'd love City to finish second, behind us of course.

Adam Johnson came out and said last week that if he doesn't start gettin more game time he may have to leave. Just watchin the city game vs fulham and he's on the bench again. Just wondering would us making a move for him in january be beyond the realms of possibility. He would have to kick up a fuss at eastlands and demand the move if anything was to happen.

doubt city will sell to us cos we're a rival...we really should have gone in for him earlier...we were after him but city outbid us in fee and wages in the end...really feel he's the kind of player we miss...someone who can genuinely beat a defender with skill...a lot of our play is through good passing and movement rather than individual flair
