Long Live the TRUE King

Featured Replies

f**k off Kenny, there's only one King.

5 years ago today.

Let's do him justice tonight boys. Get them fired up for this JT & Frank - you know the History of our club, lets do him proud.

To Peter Osgood, the King of Stamford Bridge.

Is it 5 years already? Christ thats gone quickly. Still in our memories, The King of Stamford Bridge.

I recorded the Chelsea TV tribute to Osgood, doesn't matter how many times I watch it I still fill up towards the end of the programme. Brilliant post Gem and I completely echo your sentiments.

And from the Peter Osgood trust, the winner of the Peter Osgood poem competition written by Daniel Clarke:

For Ossie

A young boy stands among the crowd,

Fifty thousand sing aloud.

Sun sets and rises and thirty years on,

He takes his seat next to his son.

He tells him of a man he did not know,

Compares him to today’s hero,

Blessed with talent he strived for success,

Before a time of greed and excess.

The papers print a name and a face,

But his people saw an idol of passion and grace.

For many a year he served the crest,

With the pride of the lion upon his chest.

His dreams, chased often, but realised by few,

Chasing silver, draped in blue.

For all the honours his successors have known,

His legacy has been etched in stone.

He lit the path, and led the way,

Set the bar for the stars of today.

Gone he may be, but forgotten never,

For the story of The King will live forever

My biggest regret was never getting to meet him . It says a lot about how highly regarded he was both as a player and a person when i recieved a comment from a non Chelsea fan on my facebook page a while back......'Tremendous player and a real gentleman, may god bless him '

This clip brings a lump to my throat , love the man foever and i will always thank him for him being the reason i became a Chelsea fan.

Here's another one from the archives:

No apologies if any of these have been posted before, and don't expect any apologies from me or anyone else if they're posted all over again next year.

Great clip thanks for posting

A sad St David's day memory for us Welsh Chelsea fans. I actually did get to meet Ossie a couple of years before he died - bumped into him at the arrivals lounge in Heathrow late one night. He was very friendly and happily signed something for me and my kids. A true legend, fondly remembered.

That poem is brilliant and puts into words many people`s feelings about Ossie. Magnificent.

As if there wasn't enough motivation for today's game.

RIP Ossie, a class act on and off the field, and a model of what a professional footballer should be.

Long Live the King!

5 years already, time does fly. Its a shame such a great bloke died so young, he was awesome. I'm unfortunately too young to have watched him when he played but I have seen many highlights of him and this guy was pure class. RIP.

absolutely one off legend......................couple stories to example that;

Away match league cup early seventies at mancity (fink it was them)..............ossie got subbed, through a strop with sexton and refused to get on the coach - we spotted him walking around from the ground on his tod, offered him a lift but he said he was ok

Second, day before league cup final 1972, 5 a side kick about at SB car park/entrance - ossie got fouled (think it was chopper) and ossie went bonkers, through some punches and had to be held back

And last, spotted ossie leaving SB early 2001, asked for an autograph and he was top class, stood chatting for about 10mins - top bloke

And then there was his football - classy on the ball, bit spikey (ask bigjack charlton), lazy (well bit harsh maybe), but always scored in big games and never let us down

Aren't many clubs who have a KING.............but we have one
