dkw Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 Wasnt 3 out 3 in a quote from Bruce Buck a couple of weeks ago? well today we find out 3 midfielders have gone, leaving us light in that department. If we now need to replace them then will it come from within and youth or new signings? As much as we all hope for the youth of the club, i cant see us replacing all 3 of them with youth (maybe even 4 if Deco goes as expected), so this would leave us with the following midfielders at the club from last years first team squad:- Lampard, Essien, Mikel, Malouda, Kalou. now from that only 3 are can play central midfield positions, and only one is a true attacking midfielder so I would expect any signing to be in that position. The players leaving look to me like a decisive action to bring down the age level and also freshen the squad up, and i dont think it will end there with players like riccy also expected to go.

Gem Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 Dear Roman/Buck/Carlo, Please can we have at least one young player with a lot of pace to compliment Lampard in the middle. Thank you.

I wouldn't include Kalou as a midfielder. So that leaves Lamps, Mikel, Malouda and Essien. Given that Malouda can also play further forward we have ample space for 2 new midfielders. Let's assume that Matic will be one. So we need one more who can play either holding or further forward. My favourite would be Sneijder but that may be unrealistic! With Joe going we also need another wide player. Again, it is likely we will bring Kakuta through. Stoch would be another possibility. If we were looking to buy then I'm not really sure who would be good. They need to be already better than those two and in their mid to late twenties.
coco Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 The shirt numbers 7 - 9 - 10 are all available to new signings. It would be good to have 3 transfers into the club to fill those shirt numbers, along with Matic, Stoc and Kakuta.
snitrbt25 Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 (edited) We can only make one foreign signing over the age of 21 now in order to be fill the quotas. Edited June 9, 2010 by snitrbt25
Bobbywoodhogan Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 I hope the 1 of the 3 in is Ageuro, I really think we should have given Ballack another year.

It would be good to have 3 transfers into the club to fill those shirt numbers, along with Matic, Stoc and Kakuta. Matic number 4. Stoch number 7. Aguero number 9. Kakuta number 10. ;)
coco Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 We can only make one foreign signing over the age of 21 now in order to be fill the quotas, so expect another one or two to leave. Deco would hardly be a surprise...... Add Paulo Ferreira and that makes 3 places available for foregin signings over 21yo, thats plenty with the youth players we have on the fringe, so it could be 5 out and 3 in.
coco Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 Matic number 4. Stoch number 7. Aguero number 9. Kakuta number 10. ;) Kakuta is already 41 and Matic is 24, so who would be #4 and #10 ?

Feirrera going would make room for Hutchinson for sure who looks like hes gonna be a great RB.
Ruh Buh Juh Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 Kakuta is already 41 and Matic is 24, so who would be #4 and #10 ? Kakuta's 44, but I don't see why they can't change numbers? Mikel should be 4, IMO. The holding midfield role is his to lose I think.
ace Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 Hopefully Ballack (and Deco) leaving will see more of Essien playing the more advanced role, with Mikel staying back in the holding role, tired of seeing Essien wasted in that position. Regarding new midfield players, Stoch has to be ready for the first team, especially after the World Cup he's about to have. I'd rather see us give him a good deal of playing time on the right than go after someone like Srna. However, if we don't think Stoch is ready for a constant spot in the starting XI, I'm not against a versatile player like Srna, or a more attack-minded player like Milos Krasic. If we are buying someone for more of a central midfield / attacking central midfielder role, I'd say some of the names we'd be foolish not to look at are Dzagoev and Hamsik, Dzagoev would hopefully be immune from World Cup inflation since Russia is obviously sitting at home this summer.

Maksimov Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 CHELSEA SQUAD ... 4 Yaya Toure I'm not sure if it's a wise idea to sign another African central midfielder. We'd have Yaya Toure, Essien and Mikel all missing during the next African Cup of Nations and as they're changing ACN to odd years, there will be tournaments in 2012 and 2013.
Barry Bridges Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 You guys don't count Yuri as a midfielder? He was playing out of position at LB!!!!! He is a mid/winger by trade! I think we will bring in 2 profile players (a striker and a utility/defencive mid) and the rest will be brought up through youth. Well I hope anyways!
Maksimov Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 You guys don't count Yuri as a midfielder? He was playing out of position at LB!!!!! He is a mid/winger by trade! I don't think I've ever seen Yuri play anywhere but on the left(whether it's as a leftback or a winger), so he can't replace any of the three that are leaving.
g3.7 Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 while I think matic should and will get more games, I don't think there is much evidence to suggest he's ready to play as often as ballack has. given deco's expected departure I'd hope we'd go for someone like hamsik (who is I suppose halfway between deco and lamps). in joe's position we don't necessarily need to sign. we've still got anelka and kalou, plus hopefully kakuta and stoch to get involved. p.s. it seems every summer we hear the "3 in 3 out" line, but it never seems to materialise. I'd be surprised if there were no more exits.
Maksimov Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 it seems every summer we hear the "3 in 3 out" line And don't forget the marquee signing that club's going to get.
TheWestwayWonder Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 The shirt numbers 7 - 9 - 10 are all available to new signings. It would be good to have 3 transfers into the club to fill those shirt numbers, along with Matic, Stoc and Kakuta. Call me old fashioned, but I cant stand it when people wear shirt numbers that are way outside of their traditional positions. So when Boularouz or Sidwell wore #9 it did my head in. The same thing goes for other clubs, like Diarra wearing 10 in Madrid. Its just one of those things that bugs me. In the interest of making sure this never happens again... ;) 7 - that lad Stevan Jovetic 9 - El Kuuuuunnnn 10 - Mr. Sylvie van der Vaart Sorry RBJ, my numbers just have more pop than yours. And I will debut them at a star studded event at a packed Bridge in July by having them parachute in after jumping off the hotel. Top THAT Perez
PloKoon13 Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 Seeing as the #13 shirt is free, Gallas could come back... I think the #4 and #9 shirts are filled by players who are out on loan. Rajkovic is #4 and Di Santo is #9. I'm not sure about the #7 though.
evissy Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 We have Kakuta, Stoch, Matic in the squad. Hope we end up using them next season. I also think portugese exodus is in our hands. Carvalho and Deco are players we really don't have use for. I hope Boss stays cause I think he is class and will improve still. D-line: Bossy-Alex-JT-Cole(hey, you don't need the A. anymore!) backup: Ivanovic, Zhirkov, Mancienne?? Coming in(hoping): Aguero, midfielder?
Maksimov Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 Coming in(hoping): Aguero, midfielder? If we keep playing 4-3-3, where is Aguero going to play? There doesn't seem to be a place for him in that formation.
evissy Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 If we keep playing 4-3-3, where is Aguero going to play? There doesn't seem to be a place for him in that formation. You are right. There isn't a natural place in our formation as a starter but he would compete against Anelka, Kalou and perhaps Malouda for his place. As I understand he can play on wings and behind the striker. It probably don't seem very sane looking at our formation and squad but I would love us to get a player with creativity and firepower with a bright future. He would be our Robben.

Carlo's 4-3-3 is not as rigid as Jose's. Basically Anelka, Kalou etc had a lot of opportunity to roam around the opposition D area. That would suit someone like Aguero who likes to collect the ball deep and run at defenders. Somewhat like Rooney of previous years.
