In these depressing days, time to reflect on those where defeat against a bottom of the table club wasn't a surprise, but almost expected. Some more photos from my uncle's photos archive and a glass raised to a man who without I may not have supported our great club, he took his younger brother, my Dad. God bless you uncle Bert.

Ron Harris sticking his head in, v. Sunderland 22nd Feb 1969 in a 5-1 win. Nice view of the asbestos clad East Stand roof and the box where Tommy Doc shouted "C'mon my little diamonds," in the History of Chelsea FC video.

Another view of the East Stand, this time against Leeds with Sniffer Clarke, Mick Jones and Jackie Charlton up front for the dirty basards with Dempsey, Mulligan and Harris in defence with Bonetti on the floor on the penalty spot ! 0-0 draw, 11th December 1971.

I'll repost this one later, looks like I cropped too much, f**king lager.

Marvin Hinton v. Man City with Freddie Hill challenging and Colin Bell in the background. Photo dated 27th November 1970 but doesn't match the Chelsea history database. Cup game maybe with City at home in their away strip, it looks like the Kippax in the background?

I don't know what's happening but the images are not uploading to the full size as scanned and it's not a result of over cropping.   I'll do my best to rectify but I can't promise I'll get it right.

I'm pretty sure that's the old North Stand in the background.

Checked games for that season, and the only one where those three players all played was the league match on 10 October 1970 at the Bridge (1-1) - I was at that game! We played City five times that season, twice in the league, FA Cup 4th Rd, and the two-legged ECWC Semi-Final.

Great pic by the way!

Thanks BB, I have few pics where the dates on the back can be a couple of months apart so I'm sure you're right.  The ECWC and FAC games would have been in 1971.

They are uploading, just not displaying in the comment window. Clicking on the image gives you the original, full size uncropped image.

That's the first game I went to without an adult 18 months after being taken to my first ever game.

sorry carshalton don't no why this appears under my name but funny enough near the end of 2001 we played everton and i remember the old bill penning in there firm of about 40 bods they were trying to get to the mh stand it might be that bit of a long shot mind

Great picture. I was there with a mate who was a copper!! If I remember correctly a crash barrier in front of us collapsed as a result of a crowd surge, the metal pole was bent in the middle so it popped out of the concrete pillars it was attached to. Seeing the guy (no pun intended) in the gorilla suit being marched out still remains one of the funniest things I have seen at a football match.

Thanks for sharing it.

Bearing in mind the fact that we had no support before 2003 I can only guess that the pic shows a pitch, and Shed, invasion by the countless thousands that Barnsley brought down that day.

That person on the left, by the guy in the sheepskin, reminds me of someone, seen here on the pitch after a similar end-of-season pitch invasion v Hull in 1977:
