Fascinating Kalou scouting blog post from 2006

Didn't take long did it..what are we, just one game in to a new season.

Don't you know that the first game sets the tone?

0-0.

We're f*cked. Won't win anything.

Kalou, Malouda and the rest are s*ite and should be kicked out. Let's replace our entire team in january.

Oh, and Boas will of course have to be sacked as soon as possible. Maybe we get Hiddink in january as well until next summer when we might get a real manager like Rafa.

To be fair though Kalou just isn't good enough. I've supported him more than most but yesterday proved beyond doubt that he's not up to it.

Not as a starter, but coming off the bench he does cause a lot of trouble for the opposition. And for that I would still keep him in the squad, just not the first 11.

Kuyt was an excellent purchase, up and coming less than attractive talent could see that they wouldn't get discriminated against at Liverpool...

Now they've got easily the ugliest bunch of young players in the league, although significantly less talented that the Dutchman.

Kalou will never win over the Chelsea fans. Just how it goes. Until he leaves i don't think people will appreciate the squad role he plays.

A lot of the support on here really does make me wonder. As much stick as Ferreira, Mikel, Essien, Drogba, Malouda, Anelka etc get on here, Torres didn't even have to kick a ball for the club before everybody was in love with him wanting to build the club solely around him. I've noticed the 'he didn't pass to Torres, off with his head!' brigade are in full force.

There is no back up player that will offer 10-15 goals every season playing on the right wing. That's just the reality. Instead of moaning every other game (and during the whole summer) about how crap Kalou is, how about cheering for him? Think it might help his confidence a bit knowing the fans don't want to cut his jugular anytime he misses the target?

Kalou could dribble past 5 players and stick it in the bottom corner and the response on here would be 'f-ck, suppose that means he'll start the next game'

I'm not even too fond of him myself, the username is as a result of peoples poor attitude towards a CHELSEA player

I agree about the whole super sub idea, I think he's best used when his trickery can get past tired legs, although with Sturridge suspended it was only really a choice between Anelka and Kalou, and Anelka drops into the space that Torres was using on Sunday.

Kalou gets way too much flak in my opinion. He might not be Drogba MKII, but he's a very valuable squad player.

I disagree he does not get enough flak in my opnion. He has No left foot, No Vision, No football brain, No trick, No balance and no ars$hole . Can you imagine Alex Fergurson putting up with a player with Kalou's abilty for 5 years; I dont think so. I think we will all see how actually bad he is when he leaves Chelsea and plays with a lesser team. I dont want to be negative but when you get the highest levels of football its is small details and clever footballers that make the difference. I also dont subscribe to this theory of a squad player who comes off the bench, If we want to be up there challenging for the PL and CL you need to players up front that can come into high pressure games and effect games and score goals when has Kalou ever done this.

Bloody 'ell, didn't expect the Spanish Inquisition :sofa:

Considering the treatment Berbatov gets from Ferguson, I'm sure you're right that Kalou probably wouldn't be his number one choice. I'll give you that he can be an immensely frustrating player, however.. he has had decent games, and especially when he comes on as a sub against tired feet. If it was the choice between having him or Aguero/Silva/any other world class player in the starting line-up, we would make the same choice, but as a sub...

Had a pretty decent assist for Drogba vs Juventus:

and a pretty decent finish to equalize vs Tottenham:

Point taken but the fact are you have had to delve into the archives over four years ago for a a FA cup 1/4 goal and through ball in home Champ Lge game says everything about his Chelsea career. For every through ball ill give you 50 misplaced passes or 10 complete sitters missed

He's a permanent sub player, that's about it. The problem is managers keep picking him in the starting 11 because his potential, and the fans endedup blaming him when the result didn't got our way.

Dead on. And while that scouting report has some things accurate, Kuyt's goals per game ratio is almost exactly the same. They both score about once every four appearances, and I am willing to bet Kuyt has played far more minutes than Sala.

As long as we arent leaning on him to be a starter, I am okay with it. Frustrating, yes, but once Danny gets back I think he is going back on the bench.

Little bit late to change the premise for the killer goal/amazing assist now, isn't it? :247:

Out of curiosity, what player could you realistically see replacing him (on same wages and happy to be on the bench most of the time, but sans missed sitters, footballing brain, etc etc).

icecoolguy22 sums it up pretty well for me.

AVB picked him in front of Anelka who has been golden boot winner and probably has as much foot speed. Every manager including Mourhino (from memory) has picked him at one time or another. And yet the fans here no better than all the managers. Everyone can see Kalou's faults. However he puts in shift after shift never complains that I am aware of, seems to try all game, and consistently shows ability to move the ball forward.

Yes I'd like more, but I think he's a true chelsea player.

The problem that I have is that he still starts games for Chelsea. I wouldnt mind him as a sub to come on and inject some pace but he really is not a starting caliber player in any way.

Its kinda embaressing that we still have to rely on Kalou as a starter if I think about it...
