Featured Replies

Don`t know about you guys but i love ending the day by sit back in my chair and enjoy proper and peaceful melody`s so i though we might aswell could make a list here over what we think is the most beautiful piece of music ever written. I`m going to kick it off with a few of my favourites of all time.

Schindlers list - Main theme

Enjoy! And it will be more to come...

Beethoven - Figlio Perduto. This was the music played as background to the final speech in "The King's Speech" I was a bit surprised that they chose a German composer to play while George VI was announcing the war to the people of Britain. But it is a beautiful piece.

Too new to do links yet, but my all time favourites are:

Watergate - Heart of Asia (Astro Heavenly Remix)

Enya - Carribean Blue

Chi Mai

And of course the theme to The Piano

Edited by Blue Vixen

The "Orange Juice Concerto" from Brassed Off is superb! Thanks for posting that, Steve.

And here's Jeff Buckley singing the Corpus Christi carol

Can't say i'm a big fan of opera, never understand what the feck their saying but "vide cor muem" by patrick cassidy does sound very soulfull to me,(sometimes hear it in films).

Just found this thread some great pieces here some of my favorites already posted in particular Pavane op.50 and Rodrigos concerto. Being a guitar nut I particularly like John Williams versions of these, talking of which

I am not sure if this counts as beautiful but certainly one of the most stunning guitar pieces of all time and I find it beautiful, there is also on youtube Sergovia being interviewed and playing the his original arrangement of this piece, if you are a guitar anorak like me well worth searching for.

Asturias - Isaac Albeniz

also arranged by John Williams for the Deer Hunter, I have always loved and played this tune

Cavatina - Stanley Myers

Just to take this in a different direction I have thought of some melodies that I particularly like in my first love roots and folk music.

I think one of the most captivating melodies of all time has to be Bulldoze Blues by Henry Thomas, it certainly has been copied a lot. I think most famously by Canned Heat for Going up the Country. anyway not too many would have heard the original I am sure, but if you can hear through the old time recording issues this is a stunning melody line played on the quills and accompanied on guitar capoed right up high, I think it is because it is played just off the beat that makes it so good.

I am going to shut up now because I could go all day... thanks for letting me indulge myself in melody this morning :-)

Beautiful piece of music from a truly great British film, with the bonus of the extremely sexy Tara Fitzgerald...

Thats the winner for me, it sounds like a track from a Tarrantino film.
