The World Cup and the Chelsea Curse

Featured Replies

Wow, the key player for each respective teams. Amazing....and dreadful

During the club season, apart from watching Chelsea, I like to watch any league games which include Australian players, and during the world cup, apart from watching Australia play, I like to watch with great intent the games with Chelsea players...those opportunities are getting more slim.

I was especially looking forward to seeing Ballack and Essien play Australia in the group stages....but football can be a fickle game.

Hopefully Drogba's injury isn't as bad as suspected...because a third big out would be a real kick in the pants. Really unlucky to all players who miss such a rare chance with injury.

This would be massive for Drogs to miss out on, I reckon he'll be okay to play though.

well ssn says he's out of the world cup, ivory coast even said it.when the news broke on ssn the presenter said " you would'nt know if drogba is really injured with the way he goes down so easily" thats a disgrace saying that drogba has'nt been acting up all season.anyway he's not the only player in the world who does it. its a joke.

Gutted for Drogs as this is likely his last hoorah at the WC .

For Chelsea I see the silver lining....perhaps Drogs can now have his hernia problem properly dealt with so he is fresh for next season!

Would still like to see him play in the WC tho

NIGERIA midfielder John Obi Mikel has been ruled out of the World Cup due to injury.

The Chelsea midfielder underwent minor knee surgery in recent weeks and has now told his country's football bosses he is not ready to play.

Team co-ordinator Emmanuel Attah said: "We have dropped Mikel from the World Cup after he told the team he did not want to put his career at risk as his knee injury has yet to fully heal after a recent surgery.

I looked at this topic yesterday and had a right laugh now i'm abit

I think Chelsea should call Lampard, Terry and the rest and tell them to get the f*ck out of the World Cup and come back home right now!

Not sure if I should laugh or cry. It's just crazy.

What i dont get with Capello is he drops Terry for cheating, but hee puts a druggy as captain then he gets injured and then puts someone ho beats people up because they dont play the song they like

just a tad hypocritical if you ask me

Just heard about Mikel. Maybe this is part of a new super-secret strategy devised by Ancelotti to have our players extra fit for the new season.

To be honest, I'm secretly pleased that a few of our players get some well earned rest (apart from visits to the physio of course).... I know I know, i would think differently if it had been a Dutch key player

Not Chelsea but ex-Chelsea (and it's not really surprising considering his injury track record): Arjen Robben has just limped off in the Netherlands' final qualifier against Hungary. Suspected hamstring injury - apparently it will keep him out for two weeks.

Sorry Val :(
