Do we want him back next year? If he does take a wage drop, personally I think he is really good especially since seeing him play that holding role.

I have never been a fan of Mikel especially taking into account every single Mikel tackle and Ballack has offensive power too. Plus Essien shouldn't be a holding midfielder. I think he is better with more offensive responsibility.

If he's on 50,000 a week, sign him for another year...anything near 100,000 and we can do without.

He has been very solid lately...but he's not a VITAL piece of the puzzle...and we have other options, or could get someone younger in if need be.

He still struggles if we are being strongly pressured by another team consistently.

Ballack is worth holding on to for at least another season. The guy has a great football mind. Ancelotti should consider adding him to his coaching staff when he retires.

Say what you want about Ballack, but I have to admit that he's looked good lately and has done Mikels job really well. Old perhaps, but I wouldn't mind keeping him.

I'm not the biggest fan of Ballack despite I am German, but do not underestimate his performances and value for the defence. Whenever the opponent had a counterattack, we could be sure that Ballack was on his position. Ordinary but very effective!

Not sure what is left on Ballack's contract but i think he deserves at least another year here as he's done so well since shifting into that df midfield role. Whether he's an automatic first choice remains to be seen depending on fitness of Essien and any signings we make.

I feel he is one of those players that is really only noticed when not on the pitch, aka a little something will be lacking. He just adds that bit of stability in mid that, imo is vital...I'd like to see him back.

It is sad news for him however being totally selfish it is good news for us. If we are to keep him another season then, at his age, a rest over the summer is ideal for us.

Real shame for Ballack if he is definitely out of the World Cup, as he won't get another chance.

Wish him a speedy recovery although I still hope he moves on in the Summer.
