Would Zola be Butchs replacement

Featured Replies

I would have no problem with Wilkins going and would happily have Stevie Clarke back as our number 2 but I see no reason whatsoever why we would take Franco as our number 2.

As a player he was, still is, a legend. As a member of staff his track record is on the piss side of poor. We are a title challenging football team, not a charity.

To be honest I've warmed to Wilkins and think hes an assest to Ancelotti..he speaks Italian (don't know if Zola does :good2: ) and is a very good face to the media when our team can do with it.

I don't know how much he has to do with the coaching but have seen nothing to tell me he isn't pulling his weight.

I wonder if Michael Ballack is aware of that. :good2:

Watched the Wolves - West Ham game. Wolves played a 4-5-1 formation and outnumbered West Ham in midfield. Zola and Clarke did nothing to counteract it. There was zero reaction from the West Ham bench. They were devoid of tactics and ideas. Just sheer panic. Gianfranco should resign gracefully. It's one thing to be an excellent footballer and another to be a successful manager,

We don't need Gianfranco nor Steve!

What and f**k us up like he has the spammers?

I made a pretty similar suggestion about bringing back Franco and Clarke, kind of tongue in cheek, and got a very similar reply. Unless I am bad at picking up on sarcasm ( :good2: ) I dont really think they would have any kind of effect on our team like that.

TBH, I would hate Wilkins to be pushed out in any way just because there is a more solid option available. Ive always liked and respected Butch, of course, but as a coach i loved him ever since that game against Watford last year when we stopped the Scolari-era bleeding and turned it around.

Ideal situation for me would be bringing back Zola and Clarkey and just adding to the coaching staff. Just as other assistants. I know thats unrealistic, though, as surely they wanna move on to another hotseat

I would have Zola in a minute, but as a player coach, not a manager or tactician.

As stated he has shown little to no tactical skills, but he seems to be great with the players, and undoubtedly would be a fantastic asset to have work with players 1 on 1 or in groups in technical skills and abilities.

The fact that despite doing so poor, the west ham squad has not had any major bust ups and fully supports him shows that he has some player management abilities. (IMO the single biggest flaw of Zola @ west ham is he keeps playing Mido, if he even had Kalou instead I think they'd have atleast 9 more points atm)

Plus, you think anyone is goinna try and pull "player power" on Zola!?!?!?!?!? Hell nah! hahaha

But ya, have him back and work with the players, not as a manager or even #2......thats something he would have to earn after proving himself capable....and he has not yet, by any stretch of the imagination. Thing is, it would be a big blow to any ego to go from full EPL manager to a part and parcel coach, but I think Zola loves the club and the game enough he'd seriously consider.

iI didn't mean to manage the feckn team..lol,he is out of his depth as a manger, but as a coach, teaching them to play like he did, would add vastly, his talent could be greatly appreciated, and only further the football we are playing at te moment,

Clarkey want's to manage in his own right now, I don't think he'll take another role as number two. As for Zola, I think he could have something to add in some capacity, but only if it's a role that CA thinks he needs to fill, not just because it's Zola.

On the question of butch, if you saw the Star on the Stool that he done with CA, it was obvious from that how close they've become and how much CA relies on him, not sure it's in a footballing capacity though. We don't always see the benefits different people add behind the scene so to suggest getting rid of back-room staff is very harsh.

id have steve clark back in a heartbeat. Zola we dont know how good a manager he is yet, hes got maybe 4 decent players in his starting XI, what kind of tactics can you do with that? put him in charge of a team that can compete and maybe hell excel. who knows.

I really hope Zola is given the time to finish the job he's started. He is so close to taking Wet Spam down it would be a real shame if he wasn't allowed to see the job through.

I was also impressed by the fact that Franco has a plan B up his sleeve. The paper talk a few weeks ago that he would be interested in signing Beckham during the summer shows that if he doesn't manage to take them down this season, he is going to make damn sure he does it next year.

And bankrupt them at the same time

Spot on !

agreed

Some surprisingly harsh comments about Zola. With the set backs the team has had financially, and the disarray of the club management I would have thought that being in with a chance of survival constitutes success of sorts.

I think he'd work really well as a number two, for the reasons Barry mentioned. I was always most impressed by the work he put in the summer of 2002 to get to a level to produce the magic of 02-03. Replacing aging members of the current squad will be a 2-3 year porject, and he might be the one to motivate and get the most from our aging squad.

Only a guess, mind you, as he's yet to find his feet since hanging up the boots. I'd be happy to see him on the coaching staff.

What has Wilkins done wrong?
