I was in The Shed that day which was also fairly full. This would indicate an "actual" crowd of circa 25 - 28,000?? Without looking it up I would guess the "reported" crowd was around 17,000. Got to love Uncle Ken! Official crowd was 18,251.😀

Remember Easter 1984 v Fulham, all the papers before game said crowd expected over 40k, we dropped my little sister off at my Grandparents before driving up with my parents to bridge, my Grandad came out and said huge crowd today son, got in bridge and Shed absolutely rammed, and North terrace apart a little segregation, no spare seats in East and West stand, official crowd 34k, where the 10k empty spaces were I will never know, crowd just laughed when attendance flashed up on scoreboard

Plus it was cash on the terrace turnstiles so I’m sure the operator’s had a touch!! My old man went to the 1968 Fais Cup Tie between Greenock Morton and ourselves at Cappielow Park in Sept 1968. The ground was packed full, yet the official attendance was given as 8,000! The Cappielow capacity was either 21,000 or 22,000 back then. My old man always reckoned they ‘forgot to add 10,000’.😀 Ive also seen this attendance given as 10,000 and 11,000. Many attendances back then were often simply a guess! I know a couple of lads who did that at Hillsborough in 1976 for the semi-final. You could easily tell the attendance was over capacity. One of the perks of the job I suppose. Bad luck though if a copper happened to be standing there as you'd get ejected and lose your money.
