February 19, 201313 yr That's me alright, and here to prove your point, is a caption contest in true Luddite style with measurements given in feet and inches. Peter Bonetti 5' 10" and Bobby Tambling 5'8" meet Chris Greening7'5". What are they thinking/saying? That looks like the sports shop in Clapham I referred to in this old thread................... http://www.theshedend.com/topic/17739-short-story-v1/
February 20, 201313 yr Hi All, Massive Long shot i know but can anyone help me out with a large sized shot of bates' book cover without the writing? I'm sure it's the Barnsley and i can only find a wide angle shot where if i zoom in it gets pixelated. Cheers! http://www.collectsoccer.com/acatalog/ChelseaMyYear1984KenBates-book-L.jpg Edited February 20, 201313 yr by KensMonkhouse

February 21, 201313 yr Bobby Charlton's last game for Man U is an example of how memory plays tricks if ever there was one. I was there; I remember the Shed singing "one Bobby Charlton" and all the rest of it but whenever I think back to the game, my not exactly perfect memory insists on telling me the match ended in a 1-1 draw. So here, from 28th April 1973 is a picture of Ossie as the ball nestles in the back of the net after he scored the goal that turned out to be the winner in the 1-0 victory over Man U,

Bobby Charlton's name was constanly sang by the shed, but I cant remember him waving to the crowd
February 21, 201313 yr Interesting read, but I certainly can't remember anyone singing about "a mutilated body of a scouse git" Wasn't it... In the dark back streets of Liverpool Where the Mile End's never been Lies the chewed up body of a scouse git Where the North Stand kicked him in To hell with Liverpool, to hell with Man.City We'll fight fight fight for the Chelsea Till we win the football league ...? That's how I remember it anyway.

February 22, 201313 yr Funny how the words to some songs have changed over the years, most of them in the cutting are exactly or pretty close as I remember singing them. I was starting to think that all these years later that there was me alone singing Spastics and everyone else Scousers. Edited February 22, 201313 yr by Peckham Blue
February 23, 201313 yr Author Regards the song clipping, its from New Society a weekly magazine, published throughout the ‘60s. It thought of itself as a source of social inquiry and social and cultural comment. An interesting read although some of the lyrics are misquoted...
February 23, 201313 yr ......and i always thought it was ..." bring on SCOUSERS by the score" It is .
February 23, 201313 yr I remember being in the Bristol Rovers end, but I don't remember any Chelsea having Bristol Rovers scarves, but there might well have been later, or maybe a different game. We got into their end well before kickoff, and were asked by the old bill where we were from. "Bath" I replied, trying to do what I thought was a suitable accent. "Come on", said the copper, who then escorted me and most of the rest of the early "invaders" up to the Chelsea end. Edited February 23, 201313 yr by Tommy Docherty
February 23, 201313 yr It is . It was always 'spastics' in the old days, seems to have changed now though. As for the Chelsea fans in rival colours, I was probably at that game (memory again, doh!), Chelsea and Bristol Rovers both play in blue and white, so I don't understand that one.

Yes it was back in the 70's

February 24, 201313 yr Was Bristol Rovers the tote end with a dog track around it? God now you're asking. I had to look it up, but yes you're right. To this day I get confused over which Bristol team is which. There was a time we seemed to be playing one or other of them every other week. Remember that series of FA Cup replays?
February 24, 201313 yr I've just added this to the Rangers/Chelsea connection thread, but it could equally well go here, including as it does references to not one but two 1954 Rangers v Chelsea pre-season friendlies, and also to Roy Bentley (described as the Hammer of the Scots!) playing for England against Scotland:
