'And the 16 year old fans claim they have been warned : " Wear blazers and shoes or don't come back. " '

Eh ?! To their local secondary school perhaps !!

Think this article was dated 1982 as Motherwell were in Division 1 in 1981/82 and promoted to the Scottish Premier League in 1981/82, with former Chelsea player Davie Hay as manager.

Nothing wrong with blazers. Back in the casual days evening wear was Aquascutum blazers, along with mock crocs. Don’t remember people gong to football like that mind.

Ah, the first greatest game from THAT season - as well as Grimsby on the last day.

I'm in that photo as a 9 year-old, Front row of the middle tier. Believe it or not, a friend of my old man actually recorded the game on his own video camera which he brought with him on the day. Christ, if I could ever get in touch with him!

Anyway, quick bit of trivia: Leeds weren't allowed to play in their usual white socks and not having brought any others, had to wear our yellow socks. (That's why all the legs look the same in the black and white shots!!)

I had a blazer when I was 17 wore it a couple of times but binned it when I saw Bomber wearing one on Auf Wiedersehen Pet.

Blimey if batesy had said that in 83/84 season our home and away support would have been down by about half, Pringle, tachini, fila, Lyle and Scott, ellesse, kappa Lacoste etc was standard uniform!!

IMO 84 was the last proper year of casual. It mutated into something else, but labels were not generally displayed come 85.

We went to Ibiza in summer 84, and there was a CFC fan from Luton we kept bumping into who was into every label going ( he had a Lacoste crocodile tattoo on his chest), and looked a bit silly.

Tachini Ted we nicknamed him.

Anyone know the player in between Bonetti and Harris? Looks like he might be reserve keeper.

Have had a look around and I think it's John Dunn. Found this picture (probably from the same photo-shoot) of him alongside Bonetti.

I'm pretty certain that photo was taken at the Mitcham Training Ground, formerly the NAAFI ground. If it was, me and my brothers could have been lurking in the background with our Kodak Brownie and autograph book.

Being down in deepest West Sussex, it hung around our way till about 86, I was in 6th form 85/86 and was still wearing Pringle lambswool jumpers then, but yes after then it declined. If I could get hold of a diamond patterned Pringle now with lion and wording on front, I would wear it, 50 next year so I'm all retro!!!

Who is the chap lower left holding the ball, he looks familiar though not a clue whether a CFC player/staff or different celebrity?

You mean Tommy Docherty ?

Yes, that's The Doc holding the ball while, from left standing: Bert Murray, Marvin Hinton, John Hollins, Ken Shellito, Peter Bonetti, John Dunn, Ron and Alan Harris and Eddie McCreadie. Squatting from left: Bobby Tambling, George Graham, Peter Houseman, Terry Venables, Dennis Brown and Barry Bridges. I can't remember what I was doing yesterday, but I can still remember this lot!
