I got nicked for drunk and disorderly at this game, got fined a tenner!

Not one to get involved by any stretch of the imagination, went more for a laugh than anything, but of course trouble found you on occasions. I remember having to get proper stuck in on the South Bank at West Ham in 81 and fighting our way out of the New Derby at Sunderland.

I'm from Wembley and used to drink in The Preston with loads of Chelsea, some proper Gooners and a few y*ds. Used to drink in The Adelaide before games and went home from 1963 onwards (with my Dad) and then with my mates from 78 home and away. I was a reasonable player and used to play most Saturdays until 78, though went to all the games I could, including the pitch invasion at Luton in 74?

Have a good memory and loads of stories but more to do with a good day out than major fighting.

Good days long gone W55.we used to run buses and coaches from harrow and probably knew some of the Preston boys. When we won at grimsby in 84 our coach went in to Donny for the evening and Sunderland were on their way back from Leicester (i think!)and were in the saloon whilst we were in the lounge.Banter turned to insults and then a dustbin came thru the window and we charged outside and run em off.we then went further in to town and came back later to find our coach with no windows thanks to some Leeds according to OB.we had to wait for a replacement coach to come from London and got back about 9am.I'm sure we dropped some lads of at the Century and the Preston after. The Arse that used to go in there were the same firm from the surrey arms in kingsbury and i still see some of them occasionally.

I lived right by the Century, about 200 yards away. The Arsenal lads from the Preston were Steve A, who got stabbed at Luton one year, Bill A, Steve C and Aiden. Pleased to know they are still about, some of the Chelsea lads drank in the Surrey Arms with them, right little firm when they were together.

That Grimsby game my third daughter was due that day and I decided not to go, but I was pacing around the house all morning and the missus told me to go to Grimsby if there was time. Phoned my brother, picked him up and made it just in time, great day. Went there a couple of times, seem to recall Chelsea in their end the first time I went and some poor sod took a proper right hander that knocked him down the terrace, our end all winced at the same time.

Bolton away 1982

Remember the walk before the game at Bolton. On the train two guys were sharing a huge splif, ending with each of them losing a shoe!! During the escort they took odd shoes off a display on the pavement to wear to the game!! I wondered as a 14 year old on my first away trip up north if this was the norm!! I was soon to learn that this was fun and chaos every away game!

Right hand edge about half way down, guy in a dark jacket facing the skirmish, with long dark sideburns. Possibility of it being D.H.? (or sideburns not long enough!).

Good call, def a possibility.

It's funny seeing pictures of the 70's in black and white if only because I remember it all in colour.

One day I may even see a picture of me. That would be a special day.

I CAME ACROSS THESE PHOTOS AND IT REMINDED ME WHEN I WAS A LITTLE KID I USED TO GO DOWN TO MITCHAM AND WATCH THE PLAYERS TRAINING BUT I DONT REMEMBER HOW OLD I WAS AT THE TIME.

DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT YEARS THEY WERE AT MITCHAM?

Apparently the club sold Mitcham in the 70s then palace started training at Mitcham. I know your pics are from the 80s. I read that on thechels.info I'm not sure how accurate it is. Great pics again col.

We left Mitcham in 76 after the first bankruptcy. Those pics are probably taken at the Met Police sports ground at Imber Court where we trained before switching to Harlington.
